Chapter 186 The Last Prop: 1 Roll of Kite String
The drone's buzzing was barely audible in the wind and snow.
Su Ming looked up at the gray sky.
"Run!"
Before Li Changfeng and Zhuoma could react, Su Ming had already grabbed his backpack straps and was moving quickly along the steep ridge. His steps were small but extremely fast, always landing on the most stable rocks and ice.
"Keep up!" Li Changfeng roared, grabbing Zhuoma who was still in a daze.
Years of battlefield intuition left him with no doubt about Su Ming's judgment.
Zhuoma cursed under her breath, wiping the snow off her face: "These mad dogs, they're really persistent!"
Having spent years hiking in the mountains, her physical strength far surpassed that of ordinary people, and she immediately kept up with Su Ming's pace.
The three of them ran desperately along the narrow ice ridge toward the distant glacier that shimmered with a ghostly blue light.
Temporary camp for the "Snow Fox" team.
The "Snow Fox" squad leader stared at the thermal imaging footage transmitted back by the drone, calmly issuing orders over the channel.
"Trying to take a shortcut through the 'One Line Sky' glacier? Naïve." He picked up a tablet computer displaying a 3D map of the area. He pointed to a cliff above the glacier entrance.
"Group B, coordinates verified. Let's give them a big gift."
"receive."
On a distant mountain peak, a sniper camouflaged in the snow moved his gun away from the observation post and aimed it at a strangely shaped launcher beside him. It was a miniature rocket-assisted explosive, specifically designed for pinpoint clearing and obstacle creation.
He pulled the trigger.
"call out--"
An inconspicuous flame, trailing a wisp of smoke, pierced the sky.
Su Ming suddenly stopped running and shoved Li Changfeng and Zhuoma to the ground.
"Get down!"
Boom—
A deafening roar, as if the sky were collapsing and the earth were splitting, came from above, and the ice beneath one's feet heaved violently, making it difficult to stand.
Then came an even more terrifying roar.
Above the three of them, large chunks of snow and ice collapsed from the cliff, cascading down like a white torrent towards the glacier entrance.
Driven by instinct, Li Changfeng roared and tackled Su Ming to the ground, using his tactical vest to shield his back from the falling snow and ice. At the same time, he yelled into the communicator, "Command! Requesting fire support..."
"boom!"
More snow and ice fell, and only harsh static filled the communicator.
Droma covered her ears in terror, shrinking into a crevice in the rocks, frantically chanting Tibetan scriptures. In her eyes, this was the wrath of the mountain god.
The avalanche lasted for a full minute before gradually subsiding.
The world quieted down.
Li Changfeng poked his head out of the snowdrift, shook off the ice shards from his helmet, and immediately reached out to pull Su Ming out from under him.
"Are you alive? Are you missing any limbs?"
Su Ming was dragged out by him, covered in dust and dirt, his down jacket torn in several places, the cotton filling mixed with snow. He patted the snow off himself, with only one thought in his mind.
The down jacket should be reimbursed; this definitely counts as a work injury, and extra compensation is required!
He stood up and looked ahead.
Everyone fell silent.
The glacial pass that once allowed passage, the natural passage known as "A Line of Sky," has completely disappeared. In its place stands a sheer cliff tens of meters high, formed by ice floes and snow.
The road is blocked.
Li Changfeng checked the equipment and found that the communicator was completely broken and the satellite phone had no signal.
He punched the ice block next to him and slumped against the stone wall.
"It's over." Li Changfeng took off his helmet, his eyes vacant. "This road is completely ruined. To get around it, it would take at least three days, and that's assuming there's no blizzard. Three days... is enough time for those bastards to sell the Golden Sutra to Mexico."
He leaned against the stone wall and chuckled self-deprecatingly: "When I get back this time, I can just hand in my mission report as my will."
Zhuoma's face turned pale. After checking around, she shook her head: "We can't leave. A second avalanche could happen at any moment. We're trapped."
Despair enveloped them.
Su Ming leaned against a rock, took out a piece of chocolate from his backpack, tore open the wrapper, and took a big bite to replenish his energy.
Su Ming chewed on chocolate and mumbled, "Don't rush to write your will. If the road is blocked, we'll just open another one."
Li Changfeng glared at him: "Build? Build with what? With the sausages in your bag? Build a bridge?"
Su Ming swallowed the last bite of chocolate; the high calories quickly dispelled some of the chill. He brushed the crumbs off his hands, his eyes sharpening again.
He suddenly turned to Li Changfeng: "Captain Li, do you still have any of those small mirrors you had before?"
Li Changfeng was taken aback, then chuckled in exasperation: "Mirrors? Didn't you give them all to those young lamas as 'ritual implements'?"
Su Ming sighed.
"A miscalculation; we should have kept one as a backup."
Li Changfeng: "..."
Looking at Su Ming's profile, he had an absurd thought for the first time: perhaps burying this guy in the snow would restore the world to normal.
Su Ming didn't say anything more. He squatted down and started rummaging through the huge plastic bag that was printed with "Education Supermarket".
Spicy strips... finished eating.
The lollipops... are all gone.
Popping candy... all delivered.
He took the last remaining item from a pile of packaging bags.
and also……
A roll of kite string.
Li Changfeng stared at the coiled thread, rubbed his eyes, and wondered if he was hallucinating from being hit by an avalanche.
"Su Ming, don't tell me you're planning to use this line to pull this iceberg apart." Li Changfeng's voice trembled slightly.
Su Ming shook his head.
"It can't be pulled." Su Ming said succinctly.
He stood up and walked up to Li Changfeng.
"Captain Li," Su Ming suddenly spoke.
"What? To write a will?" Li Changfeng replied irritably.
Give me your knife.
Li Changfeng looked at him warily, his hand resting on the military dagger at his waist.
"What kind of trouble are you going to cause now?"
Su Ming stretched out his hand, palm up, his tone unusually calm: "Give me the knife. I'm going to... perform a minor operation on this mountain."
