Transmigrating to the Beast World and Raising Cubs with a Black Panther
Chapter 3 Qing is here
"Bai Ze, you're awake!" Qing walked over quickly and immediately saw the sub-beastman standing in the open space in front of the cave.
Bai Ze looked up at the sound. The man in front of him was young, with delicate features and a gentle demeanor.
Bai Ze sized him up, then asked hesitantly, "Who are you?"
Jue, who was clearing weeds at the cave entrance, came over upon hearing the noise and explained, "Qing, my father bumped his head and doesn't remember anything."
"Ah?" Qing exclaimed softly, her brows furrowing slightly. "Did you ask the high priest to examine it?"
"I'm fine. Jue said you saved me today." Bai Ze leaned forward and said sincerely, "Qing, thank you so much."
"No, no need. Members of the tribe should help each other." Qing was taken aback by the sudden thanks and waved her hands repeatedly.
He was secretly surprised. The humble and polite Bai Ze in front of him was completely different from the arrogant and domineering Bai Ze of the past.
The orcs in the tribe didn't have a good impression of Bai Ze, and their initial envy of Mo gradually turned into sympathy.
However, because of Yan and Mo's relationship, and because Qing is kind-hearted, even though Bai Ze is difficult to get along with, he will still try his best to take care of the father and son.
"Oh, right," Qing remembered the purpose of her trip and handed over the food she had brought, "this is for you."
Bai Ze was about to decline, but his eyes lit up when he saw the bright red fruit. After eating meat for most of the day, these juicy fruits were like a godsend!
"Qing, where did you get these fruits?" he asked impatiently.
"I went to gather wild vegetables and fruits with the other sub-beastmen in the tribe yesterday." Knowing that Bai Ze didn't remember, Qing patiently explained again, "When the beastmen go out hunting, we sub-beastmen gather wild vegetables and fruits. However, the forest is very dangerous, so we need to go in groups. Of course, the tribe will send beastmen to stay behind to protect us."
Having grown up running around in the mountains with his grandparents, Bai Ze immediately became interested and asked expectantly, "Can you invite me next time you go?"
Qing was extremely surprised: "You're willing to go and collect them?"
Bai Ze's eyes lit up: "Is that okay? I promise I won't cause you any trouble."
"Of course," Qing replied with a smile. It was a good thing that Bai Ze was willing to go and collect the materials.
Xi, who had been hiding behind Qing, saw Jue and immediately popped out.
He pulled Jue by the arm and walked her aside, first checking her over before asking in a low, worried voice, "Did your father hit you again?"
Bai Ze sometimes attacks from very hidden spots, which Xi can't see, so he needs to confirm it.
"No," Jue shook her head.
"Really?" Xi was a little skeptical, after all, Jue had lied to him quite a few times before.
"Really." Jue patted his hand. "I'm not lying to you."
Hearing this, Xi breathed a sigh of relief, quietly stuffed the roasted meat wrapped in leaves into Jue's hand, and whispered, "Eat it quickly."
Jue pushed the roasted meat back: "We've already eaten. Xi, we don't know when Beast Father and the others will be back, so you can keep this for yourself."
"No way!" Xi's personality was completely different from Qing's. Perhaps it was because they grew up together, but she was especially "domineering" in front of Jue. "You eat quickly."
"Your father will find out soon."
Jue glanced at the two adults who were talking, then pulled Xi and quietly slipped into the cave.
"What's wrong?" Xi asked anxiously as she followed him inside.
Jue took out a small bowl: "Try this, it's delicious."
"What's this?" Xi curiously picked up a golden-yellow object from the bowl and put it in her mouth. Her eyes immediately lit up. "It's crispy and fragrant, Jue, so delicious!"
Seeing Xi squint her eyes in satisfaction, Jue couldn't help but raise the corners of her mouth: "It's pork cracklings, made by my father-in-law."
"Your foster father?" Xi stared wide-eyed in disbelief. "He actually cooked for you!"
"Hmm," Jue replied softly, "I don't know why, but he changed after he woke up."
"Will he always be like this from now on?" Xi tilted her head and leaned on Jue's shoulder. "He won't scold you, he won't hit you, and he'll even cook delicious food for you."
Jue shook her head: "I don't know."
"Xi, it's time to go home." Qing's voice came from outside the cave.
Seeing that they were about to leave, Jue wrapped the oil residue in leaves and stuffed it into Xi's animal skin bag: "Take this back and eat it slowly."
Xi clutched her pocket like a precious treasure, her eyes sparkling: "Jue, you're so kind."
"I'm leaving." Xi took her father's hand and walked several steps away, then turned back and reminded him, "Jue, don't forget to go hunting together tomorrow!"
Jue: "Understood."
Bai Ze stood beside him, surprised: "You're so young, and you're going hunting too?"
Jue: "Every orc must learn to hunt from a young age."
Bai Ze was a little worried: "But Qing said that the forest is very dangerous."
"An orc from the tribe will take us with them; the place won't be far."
"Orcs?" Bai Ze wondered to himself; the terminology here was really strange.
By this time, it was completely dark. Jue relit the fire in the cave, and the flickering flames illuminated the cave with a warm, bright yellow light.
Bai Ze rinsed the apple-shaped fruit that Qing had brought him with water and handed one to Jue.
"I'm full," Jue shook her head.
"Fruit replenishes Vitamin C." After spending half a day with the child, Bai Ze had figured out his personality and simply stuffed a fruit into his hand. "Eating one is good for your health."
The firelight cast their shadows onto the cave wall, one large and one small, one high and one low.
"Do we have any wild vegetables or anything like that at home?" Bai Ze suddenly asked.
Jue put it tactfully: "You don't like collecting."
"Really?" Bai Ze chuckled awkwardly. "I used to be quite unique."
There was no calendar here, so Bai Ze picked up a piece of pebbles and carved a horizontal line on the cave wall, intending to use the character "正" (zhèng) to record how long he had been in this world.
After sitting for a while, Bai Ze faced a very serious problem—going to the toilet.
After hesitating for a long time, he gently poked Jue to express his urgent physical needs.
Jue led Bai Ze out of the cave. Although it was night, the moonlight was bright, illuminating the surroundings clearly.
Jue stopped in front of a fence made of stones and branches nearby.
"Is it here?" Bai Ze asked, confirming.
Jue nodded.
After Bai Ze went inside, he found a large pit filled with green plants. Two wooden planks were placed over the pit, resembling a modern dry toilet.
However, the area below was lush and green, full of life, and there was no excrement at all.
After finishing, Bai Ze asked curiously, "What are those green plants in the pit?"
"Twisty Grass." Jue walked ahead, bathed in moonlight. "They eat everything and can process the contents of the plant."
"It's quite high-end," Bai Ze remarked as he walked. "No wonder it's so clean inside. If you didn't know better, you'd think it was a park or green space."
In just half a day, Jue had almost become immune to the strange things Bai Ze often said.
The temperature difference between day and night is huge this season, and a cool breeze blows, giving Bai Ze goosebumps.
The animal hide he was wearing was good; in the past, it would have been a fur coat that he couldn't afford. But now, the sewing was poor, and it was drafty, so the comfort level was really low.
Bai Ze quickened his pace and breathed a sigh of relief after entering the cave. He rubbed his arms, squatted by the fire to warm his hands, and pondered whether he should light a fire for the inner cave as well.
But as his body temperature rose, and thinking about the thick animal skin rug on his bed, Bai Ze felt it was unnecessary.
Jue was already sleepy, so she walked to the pile of weeds inside the large cave, lay down on it, and prepared to sleep.
Bai Ze turned his head and saw the child huddled in a corner, half-covered by a piece of animal skin, looking pitiful.
He walked over and asked, "You sleep here?"
Jue sat up: "What's wrong?"
Seeing the child's nonchalant expression filled Bai Ze with mixed feelings.
He said, "Why don't you sleep in the cave with me? It's cold and drafty at the entrance."
Jue lowered her head, her eyelashes trembling slightly: "I've always slept here, I'm not cold."
Bai Ze sighed when his attempts to persuade him failed.
Jue didn't pay attention after he left. She had to get up early tomorrow, so she needed to go to sleep quickly.
Before long, Jue felt a thick layer of animal hide on her body.
Bai Ze moved very gently, carefully tucking the child in before quietly leaving.
The firelight gradually dimmed. Jue huddled in the warm, large animal-skin blanket, his eyes fixed on the gray stone wall, lost in thought.
