Transmigrating to the Beast World and Raising Cubs with a Black Panther
Chapter 2 Is your mother the beast father?
Then, silence fell over the cave, and the atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
Bai Ze suddenly missed his phone.
After a moment, he looked at Jue, whose features resembled his own, and spoke first: "Are you afraid of me?"
Jue looked away: "No."
Bai Ze could clearly sense the child's defensiveness and distance, and he said sincerely, "I won't do anything."
Jue didn't trust Bai Ze's words much, but still hummed in agreement.
"Can you tell me what this place is?" Bai Ze asked, gesturing with his hands to add, "This whole place."
"Or rather, what's the name of this forest?"
Jue didn't understand Bai Ze's strange questions, but still answered, "The Great Shaman said we are in the middle of the Beast God Continent."
"The Beast God Continent," Bai Ze pondered the name in his mind. He then asked, "What about other places? East? West? South? North?"
Jue shook her head.
"What is a Great Shaman?"
"He is the most important person in the tribe. We go to him when we are sick or injured, and he is also the one who performs the sacrifices to the beast god."
Upon hearing this, Bai Ze understood; it must be the shaman from the early tribe. He then asked, "Do you know how I fell into the water?"
Jue recalled what she had seen that morning and shook her head: "Qing said that when he saw you, you were already in the lake."
"Who is Qing?"
"The beast father's friend, the flame's companion."
"And what is Beast Father?" One question after another made Bai Ze feel a little embarrassed. In order to find a suitable reason for himself, he thought for a while and finally said, "I'm sorry, Jue, I may have hit my head in the water and I can't remember anything now."
Jue didn't find Bai Ze's statement unusual, after all, his behavior had already explained everything.
"The high shaman is in the tribe; I'll go find him."
"No need, I'm fine, I should be better in a few days." Bai Ze quickly grabbed his arm and continued with his previous question, "So, Jue, what is a Beast Father?"
Jue looked confused; he didn't know how to explain.
Bai Ze thought for a moment, then asked probingly, "Is 'Beast Father' a term of address for a person? Like 'Under-Father'?"
Jue nodded.
"Then who is your beastly father?"
"ink."
"What is my relationship with Mo?"
"companion."
Bai Ze, who was calculating the process of kinship, almost bit his tongue, exclaiming in astonishment, "Companion?!"
"Um."
Bai Ze assumed it was a slip of the tongue: "Jue, you meant your companions, right?"
Jue explained earnestly, "A partner is not a companion. You and the beast father are partners, which is why I was born."
"?! Your mother is a beastly father?"
Jue felt that Bai Ze's condition was very serious and kept saying strange things.
"No, I mean, you came out of your beast father's belly?"
Jue: "I was born from you."
"Every cub comes from the womb of his father."
Combining this with what Jue had said earlier, Bai Ze's mind went blank. He asked anxiously, "So, you're saying that I gave birth to you, that you came out of...out of my belly?"
Jue nodded.
"!" Bai Ze's eyes widened. "Primitive men can give birth? That's not mentioned in biology books!"
He instinctively touched his stomach. God, please don't do this to me!
Bai Ze peered towards the cave entrance and asked, "When will your beast father return?"
Jue shook her head: "The clan chief said that the place the Beast Father and the others are going to this time is very far away."
Thankfully, at least he was given a grace period, so he didn't have to meet his so-called "partner" right away, otherwise it would have been too dramatic.
"One last question." Bai Ze appeared calm, but was actually numb. "What's my name?"
"Bai Ze".
Good grief, same name, so is that why God let me transmigrate here...?
After their conversation, Bai Ze felt that the child spoke quite maturely, like an adult.
He couldn't help but reach out and ruffle Jue's hair: "How old are you?"
Jue instinctively clenched the animal hide, but the pain she expected did not come.
It's itchy.
After rubbing his hair, Bai Ze gently pinched his cheek.
"Eight years old." Jue was clearly not used to Bai Ze's behavior at this moment, but she did not show it.
"Eight years old?!" Bai Ze thought he was only six years old, after all, the child was thin and small, with no flesh on his face or body, yet he was already eight years old.
The sun gradually disappeared behind the mountains, and the sky slowly darkened.
Bai Ze's stomach growled, and he asked somewhat embarrassedly, "Is there any food at home?"
A hint of surprise flashed across Jue's face. Bai Ze had never referred to the cave in this way before, and he always looked disgusted whenever he mentioned it.
Bai Ze thought he didn't understand, so he explained, "Home is where we live."
Jue went into another cave, and when she came out, she had a piece of meat in her hand.
Bai Ze felt embarrassed to just sit and wait to be fed, especially since the other person was a child, so he went over and said, "I'll cook."
Jue rarely saw his father cook, and even when he did, he only cooked his own portion. Moreover, he dared not eat the food Bai Ze cooked, otherwise he would get another beating.
Jue shook her head and skillfully began to busy herself.
He took the meat to the stone vat, rinsed it with water, then placed it on the stone slab and cut it into pieces with a bone knife. He then put it into a stone pot, added water, and picked up a bowl, scooped out some white granules, and sprinkled them in.
Bai Ze was wondering how he started a fire when he saw Jue squatting on the ground, picking up two stones, gently rubbing them together, and the straw and wood fibers that had been placed in the pit beforehand instantly burst into flames.
Soon, the fire in the primitive stove was blazing. Jue placed the stone pot on it, then sat down on the ground and quietly watched the flames dancing on the wood.
Bai Ze glanced into the small cave that Jue had just gone into. It was very empty inside, except for some firewood and two very fat pieces of meat on a large wooden shelf.
The water in the stone pot began to boil, and white steam rose from the cave entrance and the circular ventilation openings carved into the stone walls.
Bai Ze leaned closer and asked, "What kind of meat is this?"
Jue didn't even look up: "Hmph Beast."
"Hum-Hum Beast?" Bai Ze couldn't help but laugh. "The name you came up with is quite cute."
Bai Ze unconsciously grunted twice. After subconsciously making a pig-like noise, he immediately realized that the Grunting Beast might be a pig.
However, in this primeval forest, the pigs are unlikely to be the clean-cut white pigs of modern times; they are more likely to be the kind of wild boars that look imposing, cool, and aloof.
Jue stirred it a few times with a wooden stick, and after waiting a while, he scooped it out in a bowl and placed it on the stone table.
Bai Ze looked at the bowl full of meat in front of him, feeling a mix of emotions.
The child across from me had a bowl full of soup and broth.
Seeing Bai Ze staring at his bowl, Jue silently picked up his chopsticks and took the little meat that was left inside.
"What are you doing?" Bai Ze quickly stopped them and switched their bowls.
Jue looked at Bai Ze with a very strange expression.
Bai Ze tentatively asked, "Jue, was I very bad to you before?"
Jue didn't say anything, and lowered her head to eat the food in her bowl.
It should be the default.
Although he didn't do it, Bai Ze still felt inexplicably sad looking at the child's cautious and uneasy appearance.
He said solemnly, "Jue, I don't remember anything from before, but I promise you, I won't do it again."
Jue lowered her head even further.
Bai Ze knew that nothing could be changed in a short time, so he didn't say anything more.
The cave returned to silence.
He picked up the bowl and took a sip, but a strong, fishy taste instantly filled his mouth. The next second, Bai Ze's face contorted as he spat out the entire soup.
Jue immediately looked up, gripping her chopsticks tightly with a tense expression.
"It's nothing, it's nothing, it's just too hot," Bai Ze quickly explained.
He looked at Jue across from him, who was eating with great relish, and thought that maybe it was his fault.
Bai Ze suppressed the urge to vomit, picked up a piece of white meat, put it in his mouth, and took a bite before the nausea in his stomach surged up again.
It's greasy and fishy.
"Ugh~" Bai Ze really couldn't swallow it. He put down his chopsticks and suddenly missed his hot pot and spicy soup.
Seeing that he had put down his chopsticks, Jue stopped moving as well, holding her breath and waiting for Bai Ze's anger.
Bai Ze asked softly, "Do...do we usually eat these?"
"This is all the meat we have left at home." After saying that, Jue paused and continued, "We're almost out of salt too, and we don't know when Beast Father will be back."
Bai Ze sighed. Times have changed, he could understand, but he really couldn't eat this meal.
Jue said, "There's still a piece of meat at home, we can roast it."
Bai Ze stood up: "I'll do it."
He went to the storeroom and took out another piece of fatty meat, washed it many times with water, and then placed it on a stone slab, intending to slice it into thin slices with a knife.
The stone knife was awkward to use, so he switched to a clam shell knife, which was much lighter and easier. Bai Ze couldn't help but marvel at the wisdom of his ancestors.
He washed the stone pot clean with water and prepared to start a fire, but Bai Ze tried several times and couldn't produce even a spark.
Left with no other choice, he had to ask Jue for help.
The child was very quick and efficient, rapidly starting a fire and then adding more firewood.
"It's okay, you go play somewhere else, I can do it myself."
Jue returned to the stone table; the food was precious and shouldn't be wasted.
Bai Ze put the chopped fatty meat into the heated stone pot and began to stir it continuously. Yellow oil gradually emerged from the bottom of the pot, and more and more bubbles appeared. The fatty meat slowly turned golden brown, and a rich and mellow aroma of fat filled the cave.
Jue glanced at the cave entrance and continued to quietly eat the food in her bowl.
Once the oil in the pot turned golden brown, Bai Ze extinguished the fire, then used chopsticks made of wooden sticks to pick up the oil residue and put it into a bowl. He then poured the oil from the pot into another, larger stone bowl.
Bai Ze tasted it and finally felt like normal food. He breathed a sigh of relief, sprinkled some salt on the cracklings, and then divided them into two portions, placing one portion in front of Jue.
Jue looked at the food in front of her, swallowed hard, but didn't touch her chopsticks, not even Bai Ze's bowl of meat.
Bai Ze sat down next to him and pushed the bowl towards him: "You eat this."
Jue asked uncertainly, "For me?"
"Of course, you should try it."
Even if she looks precocious, she is still a child. Jue picked up a piece and put it in her mouth. Her eyes lit up instantly. Although it was fleeting, Bai Ze still noticed it.
He asked, "Is it delicious?"
Jue nodded.
Bai Ze smiled: "This whole bowl is yours."
After saying that, he cut the stewed meat into smaller pieces and fried it again in the freshly rendered oil.
The meat smelled delicious. Jue felt he had never eaten such delicious food before, but he didn't dare to take too much. In the end, Bai Ze divided the meat into portions, and only then did Jue dare to eat to his heart's content.
Bai Ze looked at the child wolfing down his food and felt heartbroken. No wonder he was so thin and small. He was at the age where he was growing, and he was not eating well or getting enough to eat. It was no wonder he could not gain weight.
Jue's appetite exceeded Bai Ze's expectations; he ate two-thirds of the meal.
Bai Ze was worried that the child had overeaten, so he asked him several times if he felt unwell.
After the meal, before Bai Ze could even stand up, Jue picked up the bowls, chopsticks, and used pots from the table and began washing them in front of the cave entrance.
Bai Ze leaned against the rock wall and suddenly felt that having such a son was not bad, after all, in the original world, he had no relatives after his grandmother passed away.
