The boy soldier next to the famous detective
Chapter 49 Revisited Tropical Paradise
Seeing Ran Mouri's unusual behavior, Jonah, who had been keeping a close watch on the surroundings, moved closer and followed Ran Mouri's gaze to the television program.
With Sonoko Suzuki's help, Eri Kisaki and Kogoro Mouri quickly arrived and communicated with the attending physician, Kyosuke Kazato.
"Xiao Lan's memory is indeed recovering little by little. If she reacted to the tropical amusement park, experiencing it herself might actually have a good therapeutic effect."
"But wouldn't that expose Xiaolan to the killer's threat?"
Kogoro Mouri agreed with Kyosuke Kazato's suggestion, but Eri Kisaki did not want to agree.
Last time, she wanted to take Ran Mouri out for a walk to relax, but Ran Mouri almost got pushed off the tracks on the platform. If it weren't for Jonah and Conan Edogawa's quick reactions, Eri Kisaki would have regretted it terribly.
"I want to go. I want to regain my memories. If I don't take this step, nothing will be resolved."
In the end, it was Ran Mouri who voiced her thoughts, leaving Eri Kisaki with no choice but to agree to the decision.
"Auntie Eri, I will protect Ran-neechan."
Jonah walked up to Eri Kisaki, tugged at her sleeve, and said earnestly.
"I will not give that guy another chance to hurt Sister Xiaolan."
"Then I'll leave it to you, Jonah."
Touched, she hugged Jonah. To her shame, both Eri Kisaki and Kogoro Mouri felt much more at ease entrusting the task of protecting Ran Mouri to Jonah.
The plan to try to regain their memories at the tropical amusement park was thus decided, but at Ran Mouri's request, everyone was not to tell Conan Edogawa about it.
Originally, Ran Mouri didn't want to trouble Jonah at all; she didn't want to see anyone else get into danger because of her.
Unfortunately, she couldn't get rid of Jonah at all, and had no choice but to give up even the idea of hiding it from Conan Edogawa.
"Going to the tropical amusement park... Jonah, I'll leave Lan to you. My investigation has yielded some results, and I need to find out who the murderer is as soon as possible so that Lan can truly escape danger."
Although he really wanted to go to the tropical amusement park with Ran Mouri, Conan Edogawa calmly thought it over for a while and decided to find the culprit first.
"Leave it to me."
Knowing that Conan Edogawa's actions were also important, Jonah naturally had no objections. The next day, he still carried his exclusive bulletproof backpack and, along with Kogoro Mouri and Sonoko Suzuki, took Ran Mouri to the tropical park.
"Do you think Jonah always carries such a big bag? Maybe he has snacks in it for when he gets hungry at the amusement park?"
In the Beetle driven by Professor Agasa, Genta Kojima saw Jonah carrying the backpack that hadn't left his side for the past few days and couldn't suppress his curiosity, so he asked.
"I don't know. Jonah always carries it on his back and never takes it off. I asked him about it when I was curious, but he didn't tell me."
Shaking her head, Yoshida Ayumi also noticed the backpack, but no matter how she asked, Jonah wouldn't tell her what was inside.
"Should we take a look later?"
Genta Kojima and Ayumi Yoshida were both curious, and Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya was naturally also curious. He held up one finger and spoke expectantly, hoping to get his friends' support.
"You can't do this. That backpack is very important to Jonah. You don't want to see Jonah very angry with you, do you?"
Turning her head to glance at the three restless little ones, Ai Haibara stopped their mischievous plans.
Ai Haibara knew all too well what was inside that backpack; it was definitely not something children like them could touch.
"Uh, never mind then."
Upon hearing Ai Haibara say that Jonah would be angry if they touched the backpack, the three children immediately quieted down.
They had seen how terrifying Jonah could be when he was angry with others, but this time Ai Haibara actually said "very angry".
After imagining Jonah in that state, the three kids decided that they should just stick to their original plan and protect Ran Mouri.
The group quickly arrived at the amusement park. Sonoko Suzuki stood next to Ran Mouri, happily introducing the various facilities to her, and occasionally interjecting about Shinichi Kudo.
Although she was very annoyed, Sonoko Suzuki also noticed that Ran Mouri reacted more strongly when Shinichi Kudo was mentioned compared to herself.
As Sonoko walked through the amusement park with Ran Mouri in hand, she turned her head and glanced at a man dressed as an ordinary tourist not far away. After receiving a nod from the man, she turned to Jonah, who had been standing guard to the side, and nodded to him as well.
When Sonoko Suzuki decided to bring Ran Mouri to the amusement park today, she learned that Ran had been attacked before. Sonoko then used a very forceful approach to ask her parents to bring out a team of Suzuki family bodyguards and have them disguise themselves and hide around to protect Ran.
Sonoko Suzuki didn't tell anyone else this, only Jonah, because she knew that if she didn't communicate with Jonah beforehand, given Jonah's observation and perception of those around him, he might mistake her bodyguard for an enemy, which would be a huge embarrassment.
At the entrance to the roller coaster, Ran Mouri stood there, a thoughtful look in her eyes: "I think I've been here before."
"I remember when Shinichi brought you here, he solved a roller coaster murder case here."
With his hands in his pockets, Kogoro Mouri, who was standing beside him, recalled the cases he knew and subconsciously added a comment.
"In that case, let's give it a try. What if Xiaolan remembers something?"
Upon hearing this, Sonoko Suzuki immediately dragged Ran Mouri to buy tickets, hoping to see if the roller coaster could stimulate Ran's memories.
Jonah also bought a ticket and went in, but since backpacks are not allowed on roller coasters, after scanning around and finding no one in the same car as Ran Mouri who was carrying a gun, he gave up on riding the car and decided to stay on the side and wait for Ran Mouri to get off.
The staff were completely bewildered and wanted to take Jonah away, but after Sonoko Suzuki's bodyguard intervened, they had no choice but to let Jonah retreat to a safe distance and wait for the roller coaster to complete one loop before returning.
Ran Mouri was fine after successfully getting off the roller coaster, but Kogoro Mouri, who was afraid of heights, was almost half dead. He lay motionless on the bench, his face pale.
Still standing beside Ran Mouri, observing the surroundings, Jonah glanced at Wataru Takagi who had left to go to the restroom after talking with Kogoro Mouri, and then his gaze suddenly locked onto a squirrel doll that had suddenly released its balloon and was approaching them.
As the squirrel doll approached step by step, Jonah narrowed his eyes, pulled a dagger from a hidden compartment under his backpack, and charged at the squirrel without saying a word.
"Wait, Jonah!"
