The Australian Revolution of 1828
Chapter 5: Marriage
After internal deliberation within the Hanyang Governor's Office, on February 8, 1828, Han Qingyun, the Director of the Immigration and Trade Bureau, was officially appointed as the Grand Governor of the Hanyang Governor's Office, overseeing military, political, and civil affairs in Hanyang Prefecture.
Meanwhile, in order to establish the authority of the Grand Commander, the relevant appointments were issued to all government offices on the same day and communicated to all departments of Hanyang Prefecture, so that almost everyone knew about it.
On February 15 of the same year, Han Qingyun and Meng Yu held a simple wedding, which made an important contribution to consolidating Han Qingyun's position.
After all the guests from the various government offices had left, Han Qingyun returned to the bridal chamber, lifted Meng Yu's veil, picked up two cups of wine, handed one to Meng Yu, and said, "Yu'er, are you hungry?"
"Let's drink this cup of nuptial wine first, then we'll eat something!"
According to ancient customs, the wedding process was actually quite complicated, but unfortunately, Hanyang Prefecture did not have the necessary resources, and did not even have anyone familiar with the wedding procedures of high-ranking officials and nobles, so they could only simplify everything.
Adding hearsay details to the wedding process for ordinary people is one thing, but expecting a perfect wedding is another matter entirely.
Moreover, Meng Yu didn't come from a wealthy family, so she was quite satisfied with the wedding and didn't raise any objections.
Even the usually strong-willed woman softened considerably, pursing her dry lips and whispering, "Brother Han, I'll listen to you!"
At this crucial moment, Han Qingyun didn't hesitate and successfully completed the pre-wedding rituals, correcting Meng Yu's form of address and saying, "My lady, from today onwards, we are one, sharing joys and sorrows!"
"If there is anything you are dissatisfied with in the household, please feel free to speak up."
She had just married into the family and had no complaints, except that she was a little unaccustomed to being away from her familiar surroundings. Pointing to the maids serving her, she said, "Husband, these are the people I brought with me. Find them a place to stay!"
It is customary for a woman to have maids as part of her dowry. These maids are her trusted confidantes and important assistants after she marries into her husband's family, especially since Han Qingyun will inherit the position of governor.
Given this cultural environment, how could Han Qingyun not be prepared? He said, "Madam, this matter has already been arranged. I will have Jingyi take them there to settle down."
"From now on, I'll need you to make more decisions regarding matters in the courtyard. Jingyi will do her best to cooperate with you during this time. I'm currently busy with official duties and haven't been able to attend to many things, so I'll have to trouble you, Madam, to take care of things!"
The traditional division of labor between men and women, with men managing external affairs and women managing internal affairs, is an impeccable tradition of Han civilization.
Moreover, Han Qingyun was preoccupied with various matters in Hanyang Prefecture, frequently visiting and investigating the situation, leaving him with very little time to pay attention to things within the courtyard. Although Gao Jingyi was there to help him make decisions, he couldn't simply ignore everything.
Now that Meng Yu has taken over as the mistress of the house, she has to give her some of the decision-making power, and Gao Jingyi can only be her assistant.
Meng Yu was aware of this and knew her status as the mistress of the house, so she accepted it directly, saying, "Husband, you may go about your official business. I will take care of things in the courtyard."
Entrusting all the affairs of the courtyard to Meng Yu, Han Qingyun then accompanied Meng Yu to eat something, which helped Meng Yu, who was starving, regain some energy and feel refreshed.
I had originally intended to bring up Gao Jingyi's marriage, but the timing wasn't right. It was Meng Yu's wedding day, and suddenly bringing up the matter of a concubine would only add to Meng Yu's troubles.
Considering the peace and tranquility of the home, Han Qingyun did not bring it up indiscriminately, and could only ask Gao Jingyi to bear it for a while before bringing it up again later.
The couple were perfectly in sync, and Han Qingyun couldn't help but feel a little smug. After a quick wash, he said, "My lady, it's time for us to consummate our marriage!"
Knowing full well that this was a necessary courtesy between husband and wife, Meng Yu still felt a little awkward. Her face flushed instantly, and she said shyly, "I hope my husband will be gentle with me!"
Sin!
Where did you learn all this?!
Could it be a small picture book?
However, Han Qingyun couldn't care less about that. He removed Meng Yu's elaborate red wedding dress one by one, leaving only her close-fitting red bellyband and other clothing.
Her undergarments were made of silk, light and smooth, with large gaps between them. Combined with Meng Yu's 168cm height and the faint glimpses of her skin, they were incredibly alluring.
Without any hesitation, he took Meng Yu to bed and shared the pleasures of married life!
More than an hour later, everything had settled down. Han Qingyun gently patted Meng Yu's smooth back and said, "Madam, go to sleep early. We still need to serve tea to Father and Aunt Zheng tomorrow!"
The next day, Meng Yu woke up before Han Qingyun, nestled peacefully in her husband's arms. Overjoyed, she gently touched Han Qingyun's cheek with a strand of her hair.
A moment later, Han Qingyun was startled awake. Looking at Meng Yu, who had single eyelids, he joked, "It seems Madam isn't very satisfied with my performance last night. We still need to work harder!"
Before she could finish speaking, Han Qingyun began to grope her, making Meng Yu blush with embarrassment.
To be honest, although I was exhausted last night, young people have amazing recovery abilities. I only slept for an hour or two and everything is back to normal, just like now.
After the two of them struggled out of bed and tidied their clothes, Gao Jingyi entered the room and said, "Young Master, Madam, Master and Madam Zheng have made preparations. Please come over."
I didn't expect even Grandpa Han to come and urge them. It seems the two of them really need to reflect on their actions. At such an important moment, they were so playful that they forgot the time; it was truly inappropriate.
Fortunately, Han Qingyun was thick-skinned and looked completely innocent. He said shamelessly, "Go and tell the master that the madam is not feeling well and has just recovered. We'll be there right away."
Such a direct approach caused Meng Yu, who had already recovered, to blush instantly again, and she tugged at Han Qingyun's sleeve.
Han Qingyun immediately understood and called Gao Jingyi back, who was about to go out to deliver the message. He said somewhat awkwardly, "Jingyi, you don't need to relay the previous message. Just say we're coming right away."
Gao Jingyi, being an experienced woman and having been served by Han Qingyun multiple times, naturally knew the subtleties involved. Pretending not to notice, she went off to relay the message.
After Gao Jingyi left, Meng Yu had her maid tidy her clothes again, finally adopting the demeanor of a proper wife, and said, "Husband, let's go over!"
She managed to take a few steps, but found that it still hurt a bit, so she could only let Han Qingyun support her.
Supporting Meng Yu, who was having difficulty walking, the couple paid their respects to Grandpa Han and his wife, and also served tea. This marked the completion of most of the wedding procedures, and the next step was the homecoming visit.
Three days later, Han Qingyun and Meng Yu officially returned to their parents' home, completing all the formalities!
On that same day, February 18, 1828, Mr. Han passed away due to a recurrence of his old illness. At the same time, Han Qingyun received the support of various government offices and formally accepted the position of Governor-General of Hanyang, taking over all military, political, and civil affairs.
