During the first month after He Lin left, life went on as usual, and Yu Lian and her child were not affected.
In the second month after He Lin left, Yu Lian received a letter and a gift from him. The letter inquired about their well-being, shared updates on his life and the progress of establishing the overseas branch. Finally, he wrote a separate message for Yu Lian—saying he loved her.
Upon seeing those two words, Yu Lian felt a mix of emotions and didn't know what to think. She had been writing a letter at her desk, but as she wrote, she felt like she was just rambling on, so she simply crumpled the paper into a ball and threw it into the trash can.
In the third month since He Lin arrived in the foreign country, the branch office was quietly established. He received no reply, and his mood was somewhat downcast.
He stood on this street, a street capable of shaking up the entire global economy, ready to begin writing his own financial era.
……
Early summer.
"Seriously? What are you two up to now?"
Jasmine was currently lounging on a lounge chair by the pool at home, sipping freshly squeezed juice, feeling incredibly relaxed. This time, she had finally reached a complete agreement; her parents wouldn't pressure her into blind dates or marriage anymore, and she was enjoying her life. So, when she was bored, she started checking in on her sisters' affairs every day, making eight hundred phone calls a day.
"I'm doing great. My work and career are going smoothly, and my family is safe and healthy. I'm in the best state right now."
Jasmine gritted her teeth and said, "I'm not asking you, I'm asking both of you. What exactly is your relationship like right now? Are you two even going to make it work?"
Yu Lian didn't stop what she was doing. She tilted her head, held the receiver between her shoulder and ear, and answered with a few words of attention: "I'm fine, nothing's wrong."
Jasmine said, "You can fool others, but can you fool me? You never liked working before, but now all you do every day is work and your child. This is a classic case of using distraction to numb yourself and control your inner conflicts."
"Oh, you figured that out! Jasmine, you're so smart. Okay, I have to go now."
Jasmine: ...
Spitting out the straw, Jasmine got up, dressed, and went out. She felt she needed to do some actual investigation. Since she was free anyway, she figured she had a duty to risk her life for her best friend.
So Jasmine decided to go to the US! She'll also do a national park adventure and maybe see the Grand Canyon!
"Miss, are you thinking of going on a trip again? But you'd better make it clear to your wife and the others that you promise them you won't go on unplanned trips, otherwise they won't force you."
Jasmine patted her aunt on the shoulder: "Auntie, who told you I went on vacation? I'm here to save my best friend's marriage from crisis; it's a very important matter. Can you just stand by and watch your best friend's husband cheat on her and hurt her?"
The aunt shook her head: "But we agreed you couldn't run away. If you break your promise and lower your credibility, you won't have another chance to bargain later."
Jasmine nodded and got into the car on her own: "I already told you I was going to do something for a good friend, it wasn't a trip at all, and I wasn't just wandering around."
Watching the car drive away, the aunt turned back helplessly.
Three days later, Jasmine arrived at the familiar entrance to the Grand Canyon and cycled across the canyon with a group of friends, eventually reaching the Volcanoes National Park. It was a month later before she had a proper chance to release the animals back into nature and enjoy herself.
After visiting New York City with her friends and experiencing the atmosphere of a metropolis, she finally remembered why she had come there in the first place.
"It's too late now. I brought you here to experience the nightlife. Can't you leave those things for tomorrow? Everyone's here, don't spoil the fun."
Jasmine thought her friend made a lot of sense. Anyway, there was still plenty of time, and it wouldn't be too late to investigate tomorrow.
Let's go!
After spending the night with her friends, Jasmine deeply experienced the local nightlife and diverse social customs.
"Scene change!"
On the way to the next venue, Jasmine suddenly felt old; it was only 2 a.m., and she was already too tired to play anymore. But she couldn't spoil her friends' fun; they had finally gotten together, so they should enjoy themselves for as long as possible. After all, in just a few days, they would all be going their separate ways, and the next time they met might be far off.
This time, they went to the biggest bar in the MHD district. Upon entering, they were greeted by a dazzling scene, the noise so loud that all they could hear was their own heart pounding. Crazy rock music and sexy dance performances filled the air.
Their group was quite large, so they didn't sit in the outdoor booths but instead chose a quieter private room inside.
As the waiter led the way, the group's eyes invariably drifted towards an open private room. The waiter was being reprimanded by someone at the door. From the manager's words, it seemed he had broken an expensive bottle of wine ordered by a customer. The bottle was stored at the restaurant by the customer; it wasn't even in the restaurant's wine cellar, and it was incredibly valuable. The waiter trembled, seemingly already foreseeing his fate.
"Alright, let him go. I'll pay for this bottle of wine."
A familiar voice made Jasmine blurt out, "Xue Gou!"
"How come it's you!"
Xue Ci glanced at Jasmine, then quickly pushed the manager and waiter aside and closed the door to the private room. But Jasmine was a clever person; how could she not notice his subtle actions? She immediately went over and opened the door.
Sure enough, He Lin was sitting in the private room, along with a row of scantily clad foreign women...
"Alright, you two!"
Jasmine was angry, but she hadn't lost her temper. Luckily, she still had a camera hanging around her neck, and with a flurry of activity, she snapped dozens of photos.
Xue Ci tried to grab it, but Jasmine dodged quickly and ran to her friends. With Jasmine outnumbering her, Xue Ci was naturally at a disadvantage.
"It's not what you think, don't talk nonsense. Their relationship is already tense right now. If you make things up, He Lin won't let you off the hook when he investigates. Also, He Lin hits women, I'm not kidding."
Jasmine gripped the camera hanging around her neck tightly.
"Of course, He Lin and Xue Gou aren't normal men; they're both gentlemen who remain unmoved by temptation. They're upright and honest, so of course they won't jump up and down because of a few photos."
Her sarcastic tone silenced Xue Ci, who stood there resignedly, patting his forehead.
"I was wrong, Miss. Name your terms. As long as you don't spread those misleading photos, I'll agree to anything."
"Really?"
"Of course, when has Xue Ci ever lied to a woman?"
Jasmine beckoned him over. Her friends were worried about her, but Jasmine persuaded them all to return to their private room.
At the end of the corridor, Jasmine spoke: "Marry me."
