After transmigrating into the body of the Jade Rat Spirit, I became Nezha's adopted sister.
Chapter 88 Strange Events from Above
Bai Yeying followed his gaze and sensed the spiritual power contained within the halo, as well as the pulsating ancient aura.
"Is that what you're looking for?" she asked softly, gripping the short gun hidden in her sleeve.
"Perhaps." Nezha's answer was ambiguous, his gaze sweeping over the lingering demonic figures in the distance. "The commotion was quite significant, attracting rather a lot of attention."
The two made no effort to conceal their presence, especially Nezha, whose red robes and silver armor were far too conspicuous in the desolate wilderness. Soon, the gathered demon horde stirred, and many eyes turned towards them with suspicion and fear.
"It's Nezha, the Third Prince!" one of the more knowledgeable demons exclaimed in a low voice, his voice filled with fear.
"Why is he here? Is the Heavenly Court also getting involved in the affairs of Beiju Luzhou?"
"Who's that woman next to him? Her aura isn't weak, but she seems to be a rat demon?"
Whispers spread among the demons, and the previously calm atmosphere suddenly tensed up with the arrival of Nezha. This great god of the Three Altars and Seas had earned his reputation among the demons of the Three Realms through sheer force of battle.
Just then, the demons parted to make way, and a giant man of unusual height, wearing rough animal skin and with a pair of curved black horns on his forehead stepped out from the crowd.
He had a rugged face and a deep, resonant aura, clearly indicating that he possessed profound cultivation and was the leader among this group of demons.
The burly man with black horns stopped ten zhang away from Nezha, clasped his hands in a salute, and spoke in a loud, booming voice, yet with a cautious, probing tone: "Xi Kui, the leader of the Black Rhinoceros tribe in Beiju Luzhou, greets the Third Prince. May I ask what brings the Third Prince to this bitterly cold land? Have you also come to investigate the unusual activity in this secluded rift?"
He referred to himself as a tribal leader, not a mountain demon king, subtly indicating that he was not a rootless drifter in this place, but had a tribe to rely on, and his words were neither humble nor arrogant.
Nezha crossed his arms, raised an eyebrow slightly upon hearing this, glanced at Xi Kui, and said in his usual nonchalant tone, "Just passing by, seeing what's going on. What, your Black Rhinoceros tribe has taken over this place?"
Xi Kui's expression stiffened slightly, and he quickly said, "Third Prince, you jest. This rift is a natural phenomenon that suddenly appeared here. The aura emanating from it is ancient and complex, and it may contain ancient treasures, or it may harbor dangers. My Black Rhinoceros tribe is merely investigating because we are nearby, to guard against any unforeseen circumstances. We have absolutely no intention of monopolizing it. However..."
He paused, looking at the crack in the stone mountain, his expression grave: "However, this crevice is extremely unstable, with violent spiritual energy inside. Several impatient fellow cultivators have rashly ventured in, and none have emerged yet. Third Prince, you possess great supernatural powers; if you intend to investigate, please be careful."
These words were polite, pointing out the danger while also subtly reminding Nezha not to act recklessly because of his abilities, lest he cause even greater trouble.
Nezha scoffed, "I don't need you to remind me."
He turned to look at Bai Yeying beside him and saw that she was looking at Xi Kui and the demons behind him with her big, round almond-shaped eyes. He said, "Stay close and don't look around."
Bai Yeying said "Oh," looked away, and obediently took another half step closer to him, almost touching his arm.
She felt more gazes coming from all around her, some curious, some inquisitive, and some even hostile.
Her palms were slightly sweaty as she gripped the gun, not out of fear, but out of excitement.
This is much more exciting than the days in Trapped Mountain!
Seeing Nezha's cold attitude, Xi Kui said no more, clasped his hands in greeting again, and led his men back into the demon horde, but kept his eyes on this side.
"The Hidden Rift, an ancient treasure?" Bai Yeying lowered her voice, tugging at Nezha's sleeve. "Is there really treasure inside? Could it be dangerous?"
Nezha glanced down at her: "Scared?"
"No way!" Bai Yeying immediately straightened her back. "I was just asking. Is what you're looking for inside?"
"I'm not sure. But since we're already here, we should at least go in and take a look." Nezha gazed at the deep crack, his eyes filled with inquiry. "The pattern of this pulsation is quite interesting. You wait outside, I..."
"I don't want to!" Bai Yeying interrupted him before he could finish, grabbing his sleeve tightly. "You promised to show me around! It sounds so dangerous in there, how can I feel at ease letting you go in alone... No, I mean, two people can look out for each other!"
Nezha was taken aback by her anxious appearance, then a smile appeared on his lips: "Take care of me? With your abilities, not causing me any trouble is considered taking care of me."
Even so, he did not insist that she stay outside. The flames of his Wind-Fire Wheels flickered slightly as he flew slowly toward the crevice in the rocky mountain.
"Stay close. If you can't hold on, or if you see anything wrong, back off immediately. Don't push yourself," he instructed, his tone unusually serious.
"Mmm!" Bai Yeying nodded vigorously, circulating her demonic power within her body to its optimal state, and then followed suit.
The two's actions immediately attracted the attention of all the demons. Rhinoceros King's pupils constricted as he stared intently at their backs.
"Boss, are they really going in?" a subordinate whispered.
Xi Kui said in a deep voice, "Let's wait and see. Nezha's strength is unfathomable; perhaps he can figure out the truth about this rift. If he gains something... we can then make further plans. If he gets trapped inside... well, that's not necessarily a bad thing for us."
Under the watchful eyes of all the demons, Nezha, carrying Bai Yeying, flew into the deep, glowing crevice without hesitation.
Upon entering, the light suddenly dimmed, with only the light emanating from the depths of the crack providing illumination. A violent aura rushed towards them, almost suffocating them.
The surrounding rock walls exhibited an unnatural twisted state, and what was even more unsettling was the omnipresent spatial fluctuations, sometimes stable and sometimes chaotic, as if the spatial structure of this area itself was extremely unstable.
Bai Yeying instinctively gripped Nezha's arm tightly and whispered, "Here? This feels so strange."
Nezha remained calm, the Fire-Tipped Spear already silently appearing in his hand, a spark of spiritual flame igniting at its tip, illuminating an area of about ten feet in front of him: "The remnants of a spatial rift, mixed with the aura of an ancient battlefield. Be careful, don't touch anything, especially anything that glows."
The deeper they went, the more violent the spatial fluctuations became. At times, they felt gravity reversed, and at other times, they felt the surrounding scenery stretched and distorted. Occasionally, violent streams of spiritual energy would sweep past like blades, but Nezha would easily deflect them with a swing of his spear.
Bai Yeying was secretly amazed, and at the same time, she became even more focused, closely following Nezha's steps, not daring to make the slightest mistake.
After walking for about the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, the path suddenly opened up, revealing a cave. In the center of the cave, a ball of light was suspended.
Around the light source, several skeletons of various shapes and sizes were scattered, some new and some old, some still retaining traces of spiritual energy fluctuations, clearly the remains of those who had broken in not long ago.
In a corner of the cave, on a stone platform, lies something quietly.
It was a fragment about the size of a palm, made of neither gold nor jade, with mysterious patterns on it.
The fragment itself possessed a restrained aura, and would almost be overlooked without careful observation. But Nezha instantly looked at it.
"Found it," he whispered.
Bai Yeying also saw the fragment. Although she didn't know exactly what it was, it must be something extraordinary that Nezha had come specifically to find: "Is it this?"
"Hmm," Nezha responded, and was about to step forward.
Suddenly, something unexpected happened!
