Chapter 5 Losing Money
Ye Tian was looking at the past winning lottery numbers on the wall when he heard this. He stopped what he was doing, didn't turn around, and said in a somewhat indifferent voice:
"How did you know? Did you see it?"
Lin Fu's heart tightened, and he quickly said, "There's no evidence. It's just... when you mentioned heroin just now, Kun Ge's reaction... was off. His eyes were panicked, and his face changed. He didn't seem like he was alright."
Ye Tian was silent for a few seconds, then let out a soft breath: "I'll find an opportunity to talk to him about it. That road is a cliff, we can't go that way."
He turned his head and looked at Lin Fu with a deep gaze. "You remember this too, you absolutely cannot touch that stuff. If you do, you'll be ruined, and your whole family will be finished."
Lin Fu nodded quickly, his tone resolute: "Brother Tian, don't worry, I absolutely won't touch it! Back home, fifty grams is enough for target practice, I value my life."
Ye Tian grunted in agreement, said nothing more, walked to the counter, and said to the clerk inside, "Combination bet. Combination numbers: 1, 7, 33, 40, 45. Cover all other numbers. 100x odds."
The system provides third-prize numbers, and the prize money is limited if you buy them directly. However, by using the combination betting method, as long as you get some of these key numbers and combine them with other variable numbers, you can significantly increase the prize multiplier.
The clerk typed away on the machine for a while, then printed out a long lottery ticket: "Sir, that's forty-four thousand yuan in total."
Ye Tian pulled out his bank card, swiped it, and signed it, his movements swift and decisive.
Lin Fu, standing nearby, swallowed hard: "Brother Tian... over forty thousand... what if we don't win..."
Ye Tian carefully placed the folded lottery ticket into the inner pocket of his wallet and zipped it up: "The opportunity is right here. Whether you take it or not is up to you."
Lin Fu looked troubled and scratched his head: "Brother Tian, I don't have much money... I sent most of my salary back home. I... I'll bet once, without doubling down, is that okay?"
Ye Tian gave him 20,000 yuan a month, which was the top salary in the gang. But Lin Fu was family-oriented and sent all the money back to his hometown, living frugally. A single bet without doubling down cost more than 400 yuan, which was no small sum for him. In fact, he was just like Liang Kun, not really believing he could win. He only bet on Ye Tian out of trust and obedience.
Seeing his distressed expression, Ye Tian found it amusing and patted him on the shoulder: "Don't worry, this money won't be wasted."
Lin Fu chuckled awkwardly, went to the window and bought the same ticket. He carefully folded the thin piece of paper in half, stuffed it into the inner pocket of his shirt, and even pressed it down.
Ye Tian said no more: "Let's go, let's go check out the place."
The nights in Yau Tsim Mong present a different face. Neon lights paint the streets with flowing colors, music, laughter, and engine noise mingle together, and the air is filled with the scents of alcohol, perfume, and various foods and desires. It's a crowded, chaotic, and unregulated place, a paradise for shady dealings and a breeding ground for prostitution.
Mong Kok is Hung Hing's territory, and Yip Tin, as the most prominent henchman under Leung Kwan and the actual operator of several profitable businesses, has a great reputation here. As he walked along, people kept nodding and bowing to greet him, calling him "Brother Tin" and "Brother Fu" incessantly.
Ye Tian simply nodded, his steps unwavering, exuding an aura that made people hesitant to approach him.
They entered the "Drunken Life, Dreamlike Death" nightclub. This was one of Ye Tian's most profitable establishments, heavily renovated and always bustling with business. The manager, quick-witted, immediately greeted them with a beaming smile.
"Brother Tian, Brother Fu! Please come in, we've saved you a seat!"
Ye Tian waved his hand: "Same spot as always, keep it quiet. Just bring me some drinks."
"Okay!"
The two had just sat down in a corner booth, before their drinks even arrived, when a commotion suddenly arose from the doorway. Several men in plainclothes walked in, their sharp eyes scanning the room. The leader, a tall, broad-shouldered, and fierce-looking man, was Ma Jun from the West Kowloon Serious Crimes Unit.
"Police, routine ID check. Please cooperate." Ma Jun's voice was curt.
The patrons in the club weren't surprised and readily pulled out their IDs. Ye Tian and Lin Fu didn't pay any attention and waited for their drinks.
Suddenly, a sharp "bang" rang out! It sounded like a glass bottle shattering.
Ye Tian and Lin Fu looked over at the same time. They saw a young man with dyed yellow hair and wearing a floral shirt grab a beer bottle from the table, smash it on the edge of the table, and then, holding the remaining jagged bottle neck, swing it at the back of the head of a plainclothes policeman whose back was to him!
Caught off guard, the policeman suffered a gash on his forehead, and blood immediately gushed out, covering half of his face.
Ma Jun roared, "Stop!" and lunged forward.
The blond-haired man, however, went berserk, brandishing broken glass bottles and wrestling with several policemen who surrounded him.
Lin Fu's expression changed, and he was about to get up. But Ye Tian reached out and pressed his arm down.
"Brother Tian, if we don't do something, the place will be smashed!" Lin Fu said anxiously.
Ye Tian smiled knowingly and slowly shook his head: "What's the rush? If someone's willing to act, let's just treat it as a show."
"Call Superintendent Chan Yan-kin of the West Kowloon Headquarters. Tell him that his subordinate, Officer Ma Kwan, had a serious conflict with a customer at my legally operated premises, damaging property and disturbing customers, and ask him to come and handle the situation immediately."
"I'll call lawyer Jiang Chengyu again and ask him to send his best legal counsel. I want to sue Ma Jun personally, as well as the police for improper law enforcement, and seek compensation for economic losses."
Lin Fu was stunned: "Brother Tian...aren't you going to stop him? What if someone gets killed?"
Ye Tian scoffed, "They chose this approach themselves. We're legitimate business people, welcoming customers and valuing harmony. They don't want me to do business in peace, so why should I give them face?"
Although Lin Fu didn't understand, he nodded and did as instructed, then got up and went to a quiet place to make a phone call.
Ye Tian leaned back on the sofa, calmly observing the chaos in the center of the room. His gaze, however, drifted intentionally or unintentionally to another corner.
There sat three men, dark-skinned, muscular, and with fierce expressions. They seemed oblivious to the fight unfolding before them, drinking their wine and occasionally glancing at the scene with a cold, appraising look.
The three Vietnamese brothers. Ye Tian narrowed his eyes, already understanding the situation.
Not long after, Lin Fu returned: "Brother Tian, I made the call. Superintendent Chen said he'll be there soon. Attorney Jiang has also sent people, they're already on their way."
"Hmm." Ye Tian nodded, stood up, and said, "We've had enough of the show. Let's go, it's our turn."
Lin Fu followed him into the arena, his expression a little strange: "Brother Tian, their fight... it looks a bit fake. They look fierce, but they're not hitting any vital points."
Fighting is extremely physically demanding, especially hand-to-hand combat, and the outcome is usually decided within a few minutes. It's rare to see a fight that lasted almost ten minutes and was still "evenly matched."
Ye Tian smiled and said, "They're testing each other, neither wanting to take the blame. That's fine, it saves us from getting killed and causing trouble."
When the two approached, Ma Jun and the blond-haired man were already panting heavily, their faces were bruised, and their movements were noticeably slower.
Ye Tian took the microphone from a waiter, tested the sound, and then spoke. His voice carried through the speakers throughout the somewhat messy hall:
"Everyone, I'm sorry. There was a small accident tonight that spoiled your fun."
"As an apology, all meals tonight are on the house."
"Everyone present, if you were frightened or injured by the chaos just now, please register with our manager. We will cover your medical expenses and provide additional compensation."
"Now, please leave in an orderly manner. We need to clean up and handle the aftermath."
