Noxus Glory
Chapter 2 Chief Erik
Chapter 2 Sergeant Eric
A biting wind swept through the camp, but it couldn't quell the noisy and violent atmosphere.
Looking into the distance, rows of crimson banners fluttered high, adorning the solemn and imposing architectural complex.
Narrow, secluded streets paved with dark blue-green rocks extend in all directions, like a chessboard, dividing the Noxian camp into different functional areas.
Southeast corner of the campsite, rest area.
Huo Jixing silently followed behind DeWitt, walking along the bluestone pavement.
It is common to see Noxian soldiers in full armor brushing past you, or heavy wagons carrying large amounts of goods disappearing around the corner.
Unlike the medieval experiences recorded in my previous life, the Noxian camp had a good sanitation system, without the garbage piles and excrement everywhere I had imagined.
The wide streets and the buildings lining both sides looked clean, tidy, and well-arranged.
However, the monotonous dark gray buildings, along with the solemn and heavy atmosphere, make the camp look more like a formidable castle or a prison, so oppressive that it's hard to breathe.
This was the first time Huo Jixing had taken in the sights of this Noxian camp beneath his feet.
During his previous convalescence, his activities were limited to the house and pharmacy, and he never entered other areas.
After walking another seventy or eighty steps, DeWitt stopped in front of a dark gray three-story building.
Lost in thought, Huo Jixing stopped in time and looked up at the three-story building in front of him. Its architectural style was rugged and similar to the surrounding environment.
However, the menacing battlements distributed along the eaves clearly indicate that this three-story building was constructed as an impregnable fortress.
Squeak!
DeWitt glanced at Hoji Star and reached out to push open the heavy door.
"Phew!" Huo Jixing took a deep breath to adjust his emotions before following DeWitt's steps.
Upon entering the building, he felt his vision darken for a moment, but after a few steps, it returned to normal, revealing a rugged and cold-looking lobby.
As footsteps sounded, several Noxian scouts who were sitting and talking quietly in the room looked up and their sharp eyes swept over them.
Just then, Huo Jixing, whose eyes had just adjusted to the light, caught the gazes of the group and couldn't help but catch his breath.
Crimson armor, indifferent and cold eyes, and an undisguised, imposing aura.
The next instant!
Huo Jixing's mind was flooded with fragments of memories, as if whispering to him that the people in front of him were Noxus elite scouts who had been through countless battles and tasted blood!
DeWitt, seemingly having anticipated this, walked past the group with a calm expression and headed to the center of the room, his back to the tall figure sitting there.
"Chief of the Demi-Men!" DeWitt said respectfully, taking out a parchment scroll and placing it on the table.
The parchment scroll was unfurled, and a steady voice rang out shortly afterward.
"Huo Jixing?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the tall figure, who had been sitting upright, slowly rose up, like a crouching mountain standing upright, bringing an indescribable sense of oppression.
Huo Jixing stared intently, then subconsciously swallowed.
The person in front of me was simply too tall; judging by his height, he was definitely over two meters tall.
"Eric Henta, the centurion of the 73rd Scout Squad."
Eric turned around and introduced himself, his wild eyes scanning over Huo Jixing's arms and legs before he nodded slightly.
"Huo Jixing, you can call me Xing!" Huo Jixing said softly, his eyes lowered.
It was only their first meeting, yet he had already memorized the striking features of the deputy commander, Eric.
His rugged face was weathered by time, and his half-closed eyes were filled with an unspeakable wildness. His tall and strong body, like that of a ferocious tiger, supported his armor and brought an invisible sense of oppression.
"Prepare well. We have a mission in five days, and we need to go to Freljord," Eric said, his gaze falling on DeWitt. "If you have any questions or anything you don't understand, feel free to ask DeWitt."
Freljord!
Upon hearing this, Huo Jixing felt a sharp pain in his head, and a flood of bloody memories flashed before his eyes, causing his heart to sink. He forced his head down and replied, "Yes, Captain!"
"Hmm!" Eric nodded slightly and waved for DeWitt and Hojixing to leave.
The heavy door was closed.
The deep darkness swallowed up the departing figures of DeWitt and Hoji Star.
Eric sat back down at the table, opened the parchment scroll, pondered for a moment, then casually picked up a fine quill pen and began to write.
[Hojistar, Origin: Wanderer, Noxian Soldier.]
[Deployed to the border more than three months ago, and two months ago on a mission to Freljord, they unexpectedly encountered raiders.]
[Quiet and reserved, with decent skills. He recently survived a brush with death, crawling out from a pile of corpses.]
[A qualified scout?!]
As he wrote the last line, Eric was uncertain, because the information provided by the Legion advisors did not offer a specific answer.
"Is he our new team member?"
Behind him, a Noxian scout who had stood up walked over and asked.
"Yes, new member!" Eric put down his quill, nodded, and said in a low, gentle voice, "The war is escalating, and every battle group is short of soldiers. We don't have many options."
"Relatively speaking, Hojixing is alright; at least he lived and fought in Freljord."
The Noxian scouts, who had been somewhat puzzled, suddenly realized that as elites, they didn't need any burdens, but the last mission they had carried out had resulted in the loss of many of their comrades.
Among the many Noxian soldiers being recruited, Hoji Star, a wounded "veteran," was favored by the centurion.
"Moore, keep your movements still. This mission is very important." Eric turned to look at the Noxian scout in front of him and gave him a warning.
"Don't worry, now that he has your approval, I'll talk to the others about it," Moore grinned, patting his chest as if making a guarantee.
Typically, as veterans, they would prepare some games to welcome new members.
But Erik's warning, and the upcoming mission to Freljord, made Mur put aside his thoughts.
As the captain of the scout squad, Eric's orders were absolute and no one could disobey them.
In front of the entrance, there is a bluestone street.
DeWitt turned to look at Huo Jixing, who seemed slightly dazed, and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"It's nothing." Huo Jixing stood on the right side of the street, gently shaking his head, the bloodshot in his eyes gradually disappearing.
Eric's words in the room just now seemed to awaken a part of his past life's memories, causing a large number of bloody images to flood Huo Jixing's mind instantly.
Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a fierce battle that took place when the original body set foot in Freljord!
Heading north from the camp along the Iron Thorn Mountains for seventy or eighty kilometers, you will enter the Freljord region, a polar world covered in ice and snow year-round.
One of the main protagonists in this protracted war, the Winter's Claw tribe, comes from Freljord.
In order to win this war, both the Noxian Empire and the Winter's Claw tribe have invested a great deal of resources, and countless Noxian soldiers and Freljords have been buried in the frozen north.
Its predecessor was one of them!
Furthermore, if Huo Jixing's memory is correct, the highest commander of the Noxian Empire in this war was...
Darius, the Hand of Noxus!
Suppressing the psychological reaction to the bloody scene, Huo Jixing looked at DeWitt and asked, "Where should we go next?"
"Go to the quartermaster station, and I'll give you some equipment."
DeWitt, standing beside him, keenly sensed the change in Hojixing's emotions. His eyes flickered as he recalled the reason for Hojixing's serious injury, which seemed to have occurred in Freljord.
"You're in luck. The war situation has become increasingly intense recently, and the lazy quartermasters have started to work hard, transferring a large amount of ore from Fort Detrick to forge quite a few pieces of armor and weapons of good quality."
DeWitt led Huo Jixing westward, talking about the recent war situation while observing Huo Jixing's emotional changes. Seeing that Huo Jixing was calm, he breathed a sigh of relief.
War and death affect each person differently and are unpredictable.
DeWitt had seen many people who survived the battlefield but could no longer pick up a weapon. They would tremble and collapse to the ground at the mere sound of weapons, bugles, or warhorses.
After careful observation, DeWitt found that Hojixing's speech and behavior were normal and he acted with composure, not like he had been affected by the war, so he was secretly relieved.
