Courtyard House: Home Alone

Chapter 187 Capturing Doi-Yuan Alive

After dealing with the sentries at the gate, Lin Yifan didn't linger at all. With a flicker of his body, he drifted through the courtyard like a wisp of smoke.

Wherever they went, the visible sentries, hidden sentries, and patrols all followed in the footsteps of those two sentries.

Next, there were the Japanese soldiers resting in the backyard. Lin Yifan used his spatial ability to enter each room and quickly returned the sleeping Japanese soldiers to their aunt's arms.

Now, the only people left in the entire courtyard are the fat, muscular old Japanese soldier sleeping in the master bedroom of the west wing and his adjutant sleeping next door.

Lin Yifan didn't linger. He knew that Kenji Doihara was the key target of this trip. With a thought, he went to the adjutant's bedside and knocked him unconscious with a wave of his hand.

Then, he went to the master bedroom, where he saw Kenji Doihara snoring softly. Lin Yifan moved his mind and first put a samurai sword and a wakizashi from the sword rack into his spatial storage. Then, he also put away a Browning pistol from under Kenji Doihara's pillow.

Then he sat down on the chair in front of the bed, turned on the light, and the dim light instantly dispelled the darkness in the room, illuminating Kenji Doihara's restless face.

He seemed to be awakened by the light; his eyelids twitched, and with a hint of confusion, he slowly opened his eyes.

When his gaze focused and he saw the child sitting in the chair in front of the bed, dressed in black night clothes with a faint, cold smile on his face, Kenji Doihara's pupils suddenly contracted, and he instantly sobered up. A chill ran from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.

In the heavily guarded courtyard, a child suddenly appeared in front of his bed. Kenji Doihara tried to sit up abruptly, letting out a "hoarse" sound, but Lin Yifan's cold gaze kept him pinned to the bed, unable to move.

He couldn't understand where this child had come from. Where were the guards? Where were all those self-proclaimed elite Imperial Army soldiers? He opened his mouth, wanting to shout, but found his voice stuck in his throat, only able to make faint gasping sounds.

Looking at his panicked and pale face, Lin Yifan curled his lips into a mocking smile and slowly spoke, his voice not loud, but carrying a chilling intent: "Kenji Doihara, how have you been?"

The childish voice rang out in the quiet room, but it struck Kenji Doihara like a thunderbolt. He instinctively reached for the gun under his pillow, but found nothing. He then looked at the knife rack, which was also empty.

"Who are you?!" Kenji Doihara's voice trembled slightly, but his years as a special agent forced him to remain calm. He looked at Lin Yifan warily, trying to find a familiar clue from the other person.

Lin Yifan did not answer immediately, but looked at him calmly, his eyes like those of someone looking at a lamb to the slaughter.

His gaze lingered for a moment on Kenji Doihara's wrinkled and calculating face before he slowly spoke, his voice cold and clear: "Kenji Doihara, from the moment you set foot on Chinese soil, your good days have come to an end."

Upon hearing the familiar Chinese and hearing the other person directly call out his name, Kenji Doihara's heart skipped a beat, and a terrifying thought arose in his mind.

He sat up abruptly, stared at Lin Yifan, and asked sharply, "You...you are...you are a member of 'Ghost'?" This name was the biggest thorn in his side lately, the mysterious organization that had repeatedly thwarted his plans and caused him to suffer heavy losses.

To this day, he still believes that "Ghost" should be an organization, because the things that "Ghost" has done cannot be accomplished by one or a few people; it would take at least hundreds or even thousands of people to do them.

Upon hearing this, Lin Yifan's mockery deepened: "'Ghost'? Ha, you dare to know who I am? Now, all you need to know is that you are now my prisoner."

He paused, his eyes suddenly turning sharp as knives. "Tell me, where is your radio codebook? And all the coded messages and frequencies you use to communicate with the outside world!"

Kenji Doihara's face turned pale and then red. He never expected to be defeated by a child, especially since the other party got straight to the point as soon as he opened his mouth, clearly having come prepared.

His eyes darted around rapidly, trying to buy time or find a chance to escape. "I don't know what you're talking about, I'm just an ordinary businessman..."

"An ordinary businessman?"

Lin Yifan sneered: "Mr. Doihara, I have no patience to play along with your act. I'll ask you one more time: where are the codebook, the cipher, and the frequency?"

If you don't tell me, and you call yourself a Chinese expert, I wonder how much you know about the ten most brutal tortures of ancient China? But I'll make sure you know everything.

"At that time, I will make you feel that death is the happiest thing. Unfortunately, you can't do it!" The threat from the cold voice made Kenji Doihara tremble all over, and his sleepiness vanished completely.

He knew that the child in front of him was not joking. The ruthlessness in the other's eyes and his unpredictable methods filled him with unprecedented fear.

"What...what do you want?" Kenji Doihara's voice finally carried obvious fear. He realized that he had really been defeated this time.

"It's simple," Lin Yifan said calmly, yet with an undeniable air of authority. "Cooperate with me and tell me everything I want to know. Perhaps you can suffer less. Otherwise, I'll have someone try all ten of China's most brutal tortures on you."

Kenji Doihara looked into Lin Yifan's emotionless eyes and knew that the other man meant what he said. He remained silent for a few seconds, his heart churning with inner turmoil.

As a seasoned intelligence chief, he knew all too well the importance of codebooks and communications; a leak would have unimaginable consequences. But right now, with everything in someone else's hands, he had no choice.

"Okay... I'll tell you..." Kenji Doihara swallowed hard, his voice dry as he said, "The codebook is in the third drawer of my desk, locked in a black leather wallet. The code and frequency... I've memorized them, I can write them down for you."

Lin Yifan nodded, remaining vigilant: "Very good. Now, take me to get the codebook, and write down the codes and frequencies. Don't try anything funny, my patience is limited." His mental focus remained locked on Kenji Doihara; he would act immediately if the other party made any unusual moves.

Kenji Doihara dared not delay. He struggled to get out of bed and, under Lin Yifan's watchful eye, walked tremblingly to the desk, opened the third drawer, and took out a black leather bag.

Lin Yifan took the bag, opened it, and saw that it contained a thick codebook. He nodded in satisfaction, put the codebook away, and then handed Doihara Kenji paper and pen: "Now, write down the code and frequency."

Kenji Doihara dared not disobey, picked up a pen, and began writing rapidly on the paper. His hand trembled slightly with fear and anger, and the handwriting was somewhat messy.
