Who moved her body?

Chapter 9: The beach at dawn wasn't that beautiful, was it?

Diro first built a bridge spanning the sea between the city of Desolate Rock and Desolate Rock Island, and then built a world-class viewing platform in the middle of the bridge.

The platform is like a sky garden on the sea. The first floor is an observation deck, the second floor is a restaurant, the third to fifth floors are a hotel, and the sixth floor, which is also the top floor, is a VIP area with an observation deck and dining bar.

The first floor is free, but the prices on the upper floors are extremely high. However, no one who comes to Wasteland City for vacation will miss this place, although the difference is that some people only go to the first floor while others go to the upper floors.

The section of the cross-sea bridge connecting Huangyan City to the viewing platform has eight lanes in both directions, ensuring smooth traffic even during peak tourist season. The parking lot at the viewing platform also serves as a large U-turn area, as visitors must stop there; the other side of the viewing platform is not open to tourists.

The cross-sea bridge between the viewing platform and the desolate rock island has two lanes in each direction without a median barrier. A large automatic gate connects the viewing platform to this section of the bridge, and two more manually guarded iron gates line the road leading to the desolate rock island side. A sign with yellow warning words hangs on the outermost iron gate: "Tourists Prohibited!"

And so, the once deserted island was transformed into a private territory off-limits to tourists.

This is the allure of money; it is money that has given the barren rock island a life beyond the reach of most, and it is money that has made the barren rock city a world-renowned resort destination.

Guan Jie gazed at the outline of the desolate rock island. The sea bridge connecting the shore and the island lay quietly, letting the waves crash against it. The streetlights drifted through the mist, casting white patches of light at his feet, a continuous line of white stretching from the island all the way to the shore.

The streetlights on the shore were much dimmer, their yellowish hue somewhat comforting on certain days, but unpleasant in the misty early morning, like the nausea and discomfort of a hangover.

Guan Jie pulled a cigarette pack from his pocket, inside which was a lighter. He held the filter between his teeth, cupped his hands around the flame to light the cigarette, took a deep drag, and waited for the cigarette to flash red sparks. Then he put the lighter back into the cigarette pack and put the pack back in his pocket.

Looking from Guan Jie's direction, the best viewpoints on the beach were occupied by several star-rated hotels. Clearly, if the sea were a never-ending stage play, then these hotels would be the VIP audience members.

In front of the hotel, between the hotel and the beach, is a commercial street that stretches along both sides of the beach. At three o'clock in the morning, after the tourists have left and before the cleaners have started their shifts, every trash can in the corner is overflowing, creating a perfect contrast with the colorful neon lights flashing on the street.

Faint music could be heard, carried by the drowsy sea breeze. "Maybe it's some 24-hour bar," Guan Jie thought.

The first cigarette ash fell, and red sparks flickered again. Guan Jie exhaled a puff of smoke, so thick that it was clearly distinguishable from the water vapor. However, in just a few seconds, everything was swallowed up by the water vapor again.

Guan Jie turned his head and focused his gaze once again on the desolate rocky island, which was about seven kilometers from the shore. This was official data.

The sea bridge connecting Huangyan Island to the shore is not a straight line but a precise S-shape, as seen from the air. The viewing platform is built in the middle of this S-shape.

The most beautiful white sand beaches in Wildrock City are scattered on both sides of the approach bridge to the sea, which passes over the beaches, forming a natural shaded area. People who like the beach but dislike the sun can enjoy the sea breeze on the deck chairs under the bridge, breathing in the salty air while drinking Wildrock City's coconut juice.

The most famous hotels are built along both sides of the approach bridge, allowing guests staying here to step right onto the white sand beach. They can simply wear their swimsuits, unlike guests staying further away who have to carry heavy bags to the beach – after all, few people are confident enough to walk down the street in a bikini. This is the convenience you get for spending a little more money.

However, Guan Jie wasn't there for tourism; he didn't need to stay on the beach.

Guan Jie tossed the nearly burnt-out cigarette into the extinguisher on the trash can under the streetlight, pulled his baseball cap down, and then walked away from the approach bridge and towards the other side of S.

……

Next to the luxury hotels are regular star-rated hotels, then there are budget-friendly but mixed chain hotels, and further back are private hotels that advertise themselves as guesthouses. Hotel prices also vary wildly, ranging from several thousand yuan a night to two hundred yuan a night, just like the huge price difference in housing prices in big cities, ranging from the inner ring to the fifth ring.

The number of tourists in Wild Rock City is as large as that of migrant workers in big cities. There are guests of all levels and needs, so no matter what price a hotel is, it can find guests that match it. Just like houses in a city, no matter how remote they are, as long as the price is right, they will always be sold.

Why are there so many people at the beach?

Guan Jie saw that many small hotels had put up "Fully Booked" signs. He didn't understand why there were so many people at the beach, just like he didn't understand why there were so many people in Senhai City.

He didn't want to understand. At this point, his brain was so exhausted it was practically suicidal.

After walking for more than half an hour, the top of the S-shaped path connecting to the barren rock island was almost in the closest straight line to Guan Jie. Guan Jie walked into a hotel that did not have a sign saying "fully booked".

The hotel is a self-built building, but it is quite tall, at least five stories. Due to the lighting, Guan Jie couldn't tell whether the top floor was the roof or a low floor. If it was habitable, it would be six stories.

Pushing open the double glass door with the words "Please Enter" written on it, the sensor immediately announced: Welcome!

Guan Jie stopped. This was a hall that had been renovated. To the left of the entrance were two high tables with two computers on them, presumably for guests. To the right, against the wall, were a vending machine, a shoe-shining machine, and a three-seater leather sofa.

The leather on the sofa was cracked, and the top of the backrest was blackened, indicating that many guests had a habit of resting their heads on it.

One armrest of the sofa is close to a three-meter-long cabinet, on which there is a computer, an ashtray full of cigarette butts, an invoice printer, and two folders.

Behind the counter, there is a built-in storage cabinet on the wall, filled with instant noodles, swimsuits, and other items. A gold metal plate is inlaid on the edge of the cabinet, with today's house price displayed in black, removable Arabic numerals.

No one was awakened by the "Welcome" greeting.

Guan Jie lit another cigarette and walked to the counter. A swivel chair was placed at the entrance of the counter; it had obviously originally been inside the counter, but now its place was occupied by a folding bed.

A straw mat was laid on the folding bed, and a pale man who didn't look like someone from the seaside was sleeping soundly on it. His slightly parted, thick lips opened and closed with the sound of snoring, and his hair swayed in waves. It seemed that there was an oscillating fan under the counter.

Guan Jie tapped a small piece of ash from the ashtray, then turned his hand over and tapped the countertop with his index finger knuckle.
