Why did you provoke me?

Chapter 10 Yu Meng's Dowry for Her Sister

The next morning, when her mother went out, Yu Meng took a fish face and stuffed it into her mother's arms.

Mother Yu asked, puzzled, "Why are you giving me this?"

Yu Meng sighed. "Let her say good things about her sister."

Yu's mother tapped Yu Meng's little head. "You really care about your older sister; you've already asked her twice."

Even after returning home, the eldest sister couldn't stay idle, meticulously cleaning inside and outside the house. It took quite a while for Dali to finish. Before she could even sit down, Yu Meng pulled her to the riverbank.

Finding a secluded spot, Yu Meng squatted down. She tugged at Da Li's hand, urging her to squat down as well.

Then she reached out her hand and pinched a blade of grass. Slowly, she lifted it upwards. A transparent sheet of turf was thus lifted up.

She placed the turf in her other hand. After a while, the turf slowly rolled up in her palm, eventually turning into a small green bead.

Dali's eyes widened in amazement. "Little sister, this is teaching her." After two years of learning, Dali was no longer a novice.

She reached out her hand and slowly channeled the power of the threads in her mind. She gently lifted her hand upwards. Sure enough, a transparent sheet of turf was lifted up with a light touch.

Following her younger sister's example, she placed the turf in her palm as well.

After a while, the turf slowly began to curl, eventually forming a green bead. However, the surface of the bead was uneven and not very perfect.

Yu Meng then repeated the previous movements. In particular, the process of curling the turf in her hands was very slow.

By the time Dali practiced her third ball, her face was already pale and sweat was streaming down her forehead.

Yu Meng grabbed her hand and shook her head.

Dali's eyes are very bright; her little sister is indeed the smartest.

Yu Meng pulled Dali's hand and walked home. "Don't say anything."

Dali nodded. "I understand, it's a secret between us sisters."

Dali's heart melted. Did she have a fairy sister? She had studied at Mr. Zhou's school for two years and still didn't know how to do this.

She looked down at her younger sister walking beside her. Suddenly, she felt that her better days were yet to come.

Back home, Dali put the three green beads she had made into a small box.

Although she didn't know how to make these green beads and had never seen them before, she knew that things made with a second face were very precious.

Mr. Zhou had a string of beads in his hand, which was said to be made from a second face. Dali had seen them before, but those beads weren't green.

Dali took leave to come back this time. Because she already has as many as 10 lines, a mining group in town invited her to join them.

Girls like them are quite popular within the gathering group. With them around, bringing back the gathered goods is just a matter of saving face. Without them, all that's brought back is food, and not even necessarily edible food.

That would be very troublesome. Once a living thing dies, its second face completely disappears. All their efforts would be in vain.

Dali is quite shrewd; she takes two days off every month to go home. Her younger sister always gives her pointers on how to practice.

But this was the first time she had turned what she had drawn into a real object.

The younger sister strung the finished beads together and put them on her wrist, telling her, "It's part of my dowry."

At that moment, Dali suddenly felt an urge to cry. This was not just a dowry; it was the very foundation for her future livelihood.

After a bumpy seven days, Dali finally made herself a green bracelet.

The beads didn't look very appealing, and they were all different sizes, but Dali was happy.

Mr. Yu paid close attention to Meng's actions, and thus he noticed the little tricks the two girls were doing.

So Yu's father found Dali again and repeated what he had said to Yu Meng.

Although Dali is still young, she has already gained two years of experience in society and knows a lot.

Dali looked at her father. "I need to improve. If I keep standing still, they'll abandon me."

Mr. Yu frowned. "You can't just come home and suddenly have this skill."

Dali smiled. "Don't worry, Dad. I'll always find a reasonable excuse to do it."

On Dali's last day before leaving, the two sisters sat at the table reading together. With Yu Meng's help, Dali collected another line.

Ever since Yu Meng woke up in this house, her eldest sister has been the best to her. Her parents are also good to her, but they are always busy working for the family, so they don't really have much time to spend together.

The young man was good to her, but he was a boy, and there were some things he couldn't do with Yu Meng.

During this period, Yu Meng would go for a run with her brother every morning.

Yu Hai really dotes on his little sister. He doesn't ask why Yu Meng wants to do anything; he just follows along.

Sometimes, the two of them would practice frog jumps in the yard. The big tree in the yard was a frequent haunt of theirs. Climbing the tree had become a daily routine for them.

Sometimes, Yu's father would scold his son for being like a monkey, saying he was corrupting his little sister. But Yu Meng was happy with it, so her father didn't forbid it, and her mother often said that a tough child is easy to raise.

Yu Meng had the intention to teach the young man some of the skills she possessed from her previous life, but she was too young and it was difficult to explain their origins. Therefore, she could only let the young man solidify his foundation first, and they could discuss the future when the opportunity arose.

Although the family is poor now, Yu Meng truly feels loved here. The psychological trauma from her previous life is also slowly healing.

Although she hasn't left this courtyard yet, and hasn't gone out to see the real world, she knows it must be extraordinary.

A year later, the older sister finally got engaged to the town mayor's youngest son.

He was two years older than his sister. He had also been a member of a harvesting team, which his brother had formed, and he had received a share of the profits. He had accidentally seen his sister tear off pieces of turf and turn them into green beads, and he had been observing her silently ever since.

Later, he slowly approached his sister. Dali was now 13, and her figure was growing rapidly; her feminine features were beginning to appear, and her face was becoming fair. It was the kind of fair that wouldn't tan even after being in the sun.

When he introduced himself as the mayor's youngest son, Dali became suspicious. She slowly revealed some of the things her younger sister had taught her.

Later, the town mayor and his wife brought their youngest son to the Yu family to propose marriage. Dali then had her younger sister take a close look at him.

Only after Yu Meng nodded did she speak, and thus the two became engaged.

So Yu Meng taught Dali how to make beads from the stone skin that could be pulled off the stone.

Dali studied very diligently. She also made a bracelet out of the black bead and gave it to her fiancé, Jiang Mingfeng.

Jiang Mingfeng received the gift from Dali, a dark bracelet, which he actually found somewhat distasteful.

But when Dali held the bracelet up to eye level, he saw a vibrant, colorful world. The dazzling colors were almost dizzying.
