Muzan: My daughter can't be that weak!
Chapter 149 Irresponsible Parents
Xue Nai pointed to the street ahead and was about to speak when a figure squeezed through the crowd.
"Mitsuri! Don't run around—"
The little girl's father carried her over, his face still bearing the smile he had just worn while teasing his daughter, but when he saw Xue Nai standing there alone, his brows furrowed slightly.
"With so many people around, aren't they afraid something might happen to the child?" he muttered under his breath. His voice wasn't loud, but Xue Nai heard him clearly. "These parents are so irresponsible."
Xue Nai quickly waved her hand: "No, no, I wanted to play it myself! My dad is over there—" She pointed to the end of the street, "I'll go find him after I'm done watching."
The woman glanced at her, then at the bustling street in the distance, hesitated for a moment, still feeling uneasy. Her husband also looked in that direction, and their eyes met.
"Um..." She crouched down to be at Yukina's eye level, "Little friend, we came from the next district and aren't very familiar with this area. We're heading that way anyway, could you lead us there?"
Xue Nai thought for a moment and nodded. She was going to see her father anyway, so it was just a side trip.
"Okay!" She smiled at the family. "There are many other fun places around here; I can tell you about them!"
The little girl next to him, who had been holding back for a long time, suddenly brightened up when she heard this.
She let go of her father's hand, ran a few steps to Xue Nai, and looked up at her.
"Sister, sister, my name is Mi Li! Sister, can I hold your hand?" She stretched out her hand, her five short fingers spread out, palm facing up.
"OK."
"Dad! I've grabbed my sister's hand!"
Her father sighed, feigning sadness, "Fine, fine, Miri is holding onto her sister and not her father anymore. Dad is so sad."
Mitsuri panicked and quickly reached out her other hand to grab him.
"Then hold your sister's hand with your right hand and your father's hand with your left hand..."
She held Yukina's hand with one hand and tugged at the man's sleeve with the other. Looking down at her hands, she suddenly looked up again: "Eh? What about Mom?"
She frowned in distress, wishing she had three hands.
Her mother stood beside her, her eyes crinkling with laughter. "Mommy doesn't need to hold on," she said, gently patting Mitsuri's head. "Sister just fell, Mitsuri will help Mommy hold on to sister and daddy."
Mitsuri thought about it and thought it was a good idea, so she nodded vigorously.
She held her father's sleeve with her left hand and Xue Nai's hand with her right, walking forward with her head held high.
"Sister, do you have anything good to eat here?" She looked up at Xue Nai, her eyes sparkling.
"Yes," Yukina thought for a moment. Although she couldn't eat human food, she had heard other humans mention it.
"I heard the sakura mochi at the third shop on the right of this street is delicious. And the dango next door has so many flavors..."
"Sakura mochi!" Mitsuri's voice suddenly rose eight octaves. "I love sakura mochi the most! Mom made so many last time, and I ate them all in one go!"
Her mother shook her head with a laugh from behind: "Yes, yes, she finished it all in one go. After she finished, she even asked, 'Mom, can I eat more?'"
"Because it's delicious..." Miri muttered, then looked up again, "Sister, how many can you eat at once?"
"Ten? I don't eat much." Xue Nai tried her best to make up an excuse.
"Then I can eat them for you, sister!" Mitsuri patted her chest. "I'm the best at eating sakura mochi!"
"..."
Yukina and Mitsuri chatted the whole way.
Mitsuri started talking about the tree in her yard, then about the cat, and then about the ducks she had seen by the river last time.
Xue Nai said a few things she could say, mentioning that her dog was very big, much bigger than an average dog.
Mickey's eyes lit up immediately, and she said that she also had cats at home, and she would bring them out next time so that they could make friends.
Yukina imagined what it would be like for Amber to meet a kitten, and couldn't help but smile and nod in agreement.
The couple from Kanroji Temple didn't interrupt; they just gazed at the two children tenderly.
Upon reaching the teahouse entrance, perhaps because the two ghosts looked so alike, Mitsuri's father immediately spotted the man standing outside.
He stood expressionless in a black suit at the foot of the teahouse, his pale face and blank expression standing out from the bustling crowd around him.
This is probably the parent who left their child alone in the crowd.
Mitsuri's mother also glanced at it, and the same thought popped into her mind.
"dad!"
Yukina let go of Miri's hand and jogged over.
Muzan stood at the entrance of the teahouse, his brows still furrowed.
When those coffees were served, a very strange smell hit him right in the head, more disgusting than any human food he had ever smelled.
He was waiting impatiently when he saw Yukina emerge from the crowd, followed by three unfamiliar humans.
Of course, he didn't take these three ordinary people seriously.
"Dad, these are Mitsuri's mom and dad!" Yukina pointed to the two people behind her and pulled Mitsuri over. "This is Mitsuri! I fell down earlier, and Mitsuri's mom helped me up. They came from the next district and aren't familiar with this area, so I brought them here."
After hearing her explanation, Muzan's gaze swept over Yukina: "How did you fall?"
Xue Nai paused for a moment, then quickly waved her hands: "Actually, I didn't fall! I just slipped, Dad, do you believe me?"
Afraid he would ask more questions, she quickly changed the subject, "Dad, have you been here the whole time?"
Muzan remained silent, reaching out to pinch the child's cheek. He then pulled her to his side before looking up at the couple, a feigned, gentle smile on his face.
"Thank you both for taking care of my daughter." He took out a business card from his pocket and handed it over. "I was here to handle some business earlier, and I left her alone for a while. I'm sorry for the trouble."
Mitsuri's father took the business card, glanced at it, and saw the name of the trading company and the words "Tsukihiko" printed on it.
He glanced at the business card, then at the gentle man in front of him, thinking to himself that this man didn't seem like the kind of irresponsible parent who would abandon his child.
Mitsuri's mother always felt that the way the man in front of her smiled was a little strange, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong.
She said, "Xue Nai is a very well-behaved and brave little girl. She didn't cry even when she fell down. She didn't cause any trouble. In fact, we're very grateful that she brought us here and introduced us to a lot of things around here."
She looked down at Xue Nai and smiled.
Yukina stood beside Muzan, being led by that hand, and lowered her head somewhat embarrassed upon hearing this.
I'm a ghost, so of course I won't cry if I fall down!
Mitsuri was still standing beside her, looking up at her, then at Muzan, and whispered, "Sister, you and your father look so alike..."
"Yes, I think so too." Yukina nodded.
Mitsuri stared at Muzan for two seconds, then bowed and said, "Hello, Uncle!"
Muzan glanced down at her, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"Hello there."
