Muzan: My daughter can't be that weak!
Chapter 148 The Child Is Lost?
After passing through the alley, you'll reach the main street.
Umeda, the owner of the pottery shop at the alley entrance, was squatting at the door tidying up when he heard footsteps. He looked up and his eyes lit up immediately.
"Mr. Tsukihiko!" he greeted warmly. "Are you taking your daughter out for a stroll?"
Muzan turned around upon hearing the sound, bowed slightly to the boss, and his gaze fell on the child being led by the hand. A slight smile appeared on his lips.
"Yes, she kept insisting on coming out."
That smile was gentle and doting, like that of every father who is pestered by his daughter and can't bear to refuse her.
In front of outsiders, he is a polite trading company president and a respectable gentleman who lives alone in a mansion with his daughter.
Who would have thought that this Mr. Tsukihiko was a man-eating demon?
Yukina was already used to her father's behavior.
"Good evening, Uncle Umeda!" She looked up and smiled sweetly.
Umeda beamed at her call, saying "Good, good, good" twice, and then stared at her for a couple of seconds.
"Wow, you've become even cuter!"
He sighed, then suddenly remembered something and clapped his hands: "By the way, Mr. Yueyan, I've already asked someone to inquire about the blue spider lily on the pot you asked about last time."
"Any news?" Muzan's voice remained indifferent.
"Not yet." Umeda rubbed his hands together. "That flower is really rare; I've asked several people and none of them have heard of it. I'll let you know as soon as I get the news."
"Thank you for your help." Muzan said a few more words, which was unusual for him. After exchanging a few more pleasantries, he took Yukina's hand and continued walking forward.
The main street in this area is much busier than other places.
The stalls on both sides were lined up one after another, and shouts of vendors rose and fell.
They stopped in front of a vaudeville stall, and Xue Nai stood on tiptoe to look inside.
Two performers were putting on a show. The one on the left was leading two monkeys, each wearing a red vest. One monkey was bowing and the other was wearing a mask, which made the onlookers laugh out loud.
The one on the right is balancing a tall bowl on its head while spinning a plate in its hand. The plate spins very fast, but none of them fall off.
A burst of cheers erupted from the crowd.
Muzan wasn't interested in any of that.
He glanced at the huddled humans and Yukina, who was staring intently at him, and immediately understood what the child was thinking.
He naturally wasn't worried about losing a single ghost, so he let go of her hand and turned to go to a teahouse at the end of the street.
"What would you like to drink, sir?" the waiter greeted.
Muzan sat down by the window, his gaze sweeping over the sign on the wall.
I heard that something called coffee is very trendy lately. Although ghosts can't eat human food, it doesn't stop them from ordering.
"This, this, this, and this, one of each, please."
He pointed to several types of coffee listed on the sign.
The shop assistant paused for a moment, looked at his expressionless face, then at the row of characters he was pointing to, and hesitated to speak.
"Sir, are you sure you need this much? Actually—"
"Is there a problem?" Muzan looked up.
The shop assistant felt a chill run down her spine from his gaze and quickly waved her hand, "No, no, please wait a moment."
He turned and left, thinking to himself: This is the first time a customer has ever enjoyed coffee so much...
Over there, Xue Nai saw her father leave and thought she would go find him after she finished watching. Taking advantage of her small size and agility, she squeezed into the crowd and soon became engrossed in watching.
The monkey on the left put on the mask, took two unsteady steps, and then plopped down on the ground, knocking the mask askew.
The onlookers burst into laughter, and Xue Nai laughed along with them.
She thought to herself, "If Amber were here, she would definitely be much smarter than these two monkeys."
However, as soon as Amber went out, she went to play with her new little friend dog, and now she's probably running around in some alley.
The artist on the right began to increase the number of discs, one, two, three, each one spinning steadily on his fingertips.
Cheers erupted from the crowd one after another.
As Yukina was engrossed in watching, a clear, crisp sound suddenly came from beside her.
"Wow, Mom and Dad, look! That's amazing!"
Xue Nai turned her head and saw a little girl, about four or five years old, riding on her father's shoulders, her hands raised high and waving vigorously.
She was wearing a pink kimono, her hair was tied in two braids, her cheeks were round and her eyes were smiling and curved into two crescent moons.
"Wow, that's amazing! I want to learn that when I grow up!"
Her father's eyes crinkled with laughter: "You want to learn this? Dad supports you!"
The little girl turned her head again and called out to the crowd, "Where's Mommy?"
A woman peeked out from the crowd, carrying some things in her hand, a doting smile on her face: "Hey, Mom supports you too!"
The little girl clapped her hands with joy, swinging her legs back and forth, almost slipping off her father's shoulders.
Her father quickly helped her up, but she wasn't afraid and was still smiling.
The three of them burst into laughter, squeezed into the crowd, and waited to watch the next program, just like everyone else.
Xue Nai looked at them, her gaze falling on the little girl's face.
When she smiles, her eyes crinkle, and there's a small mole under each corner of her eye, like two tiny sesame seeds.
Her father also has one under his eye; when they both smile, the mole under their eyes is quite vivid, both big and small.
The performance is over.
The performers smiled and began asking for tips while holding their plates.
Some people in the crowd took out coins, while others shrank back. When the plate was turned in front of them, they felt embarrassed not to give any.
Xue Nai took a few coins out of her pocket and tiptoed to put them into the artist's hand.
Just as she was about to turn around and squeeze out, the crowd suddenly jolted. Someone tripped and fell, the person in front leaned back, and the people behind continued to push forward, the whole crowd like dominoes being toppled, crashing to one side.
Xue Nai slipped and fell to the ground.
"Make way, everyone! Someone has fallen down here!" someone shouted.
The crowd immediately parted to both sides, leaving a large empty space in the middle.
Xue Nai sat on the ground, her palms covered in dust, but it didn't hurt. However, more than a dozen pairs of eyes were staring at her, and her face flushed instantly. She wished she could bury her face in her collar and run to find her father.
Before I could even get up, a woman's voice came from beside me: "Oh? Whose child is this? Is he alright?"
The voice was familiar; it was the little girl's mother from earlier.
The woman squeezed through the crowd, knelt down, and gently brushed the dust off Xue Nai's skirt. She patted it twice, and seeing Xue Nai covering her face, she immediately asked worriedly, "Little one, does it hurt somewhere? Did you hit your head?"
Xue Nai quickly lowered her hand and shook her head: "It doesn't hurt, it doesn't hurt at all."
The woman paused for a moment, then looked closely at her face.
"It really doesn't hurt?"
She reached out and gently touched Yukina's forehead, then looked at her palm. "There's no broken skin, you should be fine."
She breathed a sigh of relief and smiled.
"You scared me! I thought some careless adult had lost the child." She glanced around, but seeing no one coming to claim the child, she asked, "Where are your parents? Why are they here alone?"
