Time Travel: My Comfortable Life After Going to the Countryside
Chapter 207 I'll make sure you can't get out of bed, okay?
In the afternoon, we were assigned to dormitories.
The trainees all lived in a three-story building behind the hospital, with six people in each room.
Liu Xiangyang and Wang Dazhu were assigned to room 206, along with students from other classes.
Wang Dazhu entered the room and began making the bed, muttering as he did so, "A six-person room, it's a bit cramped, but it'll be lively with lots of people."
Liu Xiangyang looked at the narrow wooden bed and frowned.
He turned and walked out.
"Hey, where are you going?" Wang Dazhu called out.
"I need to ask a teacher something." After leaving the dormitory building, Liu Xiangyang walked around the courtyard but didn't see anything that looked like an office.
Just as I was hesitating, a female doctor in a white coat, around thirty years old, wearing glasses, and carrying a medical record folder walked over.
Liu Xiangyang quickly took two steps forward to greet him: "Comrade, excuse me."
The female doctor stopped and looked up at him.
Her gaze fell on his face, she paused, and her tone softened slightly: "What is it?"
"I'm a trainee in the barefoot doctor training program who's here today," Liu Xiangyang said. "I'd like to ask which department is in charge of our group of trainees? I'd like to ask for leave."
The female doctor smiled and said, "You are under the jurisdiction of Teacher Zhang from the logistics department. She's on the first floor of the office building; there's a sign on her door." She pointed in a direction, "Go east from here, and it's the third house in that row of bungalows."
Liu Xiangyang thanked him.
The female doctor waved her hand, took two steps, then looked back at him, thinking to herself, "This young man is really handsome."
The door to the logistics department's office was open.
Liu Xiangyang knocked on the door.
"Please come in."
Pushing open the door, I saw a woman in her forties sitting inside. She had short hair, wore arm sleeves, and was organizing a stack of documents. She looked up and her gaze fell on Liu Xiangyang's face.
Liu Xiangyang walked in: "Hello, Teacher Zhang, I am Liu Xiangyang, a trainee who came to register for the training course today. I would like to ask you for leave."
Dr. Zhang put down the documents, looked him up and down, and spoke in a softer tone than before:
"You took leave on the first day, did something happen?"
Liu Xiangyang said, "I have a relative in Harbin. I thought I could stay at her place, so I left all my bedding at home. Now I only have a board on the bed, so I can't sleep at night. I want to go back and get some bedding and come back tomorrow morning."
Dr. Zhang nodded, her gaze still lingering on his face, a slight smile playing on her lips:
"You have to take it, you can't sleep on that bed board all night." She picked up a pen and scribbled a few lines on a sticky note. "Okay, I'll approve your leave. Be there tomorrow morning, don't miss roll call."
She handed the sick leave slip to Liu Xiangyang.
Liu Xiangyang took the leave slip and thanked him repeatedly, saying, "Thank you, Teacher Zhang. I promise I won't be late."
Dr. Zhang smiled at him, her tone carrying a hint of elder-like concern.
"Young man, study hard. It's not easy for the organization to give you this opportunity. You'll be trained for three months. Once you've mastered the skills, you can go back and solve big problems for your fellow villagers."
Liu Xiangyang nodded: "Thank you, Teacher Zhang. I'll remember that and study hard. I'll be going now."
"Okay, go ahead."
Liu Xiangyang turned around and responded.
Once outside, the hallway was quiet.
He folded the leave slip, put it in his pocket, and strode out.
The sun was already setting in the west, and Chen Jie was still waiting for him at home.
When Liu Xiangyang arrived at Chen Jie's house on his bicycle, she had already returned home from get off work and was busy in the kitchen.
Hearing the sound of the courtyard gate, Chen Jie quickly wiped her hands on her apron and hurried out to greet them.
"You're back?" She smiled, her eyes sparkling, and took the empty lunchbox from Liu Xiangyang's hand. "How was your day? Did registration go smoothly?"
Liu Xiangyang parked the car and followed her inside: "It's alright, everything went smoothly."
Chen Jie went behind him and helped him take off his coat, asking as she did so, "Are the others easy to get along with?"
Liu Xiangyang let her fiddle with it, laughing as he said, "It's all fine. Don't you even know who your man is?"
"Look at you, so capable." Chen Jie hung up his coat, then squatted down to untie his shoelaces and help him put on slippers. "What did you have for lunch? Are you used to the cafeteria food?"
Liu Xiangyang watched her squatting at his feet, busy with something, and reached out to touch her face.
"That can't compare to your cooking skills. I'm so grateful for the food you brought me, otherwise I would have gone hungry."
Chen Jie looked up at him, and the corners of her mouth curved up.
Then she stood up, leaned closer, and asked in a low voice:
"So... you'll be living at home from now on?"
Liu Xiangyang paused for a moment when he saw her expectant eyes.
"...I might have to stay in the dormitory."
Chen Jie's smile froze for a moment.
"A dormitory? Didn't we agree that I'd stay at home?"
Liu Xiangyang pulled her hand and held it in his palm: "The hospital is going to manage everything in a unified way. The dormitories have all been assigned. I made up an excuse that I didn't bring my bedding, so I took leave to come back and get it. I have to move in tomorrow."
Chen Jie didn't speak, her eyes lowered.
Liu Xiangyang could sense her unhappiness.
"Then..." she said softly, "What about the weekend? Can you come back on the weekend?"
"I can come back as soon as I have a holiday. Even if the hospital doesn't close, I still have to come back to see my godmother."
Chen Jie nodded, but still didn't look up; her mood had improved a little.
Liu Xiangyang reached out and lifted her chin, noticing that her eyes were a little red, but she held back her tears.
His heart softened for a moment.
"What's wrong? It's just a dorm room, it's not like I'm not coming back."
Chen Jie sniffed, her voice muffled: "I know, but it's only three months, I'm just worried about the time..."
She paused, then didn't continue.
Liu Xiangyang pulled her into his arms and kissed her on the forehead.
"I'm just worried about what might happen to the time?"
Chen Jie nestled in his arms, and after a while whispered:
"I'm just afraid that I won't have enough time on the day off." She blushed even more after saying that.
Liu Xiangyang was stunned for a moment, then hugged her tighter.
"Are you stupid?" He lowered his head and whispered in her ear, "Three months, one day off a week, that's twelve days. At worst, I'll make sure you can't get out of bed for a whole day during your vacation, is that alright?"
Chen Jie froze for a moment in his arms, then she raised her hand and gently punched him.
"rogue."
Liu Xiangyang smiled, grabbed her hand, and looked into her beautiful eyes as he spoke.
"I guarantee I'll complete the task, okay? Just don't complain later."
Chen Jie didn't say anything, but buried herself in his arms, her ears slowly turning red.
After a long while, she finally gave a muffled "hmm".
Chen Jie cooked four dishes for dinner.
Liu Xiangyang ate very quickly, and she sat beside him watching, occasionally putting a piece of food into his bowl with her chopsticks.
"Eat slowly, no one's going to take it from you."
With his mouth full, Liu Xiangyang mumbled, "I need to eat more, I still have to work hard in the fields tonight."
Chen Jie smiled and didn't say anything, but just put another piece of meat in his bowl.
The night outside the window slowly deepened.
The lamplight fell warmly on the food on the table.
