Chapter 36 The Noisy Camp: A Bloodstained Warning
Ironthorn Mountains.
Above the clouds and the mountain peaks.
The swirling snowflakes, seemingly without end, blanketed the silvery-white earth.
Huo Jixing looked up at the camp with its red banners fluttering, grinned, and immediately wiped the ice shards from his face before striding toward the massive steel gate.
Inside the camp, the streets are made of bluestone.
Huo Jixing sniffed the mixed smells in the air: a faint odor of sweat, the rusty smell of blood, the scent of horses, and the scorching heat from the Noxian forge.
"Tsk, those are the days!"
However, when he returned to the camp after only half a month away, he felt a sense of nostalgia.
He observed the Noxian soldiers coming and going, all clad in armor.
Huo Jixing remained calm and walked forward with ease.
The sentries and soldiers he encountered along the way automatically let him pass after seeing the token hanging from his waist.
Tap tap! Tap tap! Tap tap!
Suddenly, the sound of rapid hoofbeats rang out.
Huo Jixing veered to the left side of the street and looked back.
On the bluestone road in the distance, three messengers riding armored warhorses came swiftly, their bodies covered in the grime of wind and frost.
call!
The howling wind blew his cloak, and Huo Jixing's expression was solemn.
A messenger who came from afar.
"Hey, how many messengers have arrived at the camp now?"
"Who knows? I remember there have been seven or eight groups, all heading towards the council hall."
The murmurs around him made Huo Jixing stop in his tracks, his mind racing.
It was at this moment that he noticed something was off about the atmosphere in the camp.
The atmosphere in the camp was much more restless than before he left, and he observed that many Noxian soldiers were heading towards the council hall.
"Is this... a blitzkrieg?"
Huo Jixing was terrified, instantly thinking of the terrifying effects of a bombing, but then he realized he was overthinking it.
The commander in the camp now is none other than Darius, the Hand of Noxus.
With his prestige, how could he not quell the unrest in the camp?
The atmosphere currently hanging over the camp led Huo Jixing to speculate that news of Swain's coup in the distant capital might have reached here.
South of the campsite, a rest area.
Inside the dark gray three-story building, in a rather quiet living room.
"Xing, why are you back at this time?"
Captain Eric looked at Hoji Star in front of him, his tone urgent.
"Why can't I come back?" Huo Jixing crossed his arms and asked with a smile, "My studies are over, of course I have to come back!"
"What about DeWitt and Moore?"
Eric frowned, looked intently at Huo Jixing, and replied softly, "They went to train and should be back after dusk."
Unlike their living quarters, Eric and his scouts had their own shared house.
The training grounds for normal soldiers are public areas.
The area that DeWitt and Moore went to was a designated area of the camp.
"You shouldn't have come back so soon. Wilson's study period for you still has a few days left."
After Hojixing left the camp, Wilson had talked to Eric about studying.
"It seems you already know something."
Huo Jixing straightened up, lowered his arms, and looked directly into Eric's brown eyes.
"Noxians are never afraid of trouble and chaos, and that's why I've returned."
A somber atmosphere filled the living room.
Huo Jixing shrugged and broke the silence first: "Eric, don't overthink it. Our thoughts are not as important as you think."
Pointing towards the council chamber, he continued, "Their thoughts will determine the final outcome and our future."
Seeing that Eric's expression gradually relaxed, Huo Jixing got up and waved to Eric as he walked towards the backyard.
"I learned a lot from this training trip, how about I practice?"
It was at this moment that Eric suddenly noticed that Hoji Star seemed to have changed somewhat compared to before, becoming more composed and confident.
They also have the strength.
Upon closer inspection, he felt a sense of unease, as if an ancient ferocious beast was hidden beneath Huo Jixing's muscular physique.
Eric stood up, his expression showing no fear, but rather a certain eagerness.
Only through battles like this can he have room to improve!
In the center of the camp, in the council hall.
Before the magnificent and solemn steel gate, Wilson, dressed in a red and gray robe, looked down at the messengers who had come from afar, as they left along the stone steps.
Only after the messengers disappeared from sight did he slowly walk towards the dark and gloomy hall behind him.
In the spacious and quiet hall, crimson imperial flags hung on the walls, and sharp-edged stone pillars stood all around. Empty wooden chairs were arranged along the long table in the center, bathed in sunlight.
Do not!
At the head of the table at the far end, a tall figure sat upright.
Under the bright yellow magical light, Wilson tiptoed to the head of the table and saw the middle-aged man leaning back in his chair.
Darius, the Hand of Noxus!
Boom!Boom!Boom!
As if deep in thought with his eyes closed, Darius tapped the armrest of the wooden chair lightly with his gloved hand, his expression serious.
Wilson stood still, waiting quietly, his sharp gaze sweeping over the two letters on the conference table.
A black letter bearing a raven emblem.
"It's Lord Swain!"
Wilson's heart sank as he recalled the urgent plea for help that had come from the capital.
Swain launched a coup without warning, overthrowing Darkwell's supreme rule overnight and easily taking the throne.
"His letter." Wilson glanced at Darius in front of him with a cryptic look, deep in thought.
In comparison, the other letter was just an ordinary letter.
There were no markings on it, and the deep red sealing wax had peeled off; it was torn open carelessly.
"It's Draven's!"
Wilson was startled, then turned his head and saw Darius with his eyes open, looking helplessly at the letter on the table.
"General, Lord Draven."
"He has sided with Swain and wrote that those old nobles are so wealthy they could arm ten warbands!"
Darius's voice was cold, as if he was suppressing his anger.
Wilson subconsciously guessed the outcome, not referring to Lord Draven.
The general was furious with those old nobles; at a time when the empire was in crisis, those guys still had so much wealth.
"The guys in the camp must have received the message!" Darius said in a rough accent, his eyes gleaming.
"Swain's coup, for the current empire, is perhaps a change in nature!"
Driven by his own selfish desires and dream of immortality, Darkwell has weakened the Empire to the point of collapse, with many fronts spiraling out of control and countless Imperial soldiers falling into exile.
Darius had openly opposed Darkwell.
But it was all in vain, and he was eventually forced to lead the Northern Frontier Legion to invade Freljord.
"Now that I think about it, Swain might have been behind this!" Darius rubbed his chin and said softly.
He was aware of his influence over the Imperial Legion.
If he had remained in Noxus, Swain's coup would not have gone so smoothly.
At the very least, the troop movements could not be kept secret from him.
Wilson remained silent, looking down at his toes as if something fascinating had caught his attention.
"Alright, Wilson, stop pretending!" Darius tapped the table and said in a deep voice.
"Pass down the order: all officers of centurion rank and above, assemble in the council chamber!"
"Some guys are getting restless!" He glanced at the slightly agitated camp, his tone chilling. "Dare to disobey my orders!"
"Yes, General!" Wilson replied respectfully, his expression hardening, before hurriedly walking away.
In this camp, Darius's orders are absolute, and no one can disobey them.
It is truly ignorant that some people dare to defy convention.
Watching Wilson leave, Darius, who was sitting upright, picked up the letter from the table, and with a slight movement of his fingers, crushed the letter.
"That Draven guy!"
His relationship with Draven was far deeper than most people imagined.
