Why did you provoke me?

Chapter 386 The Method is Useful

Secretary Wu and Nangong Tianshou followed Yu Meng to the cafeteria.

"Zhou Jingyan has been infected with a Gu worm." Yu Meng went straight to the point, without hiding anything.

"I don't know if this has anything to do with me. But I need you to investigate what Zhou Jingyan has been through during this time, and whether he has encountered any unusual people."

Secretary Wu was taken aback upon hearing this. "Wait a minute, I think I received a message, something strange. Now that I think about it, it seems to be related to this matter."

Nangong Tianshou and Yu Meng both looked at him.

Secretary Wu coughed lightly. "There was only one address and one name. But the message was sent through Jing Ancheng, so I kept it."

"I'll investigate this matter," Nangong Tianshou replied.

Yu Meng nodded. "Uncle Nangong, I'm truly sorry if this matter involves me."

"It's not your fault. If I hadn't come to you first, this matter might not have been traced back to us." Nangong Tianshou made it very clear.

Yu Meng breathed a sigh of relief. She was really afraid that Nangong Tianshou would resent her because of this.

"Teacher Yu, could you give us a sneak peek?" Secretary Wu asked cautiously from the side.

"Uncle Wu, if my method works, he'll be fine. But if my method doesn't work, then we'll just have to wait."

"What about time? How long can he wait?" Nangong Tianshou finally asked.

"I don't know. If a Gu worm lies dormant, it might be fine for a year or ten years. But if it activates, it might happen in an instant or in three to five days."

Nangong Tianshou closed his eyes. "This child has suffered too much. He lost his mother at a young age and lived with his father. At that time, his father was the clan chief and was so busy that he couldn't take care of him at all. Sometimes he would go hungry for a whole day without his father even knowing."

"If I hadn't seen it one time, this child would probably have starved to death. Can you believe it? The heir of a first-class noble family was about to starve to death."

Secretary Wu looked up at him. "No wonder he's so close to you."

"Yes, I saved him when he was little. I never expected that he would risk his life to save me again when I was about to die last time." Nangong Tianshou said with some emotion.

"We all aspire to be upright and indomitable. But once we fall, we're no different from ordinary people."

Yu Meng ate very quickly, then put down her chopsticks. "Then I'll stand up and not let myself fall down."

"I need to go back to my room to prepare some things. Please make yourselves at home." With that, he left in a hurry.

"Old Wu, is the person who brought Jin Yan back still here?"

"I've arranged top-class rooms for them all. Would you like to go over?"

"In the past," she paused, "did you have any experts in interrogation here?"

"Huh? What are you going to do? Since they were able to send people over, there shouldn't be any problem, right?"

"I want them to tell the whole story, without hiding anything," Nangong Tianshou said in a somber tone.

"Oh, no need for that. I have a secret weapon. Wait a moment, I'll send a message to Jing San and ask him to bring it over."

Nangong Tianshou also remembered that special bracelet.

Yu Meng returned to her room, laid out her lines, and carefully selected them, muttering to herself, "I really lost out this time. If I had known this would happen, I should have grabbed more of other people's lines."

She looked at these weakest lines and sighed. They were the weakest for her, but for others, they would still rank among the top.

Having severed the connection with the lines, Yu Meng sighed again, "What a loss."

But this is the only method she can think of for now. Lines are definitely the best choice for Gu worms.

I put the lines in my small backpack and went back to the ward.

As expected, Aunt Qing and Qian Chuan were both there.

"Yu Meng, you're here." Qingyuan stood up. "I'll go make you a pot of tea."

He gave Qian Chuan a wink, and the two of them left the room together.

Yu Meng did not try to stop him. She took the thread from her backpack and placed it on Zhou Jingyan.

Because the connection is severed, the lines themselves cannot enter the mind on their own.

She took a needle and stabbed it into Zhou Jingyan's heart. In the blink of an eye, a bead of blood appeared, and Yu Meng pressed the line onto the bead of blood.

This method is somewhat passive. But it's the safest way, and Yu Meng doesn't want to get her lines infected with Gu worms while saving people.

Ten minutes passed, and there was still no movement. Yu Meng frowned, looking at the lines under her hand. Then, with one needle, she poked a small hole in the lines.

This time, there was movement in less than a minute. Yu Meng saw a tiny black dot in her right eye, which crawled out along the blood and then burrowed into the small hole in the line.

Yu Meng was overjoyed. It seemed her method had worked.

Yu Meng spent the entire night busy. It wasn't until dawn that she got up and rubbed her lower back.

Pushing open the door, Qingyuan and Qianchuan were still there, as were Nangong Tianjing and Secretary Wu.

No one spoke; they just watched quietly.

"The Gu worm has been removed, but the person is very weak and needs to be well cared for."

"That's good." Nangong Tianshou said softly. He didn't say thank you; that word was too light.

Qingyuan spoke up from the side, "Can we go in and take a look?"

Yu Meng stepped aside and said, "Qian Chuan is a professional at treating illnesses. If you need anything in the future, just ask him."

Qian Chuan nodded from the side, "No problem."

Yu Meng went back to catch up on her sleep.

Nangong Tianshou sat by the bed. The person on the bed looked a little better, and their breathing had become much heavier.

Secretary Wu stood aside and said, "Chief, go and rest. Your body is about to give out after a night like this."

"Yes, Uncle Nangong, you go ahead. I'll come and wake you when he wakes up," Qian Chuan advised from the side.

Just then, Xiao Hao's voice came from the doorway, "Third Grandpa, you go to sleep. I'll stay and watch over Dad."

It turned out that Nian Nian had brought Xiao Hao.

Xiao Hao looked at Nangong Tianshou intently. "Third Grandpa, why don't you go get some sleep? We can switch shifts later."

"Yes, Uncle Nangong, Xiaohao and I will stay here and keep watch. You all go and rest."

After everyone left, Xiao Hao brought over a basin of water, soaked a towel, and first wiped Zhou Jingyan's face, then wiped his hands.

"Xiao Hao, who taught you all this?"

"Dad, whenever Third Grandpa couldn't wake up, you would do this every time you came to see him. He said it would wake him up faster."

Nian Nian was surprised, "It really works?"

"Yes, yes, look, Third Grandpa woke up, and he can walk by himself now."

Niannian rolled her eyes. "That's it? You can fool yourself. Don't try to fool me with this next time."

Xiao Hao looked very serious. "I'm not lying to Auntie, Dad will wake up soon."

"I've already told the cafeteria lady to make some millet porridge for your dad. If he wakes up, bring it to him."

"Thank you, Auntie."

"It's nothing, no need to thank me. After all, I'm your aunt." Niannian waved her hand dismissively.

"I should thank you; I completely forgot to prepare food for my dad."

"Thanks then," Niannian said nonchalantly.
