Chapter 91 Magic Teaching

After the literacy and arithmetic lessons were on track, Rudeus began teaching Kyrie and Alice magic.

This is what Gilead wanted to learn, but Rudius also dragged Iris into it.

According to Kyrie Illya's requirements, learning the most basic water and fire magic is sufficient.

Her survival did not depend on the force provided by magic, but rather on using magic to secure water and fire.

Anyone with even a basic understanding of wilderness survival will know how important these things are.

For ordinary humans, whether or not these two resources can be guaranteed is the difference between life and death.

These are the two most important miscellaneous tasks that adventurers need to handle.

Kyrie Ion was practically superhuman to survive for so long without knowing any of this.

The teaching process is not as easy as one might imagine.

After Rudeus taught the two the spell, they tried several times but were unable to release the water sphere.

What's going on?

What happened?

Hilfi released the water sphere very easily.

It can't be a problem with magic.

All matter in this world contains magic, and the two characters in the original work successfully used magic.

Perhaps through long-term, continuous practice, they will gradually find their footing—but what exactly is missing now?

It's probably a problem with the brain.

Alice's words might be mechanical recitation of incantations, and her actions cannot be understood as casting magic in essence.

But Gilead must have known exactly what he was doing.

By the way, does she know?

Rudius's mind went blank—it was impossible for him to know, since I hadn't mentioned it.

Casting magic is a lot like learning martial arts. Rudeus struck a pose and had them imitate it.

Yet it's very unlike martial arts, because martial arts can break down movements and then freeze them, allowing the teacher to manually adjust the student's movements and actually tell him where the problem lies.

Magical movements, in essence, should be the flow of energy within the body.

How can I teach this step by step?

Logically speaking, chanting spells should cause magic to gather and be released spontaneously.

Why did it fail?

Unlike the internal energy of martial arts masters, which requires a master to help a novice find their meridians when practicing, it is not like the internal energy of a martial arts master.

Meridians?

Rudeus slapped his forehead—recalling that he had never demonstrated the process of casting a spell before.

In that case, even if magic appears in their arms and flows within them, they probably wouldn't know what it is.

It's highly likely that neither Alice nor Kyrie Irvine had a successful "anchor point" in their minds.

It's another magic class.

Rudius stood in the classroom, facing Kyrie II and Alice.

Unlike the previous two times when he simply stretched out his hand and conjured a water ball, this time Rudeus solemnly extended his right hand, releasing magic like a beginner.

"Watch closely, I'm going to release myself first."

Having said that, Rudeus turned to the side and chanted: "May the great protection of waters descend upon the place you seek, and may cool, shallow streams appear here."

Rudeus temporarily stopped sensing magic power and, with the mindset of a beginner, experienced the feeling of magic power flowing with the incantation.

Rudeus felt a sense of nostalgia, as if he had released a water sphere for the first time as a child, after a long time since he had done so seriously.

That was only a few years ago.

A translucent water sphere condensed in his hand. Rudius withdrew his hand and asked the two, "Did you see that clearly? Should I demonstrate it again from the side?"

"I can see it very clearly already!" Alice said impatiently.

Kyrie Irvine nodded with a somewhat puzzled expression.

"Alright, let's chant together this time and then cast the Water Ball spell."

After saying that, Rudius walked between the two men, and the three of them reached out their hands together.

"I'll count, three, two, one, and then we'll chant together, understand?" Rudeus turned to look at the two of them.

"it is good."

"Hurry up!"

"Three, two, one."

The three sang together: "May the protection of the great waters descend upon the place you seek, and may the cool, shallow streams appear here."

A water sphere reappeared in Rudius's hand.

Looking around, there was still no movement in Gilead's and Alice's hands.

Hey—it certainly won't be that easy to succeed.

Rudeus casually tossed the water sphere aside. Because he had been paying close attention, he felt the magical pathways in his arm become more concrete.

As Rudeus tried to grasp "it," he said, "Alright, feel the flow of magic in your arm, let's try again!"

"Yes!" Kyrie Irvine replied.

Alice looked up at Gilead, curled her lip, and said nothing more.

"Three, two, one."

The countdown has ended.

""

The three of them completed another practice session.

Seeing that their hands were empty, Rudius threw the water balloon away again.

He was thinking about the spellcasting process in his mind.

If spells and magic were standardized, they would be magic that everyone could easily learn.

If the generated water spheres are exactly the same, does that mean that the magical power flowing through the arm, the magical path, and the magical speed should all be the same?

"Okay, one more time," Rudius said again after a slight pause, "three, two, one."

This time, Rudius did not chant; only Iris and Kyrie Irvine made their voices.

He used a synchronous, chant-free simulation of the spellcasting process.

When they sang the word "water," Rudius, multitasking, prompted, "Pay attention to the position of the upper arms!"

"Don't worry about me, keep chanting."

"Alright~, now the magic has reached the forearm."

"Concentrate, the magic is now in your hands, good~, push it out."

Rudius caught a glimpse of Kyrie Irvine as he successfully conjured a water sphere in Kyrie's hand.

"Oh!" Rudius exclaimed, "Gileado, you've done it!"

Kyrie Irvine stared wide-eyed at the water balloon in his hand in disbelief.

The outstretched hand froze in place, as if the slightest movement would cause the water sphere to disappear.

After peering through his fingers for a while, he replied, "Mm."

"What!" Alice's eyes widened as well, but the upturned corners of her eyes clearly didn't mean "I'm happy."

"Why don't I have a water balloon!" she protested, gesturing with her hand in front of Rudeus.

"Miss Alice, you'll get it after a few more tries," Rudeus explained.

"Hmm—" Alice uttered a muffled sound as she suppressed her anger.

Seeing her expression, Rudius clapped his hands and said, "Alright, Kyrie Irvine, remember that feeling, let's do it a few more times."

"Yes!" Kyrie Irvine replied.

Judging from her wagging tail, she seemed to be in a very good mood.

"Okay, then, three, two, one."

After several more training sessions, Kyrie Irvine successfully condensed two water spheres once again.

But Alice still didn't make any progress.

Judging from her demeanor, Rudius did not believe that she was chanting mechanically.

After all, she wouldn't be in such a hurry if she didn't want to use magic.

"Alice, can you sense the magic?" Rudeus asked.

"What magic?! I don't know what you're talking about!" Alice said to Rudeus, arms crossed.

Hmm... this isn't good.

Alice is now very resistant, so we can't use the same method anymore.

Rudius scratched his chin.

Something went wrong.

Is magic too abstract a concept?

For Kyrie Il, she has a magical eye, and can see magic.

Perhaps their understanding of the underlying principles is fundamentally different from Alice's?

How do you explain that?

"Miss Alice," Rudeus called out as he approached Alice.

"What?" Alice asked, raising her chin.

"Could you please extend your arms?"

"don't want!"

"Let's stop practicing magic. How about I help you find magic power?"

"What do you mean?"

"That's it." With that, Rudeus reached out and grabbed Alice's arm, straightening it before pressing his fingers against her upper arm. "When you chanted 'water,' did you feel anything strange in this area?"

"Strange?" Alice asked, frowning.

"Yes, right here, right here." Rudeus's fingers traced along Alice's arm, following the flow of magic he sensed, from her upper arm to her forearm. "Do you feel anything different?"

"It is a little different," Alice replied, looking curiously at her arm.

"Yes, that's magic," Rudeus affirmed. "Lady Alice has found magic, and she might be able to release it successfully soon."

Is that so?

"That's right! Come on, let's try again. I'll start for you, may the great water—" As he spoke, Rudeus's hand, following the speed at which magic flowed as he remembered, once again swept across Alice's arm.

After Alice finished chanting, she looked at her empty hands and then at Rudeus.

Before he could react, Rudeus interrupted, "How is it? Can you feel the magic?"

"It seems... a little clearer than before." Looking at Rudeus's smiling face, Alice ultimately didn't say anything more.

"Alright, this time I'll cast the spell with you. Come on, get ready, three, two, one, may the great blessing of water descend upon the place you seek, and the cool stream flows here—" Rudeus's voice grew softer and softer until only Alice was chanting.

"Push the magic in your hand out~".

Alice gritted her teeth, her arms tense, but no water ball appeared in her hand. Turning her head, she saw that Rudius also had no water ball in his hand.

That's impossible. How could Rudius fail?

Alice looked at his face again, still smiling.

"Let's do it again," Rudius said.
