SSS-level catastrophe? That's my wife!
Chapter 8: Was that considered... a kiss?
Su Nianhe stuck out her tongue and licked the blood from her lips, her eyes turning even more bloodshot.
On the left side of her back, a crimson tail-like phantom suddenly bloomed, swaying like flames:
"Truly delicious... I have been waiting for you filthy awakened beings for a long time."
"A golden tail wing on the right, a crimson tail wing on the left... She, she, she is... an SSS-class calamity—the Red King!"
"She's not dead! She's still alive!?"
One of the men in black recognized the distinctive tail fin, his voice stammering with fear, and he didn't even notice the weapon in his hand clattering to the ground.
"escape!"
With that terrified scream, the group of men in black scattered instantly, running wildly in different directions.
"Escape? Hehehe..." Su Nianhe covered her mouth and chuckled.
"You are the key nourishment for my recovery of strength, so who shall begin?"
As she watched the figures scatter and flee, the curve of her lips grew increasingly ferocious, and her eyes became colder and colder.
With each step, bare feet leave a blood-red lotus flower on the scorched ground, while a man in black a hundred meters away suddenly screams and turns to ashes.
A moment later, the crimson tail feathers on Su Nianhe's back gradually became clear and real from their illusory appearance.
She raised her slender fingers to wipe the blood from the corner of her mouth, her crimson pupils gradually regaining their clarity, but a lingering, unfulfilled desire still surged deep within her eyes:
"Not enough...not nearly enough...this filthy blood is far too little!"
The silvery laughter echoed through the ruins once more, but this time it carried a chilling madness.
As the laughter subsided, Su Nianhe suddenly bit her lip, her expression revealing a touch of innocent naiveté: "So, did that count as... a kiss?"
"Of course!" Lin Mu shoveled rice into his bowl and agreed with a smile.
"Dad is absolutely right, you look younger than eighteen."
"Alright, alright, hurry up and eat your food." Jiang Shuwan glared at her son reproachfully, but couldn't help but smile.
"This whole table is full of your favorite foods. You don't learn the good things, but you've mastered your father's art of flattery perfectly."
"You're wrong about that." Lin Ye picked up a piece of braised pork rib and put it into his wife's bowl, chuckling.
"What we're saying is the absolute truth. Honey, if you put on your school uniform and stood at the university gate, you'd definitely look like a fair-skinned, beautiful college student. Everyone would call you the campus belle!"
"That's right!" Lin Mu immediately chimed in.
"Mom is naturally beautiful, so why can't we tell the truth?"
"Really?" Jiang Shuwan's eyes crinkled into a smile, which widened.
"Really!" the father and son said in unison, their tone resolute.
While Jiang Shuwan was still immersed in joy, Lin Mu gripped his chopsticks tightly and cautiously began to speak:
"Mom, can't we really talk about this school thing a little more?"
Lin Ye suddenly stopped mid-air with his chopsticks, his eyes quickly glancing at his wife beside him.
Jiang Shuwan's smile vanished instantly, her gaze darkened, and she looked up at Lin Mu.
Lin Mu's heart skipped a beat, realizing something was wrong.
"Good son," she said slowly, tapping her fingers on the dining table drawer.
"Don't make Mommy slap you when she's so happy."
As she spoke, she took a brand-new frying pan from the drawer, its surface gleaming coldly.
"Just kidding! Mom, don't take it seriously!" Lin Mu immediately backed down and waved his hands repeatedly.
"Going to school is great! I love going to school, really!"
Jiang Shuwan's expression softened, and she put the frying pan back in the drawer: "That's right."
"Mom's been a bit irritable lately, so please don't make me angry, okay?"
"Yes! I know!" Lin Mu nodded emphatically, his head almost touching the bowl.
The air became eerily quiet.
The father and son remained silent, focusing solely on eating, even deliberately softening their chewing sounds, as if the dining table had become a battlefield.
"Why is it so quiet all of a sudden?" Jiang Shuwan suddenly asked, her gaze sweeping back and forth between the two of them.
"Am I that scary?"
Lin Mu and Lin Ye looked up at the same time, nodding as if by reflex.
Then they shook their heads violently, their movements perfectly synchronized, as if they had rehearsed beforehand.
Jiang Shuwan burst out laughing, amused: "Alright, let's get down to business."
She looked at Lin Mu, her eyes becoming serious.
"Son, although Jiangcheng is relatively stable except for Shengjing City, there are still quite a few mutants hidden among the people."
"Although there are Zhen'e Division officers stationed at the main intersection, you must be careful when you go out. Remember not to go to sparsely populated places, especially at night! Once it gets dark, you must not go out unless it is urgent."
"Don't worry, Mom," Lin Mu assured her, patting her chest.
"Your son is all grown up now and can take care of himself."
"You? You've never been a decent person since you were a kid." Jiang Shuwan rolled her eyes at him and then suddenly sighed.
"Something happened in the neighborhood next door last month. A mutant who had been hiding for several years probably got hungry and suddenly attacked his neighbor."
"By the time the Zhen'e Division arrived, dozens of people had already been killed... Alas, the lives of ordinary people are too fragile these days, they break at the slightest touch."
She paused, then added, "Although you are an Awakened One, there's not much difference between a Level Zero and an ordinary person, so you must listen to your mother, understand?"
"I know, I know." Lin Mu nodded quickly, then changed the subject, his voice carrying a hint of probing.
"By the way, Mom, are you and Dad... mutants?"
Lin Ye's chopsticks stopped again, his eyes filled with "Son, are you crazy?", and he froze in his seat.
Jiang Shuwan remained unusually quiet, with a slight upturn at the corners of her mouth, and looked calmly at Lin Mu.
Lin Mu's heart tightened: Oh no, that question was asked too casually...
"Son," she said slowly, her voice eerily calm.
"Your mother carried you and Yan Yan for ten months, raising you to adulthood with countless diapers and care. Do you know how difficult that was for your mother?"
"Mom, I was just kidding! Please don't take it seriously!" Lin Mu immediately forced a flattering smile.
"Wife..." Lin Ye tried to smooth things over.
"Shut up!" Jiang Shuwan interrupted him without turning her head, silently opened the table drawer, and slowly lifted the frying pan.
At this moment, in Lin Mu's eyes, Jiang Shuwan's figure seemed to be shrouded in an oppressive aura, as if a demon had descended upon the world, making even the air feel heavy...
