At that moment, both of them experienced an illusion of prolonged silence.

For a fleeting second, the corridor was so quiet it was as if all sound had been sucked away; even their breathing became exceptionally clear. Jasmine stared at Xue Ci, and Xue Ci stared back at Jasmine; neither of them spoke first.

A second later, bursts of laughter echoed down the corridor.

"Hahahaha—are you sick in the head?!" Jasmine laughed so hard she almost cried.

"You're the one who's sick! Can't you let people finish speaking first!" Xue Ci glared at her speechlessly.

Jasmine rolled her eyes at the man opposite her and said irritably, "Let's be frank. I've had someone investigate you. You don't need to pretend in front of me."

Xue Ci froze, a bewildered expression on her face, and uttered a single word: "?".

"I know you're not normal, but it's okay, I understand." Jasmine's smile faded, and she became serious. "It just so happens that I don't want to get married, but if I don't, my parents will restrict my freedom."

She paused, as if organizing her thoughts, then continued, "A marriage between our two families can achieve a win-win business partnership, and it's also a win-win situation for both of us. Don't worry, I absolutely won't tell anyone, and you shouldn't tell anyone about our arranged marriage either."

She rambled on and on, and Xue Ci just wanted to shut her up. He frowned, looking impatient.

"Are you done talking?" Xue Ci's voice was cold.

"Of course not, but I can shut up if you agree." Jasmine blinked.

"I agree," Xue Ci said without hesitation.

"I knew it... you agreed?!" Jasmine was stunned and her mouth dropped open.

Xue Ci raised an eyebrow at her: "Isn't this the result you wanted?"

"But...but why aren't you following the procedure at all? If you follow the order, you'll have to struggle for a while, and then I'll persuade you." Jasmine was completely dumbfounded. She just wanted to give it a try and didn't have any hope.

"I knew it! But it's okay, I don't discriminate against you. True love is priceless! Keep it up! I'll be back in Hong Kong waiting for your good news!" Jasmine said, turning to leave.

She lifted her foot to leave, but Xue Ci stopped her, saying, "You haven't agreed to my request yet."

"Oh, you mean photos? Is this alright?" Before Jasmine could finish speaking, she threw the camera into the lake outside the window, catching Xue Ci completely off guard.

She was very strong; she threw the camera a long way, making an arc in the air before it landed in the water with a "plop," splashing up a spray of water.

She spread her hands, looking innocent: "I know you don't trust me. You've wasted my camera and so many photos. Remember to send me the best one!"

"Okay, but you won't talk nonsense, will you?" Xue Ci stared at her, still somewhat uneasy in his eyes.

Jasmine lost her patience: "You... never mind. Yu Lian is my best friend, that's true, but I also have my own interests to consider. Don't worry, although I may be unreliable at times, I still value integrity."

Xue Ci didn't press the matter further, waving his hand and saying, "It's settled then, so don't talk nonsense. We're completely innocent; those people were ordered by our partners."

"I know, I know! Go back now, don't disturb my and my friend's enjoyment." Jasmine gave him a push.

The two returned to their respective rooms. Jasmine carefully took the roll of plastic from her sleeve, put it in her handbag, patted the bag, and muttered to herself, "You're still too green to fight your grandma!"

……

A week later.

Jasmine stood at the cinema entrance, waving to Yu Lian who was hurrying towards her from afar. She was wearing a floral dress, her hair was loose, and she seemed to be in a good mood.

"Why are you in such a hurry to find me? What's wrong?" Yu Lian walked over, looking puzzled.

Yu Lian, who was leisurely leaving get off work, received an urgent call from Jasmine. Jasmine didn't say much on the phone before hanging up, only telling her to come find her. Yu Lian thought something had happened to Jasmine and worried about her the whole way.

As soon as she got out of the car, she realized something was wrong—she was perfectly fine, with a smile playing on her lips, a smile that seemed to have malicious intent.

"Hurry up and tell me, or I'm leaving." Yu Lian pretended to turn around and leave.

Yu Lian knew exactly what kind of person her friend was, and naturally guessed that she was lying to her. Jasmine was always acting on a whim, making people both angry and amused.

Jasmine quickly stepped forward and grabbed her hand, pleading, "Oh, I just wanted to watch a movie. You're so busy with work and never spend time with me, that's why I used this trick, wasn't it?"

Yu Lian was helplessly pulled into the movie theater by her. The movie theater was dimly lit, and the red carpet on the floor felt soft underfoot.

After buying their tickets, the two entered the screening room.

"Did we come in too early? Why is there no one here?" Yu Lian looked around and found the entire screening room empty.

Jasmine ate what she was eating, waved casually, and kept her eyes on the screen: "It's a weekday, and it's afternoon. Where are all these people going to watch a movie? Never mind, it's about to start."

"Are you changing the subject?" Yu Lian turned her head to look at her.

Jasmine paused, her hand holding the drink still. She then fixed her gaze on the woman's face, feigning indifference, and said, "Such a beautiful face, why speak so coldly? What made you think I was distracted?"

Yu Lian just glanced at her twice without saying a word, then looked at the screen. She knew Jasmine too well; the more talkative this person was, the more likely they were hiding something.

The movie started soon. But apart from them, there was no one else there. Yu Lian had only just thought that Jasmine had booked the whole theater when someone appeared at the door.

"Someone's coming," Yu Lian whispered to Jasmine beside her.

Jasmine ignored her and continued staring at the screen until the person who came in sat down next to her.

"Li Yanshen?" Yu Lian was somewhat surprised.

Jasmine's lips twitched, and she finally couldn't help but ask, "Wait, the visibility in the movie theater is so poor, how did you recognize him so quickly?"

Yu Lian didn't know why, but she recognized him without even looking at his face. It was an indescribable feeling, like a kind of intuition.

"Maybe it's because we've known each other for a long time," Yu Lian said casually.

Jasmine didn't believe that, and pursed her lips without saying a word.

"Why are you here? Aren't you busy filming?" Yu Lian turned to ask Li Yanshen.

Li Yanshen lowered his voice, afraid of disturbing others: "Busy, but I'll be on vacation for the next two weeks."

"That's great. I've heard that your job is very demanding, so you should take care of your health."

Yu Lian already knew that Li Yanshen had reunited with his family, and that his sister had resigned from her job. This was because they couldn't ignore the law, even though they were on the side of justice.

Now the older sister is quietly taking care of her younger brother on set.

"How is Auntie's health? If you feel unwell, just come to the research institute," Yu Lian added.

"Well, I won't stand on ceremony with you," Li Yanshen smiled.

Jasmine remained silent throughout. Although her eyes were fixed straight ahead, she would occasionally glance at the person beside her. Her gaze shifted back and forth between the two, as if she were observing something.

For the next hour or so, she didn't say a single word.

Her eyes were glued to the screen, but her mind was completely absorbed in the conversation between the two people next to her. She had no idea what was going on in the movie; her mind was a jumble of random thoughts.

Even though Li Yanshen and Yu Lian didn't say anything particularly meaningful, they chatted casually, like old friends who had known each other for many years.

Even though they were saying some boring things, you could tell from the atmosphere of their conversation that they trusted each other a lot.

That kind of tacit understanding can't be cultivated in a day or two; it's accumulated little by little over time.

After the movie, Yu Lian said she wanted to go home. It was already completely dark outside, with the streetlights casting a dim yellow light.

After asking where Li Yanshen lived, and finding that it was on the way, they gave him a ride. The three of them got into the car; Yu Lian sat in the driver's seat, Li Yanshen in the passenger seat, and Jasmine sat alone in the back.

Jasmine insisted on going home with Yu Lian for the night, refusing to go back by herself no matter what.

Unsure of what Jasmine was thinking, Yu Lian still agreed to bring her along. After all, only by creating an opportunity for the two of them to be alone could she find out Jasmine's purpose.

The car started and slowly drove out of the parking lot, disappearing into the night.
