Hogwarts' Golden Glory
Chapter 5 Choosing a Wand
Meanwhile, in another part of Diagon Alley, the Malfoy family, having already purchased their textbooks, slowly arrived in front of Ollivanders wand shop.
In the magical world, the wand is undoubtedly one of the most crucial items for a wizard.
A high-quality wand can unleash a wizard's magical power many times over, and many profound and complex spells can only be cast with the help of a wand.
It's no wonder that Voldemort was so obsessed with the Elder Wand and would stop at nothing to possess it.
Ollivanders Wand Shop looked small and dilapidated, with a wand sitting alone on a faded purple cushion in the window, looking rather forlorn.
The gold lettering on the door has faded and peeled off, but you can still vaguely make out the words: "Olivendine, making fine wands since 382 BC".
The dilapidated appearance of the shop seems somewhat mismatched with its illustrious reputation in the magical world, but it also proves that it is indeed an old shop that has weathered the vicissitudes of time.
The moment the Malfoys stepped through the store door, a crisp bell rang.
What came into their view was a cramped room filled with boxes of all sizes.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Malfoy!" An elderly man with a full head of silver hair suddenly slid down a sliding staircase and appeared in front of everyone. He was Ollivander.
In Kane's view, the so-called "pure-blood" designation of the Twenty-Eight Holy Pure-Blood Families was rather undeserved.
Take Ollivander, for example; his mother was a Muggle.
Compared to those extreme pure-blood families, the Malfoy family has its own unique characteristics; they do not advocate consanguineous marriage.
Like the Gaunt family, due to long-term inbreeding, family members are not only ugly in appearance, but also have eccentric and irritable personalities.
In reality, although the Malfoy family did not practice consanguineous marriage, the women they married were all from other pure-blood families.
Strictly speaking, Harry and the Weasleys are related to the Malfoy family in some way, and in others in some way.
The Malfoy family's titles and lands were originally granted by Muggles, and they also have many business dealings with Muggles.
The Weasley family, due to their close association with Muggles, were regarded as traitors to the purebloods by extreme pureblood advocates.
This shows that Kane's so-called pure-blood status is completely insignificant.
Even Voldemort, the figure regarded as a leader by the supporters of pure-blood families, wasn't he a half-blood?
Ultimately, in this magical world, strength is the key factor that truly determines everything.
"Good morning, Master Lucius. You've cleverly hidden the wand inside the staff. That's truly ingenious."
Ollivander stood on the ladder, his gaze fixed on Lucius's serpentine silver cane, a look of reminiscence on his face.
"Good morning, Mr. Ollivander. I've come to choose wands for my two children." Lucius bowed slightly and greeted the old man on the ladder.
Although the Ollivander family is now somewhat impoverished, Lucius knows that the foundation laid by a pure-blood family cannot be dissipated overnight.
"I still remember the scene when Mr. Lucius came here to choose a wand, it's as if it happened yesterday. It was an 18-inch wand, made of elm wood, with a dragon heartstring core, capable of releasing powerful dark magic."
As Ollivander spoke, he glanced at Kane and Draco, a hint of scrutiny in his eyes.
"These two kids need wands, right? Who wants to measure them first?"
Everyone's eyes darted back and forth between Kane and Draco. Before anyone else could speak, Draco stepped forward and said loudly, "I'll measure first."
Kane nodded in satisfaction at Draco's initiative, thinking to himself: It seems that his usual teaching has been quite effective.
"Young Master Draco, may I ask which hand you prefer? Your left or your right?" Ollivander asked the blond, blue-eyed boy in a gentle and patient tone.
"My right hand!" Draco answered crisply.
……
After asking a series of detailed questions, Ollivander turned to the mountain of boxes, took out wands one after another, and handed them to Draco to try waving.
After some deliberation, Draco's wand was finally chosen.
As expected, it was a wand made of hawthorn wood with a unicorn hair core. It was ten inches long, with moderate elasticity, and could reliably exert magical power.
When it was Kane's turn, everyone was looking forward to seeing what kind of wand he would get, including Kane himself.
"Young Master Kane, may I ask you..." Ollivander was about to ask about his dominant hand when Kane answered without hesitation: "My left hand."
"What a clever child."
Ollivander nodded slightly, a hint of approval flashing in his eyes, and then began to carefully measure the dimensions of various parts of Kane's body, his movements skillful and precise.
After taking the measurements, he turned and walked toward the rows of mysterious wand boxes, as if searching for something special.
A moment later, Ollivander returned, holding a wand, his expression showing a mixture of solemnity and anticipation.
"This one, thirteen inches long, is made of yew wood, with a dragon heartstring core. It can unleash extremely powerful dark magic and has always been a coveted wand among many dark wizards!"
As he spoke, he handed the wand to Kane.
The moment Kane touched the wand, black light surged around it, like mysterious fireworks blooming in the night sky. As the light flickered, a deep and majestic dragon's roar seemed to echo in the small shop, stirring awe in everyone present.
"Oh, my Merlin! This wand was made just for you!"
Ollivander's eyes widened, his face filled with amazement and joy.
In his long career of wand making, such a precise match on the first try was rare, and he had a vague premonition that the wand's future glory might not be inferior to that of the wands of the top wizards.
However, Kane frowned slightly, a hint of doubt and dissatisfaction in his eyes.
For some reason, he always had a feeling that although this wand looked incredibly powerful, it was not the one that resonated most with his soul.
“Mr. Ollivander,” Kane said, his gaze firm and sincere as he looked directly at the master wandmaker, “would you allow me to choose my own wand?”
His tone was calm, but it subtly conveyed an undeniable determination.
At this moment, in this shop full of wands, Kane clearly felt a mysterious force calling to him softly from a corner. The voice seemed to pass through layers of wand boxes and drill straight into his heart, making it impossible for him to ignore.
"Sir, it is the wand that chooses the wizard, not the other way around."
Ollivander's expression quickly turned displeased, and his words became somewhat agitated. After all, the idea of choosing a wizard for their wand had been a long-standing family tradition, and now a young wizard actually wanted to choose his own wand.
Remember, a wand is a wizard's companion, not a child's toy!
