The library was so quiet that only the sound of turning pages could be heard.

Su Ming stared at the thick, brick-like "Selected Vocabulary for Level 6" and felt like his brain was about to grow weeds.

In his view, this book was a hundred times more difficult than disassembling a double-fuse liquid bomb. Bombs have logic; the red and blue lines follow the rules of physics. But the spelling of these English words was simply arbitrary and made no sense whatsoever.

"Abandon," Su Ming muttered to himself.

It's definitely time to give up.

"Sizzle—"

Suddenly, all the electronic screens in the library flickered at the same moment.

Whether it's the library kiosks, the electronic clocks on the wall, the laptops in front of the students, or even the secondhand tablet that Su Ming just bought, the screen instantly went from displaying glitches to complete darkness.

The next second, a pale white skull icon appeared in the center of all the screens.

Immediately afterwards, an electronic voice processed by a voice changer came from the speaker, sounding like rusty gears rubbing together.

Good evening, everyone in Jiangnan City.

"I am the shadow."

A commotion broke out in the library. Students looked at each other in surprise, and some hurriedly closed their laptops.

Su Ming frowned, reached out and tapped his tablet twice, but it didn't budge.

"That's rude," Su Ming sighed. "I've only memorized up to C in vocabulary."

"Foolish cops think they can find me, but they're just chasing their own shadows." The electronic voice mocked. "Tonight is the first trial. The trial of those who hide in the light of day."

The image on the screen changed.

In a dimly lit room, the camera shakes violently, clearly a first-person perspective worn by someone.

A pair of hands appeared in the frame, wearing black tactical gloves, slowly wiping a scalpel.

"Look, this is a filthy rat. His hands are stained with blood you can't see."

The camera zooms in abruptly, showing a scalpel aimed at a terrified face with its mouth taped shut.

The image freezes just as the blade is about to touch the skin.

"This is just the beginning." The voice echoed in the silent library. "The next judgment will come soon. And you... are you ready for the purification?"

The live broadcast abruptly stopped.

Screams erupted throughout the library, shattering the previous silence.

"Holy crap! A murder livestream?!"

"Call the police immediately! This is a hacker intrusion!"

In the midst of the chaos, a figure rushed in like a whirlwind.

"Don't move! Don't move! Maintain formation! Don't panic!"

The newcomer was none other than Li Changfeng. He held a gleaming rubber baton, wore swimming goggles that he had somehow acquired as makeshift riot goggles, and his security uniform exuded the aura of a dragon robe. He also had a red armband tucked under his arm that read "Jiangnan University Security Department."

His expression was solemn, as if he were treating the library as a battlefield in Syria.

"Seal off all exits! Check all electronic devices! Hey you! Stop filming, get down! Find cover!"

Li Changfeng roared into the walkie-talkie: "Team Two! Team Two! Cut off the library's main power! This is a cyber terrorist attack! Repeat, a cyber terrorist attack! Activate Level One defense plan! Um... where's the switch?"

Su Ming watched Li Changfeng jumping around, turning a hacking intrusion into a biohazard outbreak, and shook his head helplessly.

He stuffed the tablet into his bag and got up to leave.

"Su, classmate!"

Li Changfeng, with his sharp eyes, slid to his knees and rushed to Su Ming, baton held horizontally in front of his chest, his face tense. "Are you alright? Have you been mentally disturbed? Do you need psychological intervention? That scene was too bloody. You're still a child. Don't be afraid, Brother Li will protect you!"

Su Ming pursed his lips and looked at him: "Brother Li, that's a pre-recorded video."

"Huh?" Li Changfeng was taken aback.

"The lighting is wrong." Su Ming pointed to the tablet whose screen was now black. "The light in the video is the setting sun, and it's at a very low angle. It's 8 p.m. now, so it was recorded in the afternoon, but they're just releasing it now to scare people."

Li Changfeng blinked, and his baton slowly lowered: "So... no one died?"

"The man will probably be dead this afternoon." Su Ming walked past him. "Also, Brother Li, this is just a regular LAN hijacking. If you have someone cut the power, the library's access control system will lock up."

The voice just fell.

"Click".

The electronic lock on the library door made a crisp locking sound.

Hundreds of students were trapped inside, plunged into true darkness.

The screams rang out again.

"Oh no! The power's out!"

"Who the hell did this?!"

In the darkness, Li Changfeng stood frozen in place, while his subordinate's excited voice came through the walkie-talkie: "Captain! The power's off! The enemy can't climb over the network cable and use the electricity anymore! We're safe!"

Su Ming sighed, turned on his phone's flashlight, and illuminated Li Changfeng's embarrassed old face.

"Brother Li, I have a question, does this count as illegal detention?"

Li Changfeng coughed lightly, straightened his clothes, and lowered his voice: "This is... a tactical containment. For everyone's safety. Su Ming, what do you think about this? That guy's pretty arrogant, provoking the police, maybe you..."

"Not interested."

Su Ming interrupted him, picked up his schoolbag, and walked towards the safety passage.

"I haven't finished my homework yet. This kind of catching bad guys is something for the police. I'm just a college student who can't even kill a chicken."

Li Changfeng stared blankly at Su Ming's departing figure, then glanced at the students around him in complete chaos, and finally, resignedly picked up the walkie-talkie, saying weakly:

"Um... could you turn the switch back on? I think the enemy... has retreated."
