Chapter 79 Fusu: I know the Six Arts of a Gentleman

"It's been delivered so early?"

Chen Mo rubbed his eyes and opened the courtyard gate, looking at the truckload of goods outside with some surprise.

After he signed the order, he and the driver unloaded the goods from the truck, and then the driver drove away.

Chen Mo stared at the bags of grain and fell into deep thought.

How long will it take him to move all of this?!

Just then, Zhu Biao and Fusu came out one after the other.

Both of them had clearly finished washing up, were neatly dressed, and looked refreshed.

The two of them were stunned when they saw the mountain of sacks piled up outside the courtyard.

"Brother Chen, this is...?"

Zhu Biao's eyes flickered as he looked at the woven bags printed with unfamiliar words such as "high-yield corn" and "virus-free potatoes".

"Is this the high-yield grain you mentioned before?"

Chen Mo nodded, picked up a bag, and walked into the yard.

Zhu Biao and Fusu exchanged a glance and smiled.

"Brother Chen, let us come and help you."

After saying that, Fusu walked to Chen Mo's side, picked up a bag of sweet potatoes with one hand, and his breathing was not disturbed at all.

Zhu Biao, on the other hand, was even more relaxed, carrying two bags of corn at once with ease.

Chen Mo was dumbfounded.

"Wait, you moved this so easily?"

As he spoke, he weighed the grain on his shoulder, feeling its weight, and fell into deep doubt once again.

Upon hearing this, Fusu stopped what he was doing, turned around, and smiled gently at Chen Mo.

He patted the dust off his hands and explained calmly.

"Mr. Chen, you flatter me. It's not that Su and Biao are exceptionally strong; it's simply the foundation of the Six Arts of a gentleman."

"The Six Arts of a Gentleman?"

Chen Mo was taken aback, but then suddenly realized what was happening.

I almost forgot that Fusu was a proper Confucian scholar back then.

He wasn't the kind of weak and incompetent Confucian scholar who came later!

Those are all martial arts practitioners passed down from their ancestor Confucius!

Chen Mo's thoughts drifted away instantly, recalling some "unofficial" historical records about Confucius.

Confucius was nine feet six inches tall (nearly 1.9 meters) and had extraordinary strength, able to open heavy city gates with his bare hands.

What does it mean to "win people over with virtue"?

He took off his loose Confucian robe, revealing the bulging muscles on his back. The lines of those muscles crisscrossed, vaguely forming a magnificent and imposing character "德" (virtue).

Then, with a fist the size of a clay pot, full of "benevolence," he calmly explains to you the principle of "a gentleman seeks harmony without uniformity," until you are enlightened, realize the truth, and are sincerely convinced.

Zilu used to be a hooligan, but after meeting Confucius, he suddenly became honest.

Do you think Zilu became honest just because of so-called benevolence?

What does it mean to travel around the world?

He led a super academic and military delegation of three thousand disciples, including fierce men like Zilu who could fight tigers with his bare hands, as well as a large number of strong men skilled in archery and charioteering, on a friendly visit.

With such a entourage, whichever vassal state they went to, the ruler would have to open the central gate with utmost courtesy and treat them with the highest honors as state guests.

Do you really think people earn their meal tickets by kowtowing and begging?

That was achieved through absolute power, which forced the monarchs of various countries to sit down and listen carefully to his doctrine of "benevolent governance".

In chaotic times, unarmed schools of thought were quickly crushed by the chaotic army.

Thinking of this, Chen Mo recalled another layer of meaning in the Analects.

"Since we're here, let's make the best of it."

Since we're here, let's bury us here.

A gentleman is not a vessel.

A true gentleman cannot be proficient in only one weapon! He must be skilled in a variety of weapons, including swords, spears, halberds, axes, hooks, and forks!

"At thirty, one stands firm; at forty, one is free from doubt; at fifty, one knows the mandate of Heaven."

I'd only stand up and fight if there were thirty people; if forty people charged at me, I wouldn't hesitate (I'd start fighting right away).

Fifty people? Hmph, now I realize it was fate that sent me to deal with you all today!

"If I hear the Way in the morning, I can die content in the evening."

If I find out the way to your house in the morning, you're dead by tonight!

"While your parents are alive, do not travel far; if you must travel, do so with a clear purpose."

My parents are still alive, so I don't easily go far away to kill. But if I absolutely have to go out (to kill), then I'll definitely have the right way to kill you!

"Education for all"

Whoever fights me, I won't make any difference in how you die.

So don't think that Confucianism is no good.

It just didn't work out later on; the Confucian disciples of the early period were truly capable of teaching you how to be a person.

So, with the help of Fusu and Zhu Biao, especially Fusu, the pile of things was quickly moved into the courtyard.

Looking at the neatly arranged grain seeds in the yard, he began to introduce them to Zhu Biao and Fusu.

He walked up to the first sack, untied the knot, and grabbed a handful of golden corn kernels.

"First of all, this is called corn."

He spread the corn kernels out in his palm to show them.

"Look, the grains are plump and golden in color. This stuff has many advantages: it's drought-resistant, doesn't require much soil, and can be grown on hillsides and infertile land, unlike rice which is so water-intensive."

"As for yield, with proper management, it's not a problem to get more than ten shi per mu. There are also many ways to eat it. You can boil the whole corn cob and eat it, or you can grind it into powder to make cakes or steamed buns. It can be eaten by people, and it can also be used as concentrated feed for livestock. The straw can also be used to feed cattle and for fuel. You can say that every part of it is valuable."

Zhu Biao looked carefully at the corn kernels, lost in thought.

"If this method were promoted in the arid north, it could make up for the insufficient millet production and save countless lives."

Fusu carefully picked up a few grains, feeling their hard texture.

"If this item is used as military rations, it is easy to carry and store, which would be of great benefit to long expeditions."

Chen Mo nodded, walked to the second box, and took out a few unassuming potatoes covered in mud.

"The second one is the potato, also called a potato."

"Don't let its rustic appearance fool you, it's a real 'underground treasure'."

He gestured with his hands to indicate the name.

"It's a tuber that grows in the soil, and it has an extremely high yield, often reaching twenty or thirty shi (a unit of dry measure). It's very filling, keeps well, and can be eaten as a vegetable or a staple food. It can be boiled, roasted, stewed, or stir-fried."

"However, one thing to note is that sprouted potatoes are poisonous and should not be eaten. They should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated place."

Zhu Biao picked up a potato, weighed it in his hand, and couldn't hide the shock in his eyes.

"If this crop can truly be produced in such high quantities, the famine across the land can be alleviated!"

Fusu was deeply moved.

"If the Qin border troops and laborers could have this to sustain them, why worry about the Great Wall not being broken or the roads not being passable?"

Then, Chen Mo picked up a sweet potato and broke off a vine.

"This is a sweet potato, also called a yam. Like potatoes, it is an underground tuber, and its yield is comparable to that of potatoes, and it is even more tolerant of poor soil."

He pointed to the vines.

"Look at this vine, it's incredibly resilient. Just cut a section and stick it in the soil, and it will grow. Sweet potatoes themselves are sweet and delicious; they can be used to make porridge, roasted, or dried. The leaves are also a great dish. Like potatoes and corn, it's a high-yield, life-saving crop."

Finally, Chen Mo pointed to the bag of seeds that was sealed best.

"This is a hybrid rice variety."

"It is different from the rice you have now. It was obtained through special breeding methods and has hybrid vigor. It grows stronger, has larger ears, and more grains."

"As long as water and fertilizer are adequate and management is meticulous, its yield can reach two or three times or even more than your best rice varieties."

"It's a pity you don't have chemical fertilizers and herbicides, otherwise the yield could be increased."

"at last……"
