Chapter 75 Awkwardness

Li De paused for a moment, then, without making excuses or denying, said frankly and honestly, "She wasn't wearing perfume; it was her natural scent."

"You wouldn't even bother to lie to me."

The red-haired beauty who had been nestled in his arms suddenly raised her eyes slowly. Her cool and aloof brows held a hint of reproach, and her tone was low and melancholic, making it impossible to tell whether she was truly annoyed or just testing him.

"Actually, I didn't smell any perfume; I was just kidding you."

Li De was speechless.

At this point, saying anything more would only make things worse. Since Elena didn't raise her hand to slap him, it was obvious that she wasn't really angry.

Thinking of this, he said no more and leaned down to kiss her.

Elena wrapped her arms around his neck and responded passionately, pouring all the longing and yearning she had felt over the past few days into this kiss.

The two embraced and walked into the house. The door closed, shutting out all the noise from the outside world.

Elena had long forgotten about her afternoon classes.

Normally, even if she was sick with a fever, she would never miss a class. The rigor of medicine was ingrained in her bones. But at this moment, no class could compare to the person in front of her.

The noise inside the house lasted for quite some time, but fortunately, the solid oak door provided excellent sound insulation, locking all the sounds inside.

The tender atmosphere inside the room was broken by a series of urgent knocks on the door.

"Elena, are you home?"

Standing outside the door was Heri, the art instructor at Bullburg College and one of Elena's few true friends.

She was filled with anxiety and paced back and forth at the door.

Elena's personality was all too clear to her; she was strict to the point of being rigid in her studies and always arrived early to wait for her students, never being late.

But today, he was unusually late, more than half an hour late, and didn't even leave a message.

Moreover, Elena's behavior has been very strange lately.

She often sits there lost in thought, her eyes filled with worries; she used to be someone who didn't even want to touch weapons, but lately she often stares blankly at a long sword, and her mood has become quite depressed. She was worried about her, so she came to check on her.

The room instantly descended into chaos.

Elena's cheeks flushed as she struggled to push Li De away, but he held her too tightly, and coupled with the earlier ordeal, she was sore and weak that she couldn't break free at all.

She had no choice but to suppress her still-breathing breaths, try to keep her tone steady, and raise her voice to respond towards the door.

"I'm here, Holly. I have something to do for now, so I won't be going out. You can go shopping by yourself."

As soon as she finished speaking, she immediately leaned close to Li De's ear and whispered with a hint of embarrassment and annoyance, "Don't move around. I'll get Heli away first."

"shop?"

Holly, standing outside the door, frowned even more deeply, her tone becoming more urgent: "What shopping? You clearly scheduled two classes this afternoon, one for medical theory and one for practical teaching. Have you forgotten?"

Elena had never told such a lie before, and she panicked immediately, only able to make up some excuses, her voice broken and intermittent.

"I'm not feeling well, please help me ask for a day off."

Helly pressed her ear against the heavy oak door, and the more she listened, the more uneasy she felt.

The worry in my heart instantly turned into unease, fearing that my best friend had encountered a bad person in the house, or that something else had happened to her.

She quickly raised her hand to knock on the door again, this time with more force.

"Elena, open the door and let me see you."

A few seconds later, the door slowly opened a crack.

Elena's pretty face peeked out from the crack, her hair slightly disheveled, her face flushed, her breathing rapid, and her forehead covered in a thin layer of sweat.

"What are you doing? Why are you so out of breath and sweating so much?"

"I was working out, I just finished exercising."

Elena forced herself to lie, her eyes darting around nervously.

"Training?"

Holly looked on with suspicion, her gaze fixed on Holly's flushed cheeks.

"Then why is your face so red?"

"I—I had a little to drink."

Elena hurriedly tried to cover up her mistake, but as soon as she finished speaking, she wished she could bite off her own tongue. Her words were incoherent and she couldn't even convince herself.

"Is he feeling unwell, exercising, or has he been drinking?"

Her best friend's behavior was so abnormal that she didn't bother with formalities and reached out to push the door open, saying, "Let me in and see."

"No, no, no!"

Elena hurriedly tried to block the door, but after all the commotion, she was sore and weak and had no strength left. She was no match for the aggressive Heri.

With a loud crash, Hery burst into the house, pulling Elena behind her with her left hand and drawing a dagger from her waist with her right, peering warily into the house.

However, the scene before her eyes froze her in place, and she almost dropped the dagger in her hand.

From the entrance to the living room, longswords, armor, and undergarments were scattered along the way.

There were still some clear water droplets scattered on the dining table.

A man with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and well-defined muscles is shirtless and bending down to pick up his clothes.

It was none other than Li De, the Witcher who had previously risen to fame in Cowburg.

She had seen the other person several times and even secretly drew a picture of him, hiding it in a compartment of the bookshelf, so she would never mistake him for someone else.

Li De froze, his action of picking up clothes stopped in mid-air, his mouth twitched repeatedly, and he was so embarrassed that his toes curled up. He wished he could dig out a fully furnished three-bedroom apartment with a basement from the ground.

But he was a seasoned veteran who had seen it all, so he forced a smile, raised his hand, and greeted Holly at the door.

"Uh... hi."

The air suddenly became quiet, so quiet that the three of them could hear each other breathing.

Hurley teaches painting and has a natural ability to remember everything she sees. She can memorize all the features of a person in a few breaths and draw them accurately in a turn of her head, not even missing the location of a mole.

Previously, this ability was something she was very proud of, but now, she would rather not have it.

To be fair, the Witcher in front of me was indeed handsome, with his half-hidden, half-revealed muscle lines that made my mouth water.

If she could, she would love to invite the other person for a primal exchange and paint a masterpiece while looking in the mirror.

But—my best friend is right here watching—

She swallowed hard, chuckled dryly, and slowly turned her head, meeting Elena's murderous gaze.

"What did you see?"

Elena smiled, her voice soft and gentle, like a gentle breeze.

Holly screamed inwardly, she had seen everything!

Scattered clothes, water stains on the table, a bare-chested witcher, and Elena's wrinkled dress—every single one of these was enough for her to conjure up the whole scene in her mind!

But would she dare to say it? She wouldn't!

If I told you, the skeletons that the medical apprentices would use for practice tomorrow would be hers, Holly's!

She shook her head frantically, waved her hands wildly, forced a smile that looked more like a grimace, and spoke at a machine-gun-like pace, as if afraid of being silenced if she hesitated for even a second.

"I didn't see anything! Nothing at all! I was just passing by and went to the wrong door! You can continue, continue! I'll leave right away and disappear immediately!"

After saying that, Holly turned around and ran outside without looking back, closing the door behind her.
