Chapter 24 My Innocent Best Friend's Domineering CEO Boyfriend is Really Obsessive
"Hey, Huanhuan, why are you all alone? Where's Lao Pei?"
The private room was quite lively. Lu Chenzhou had just received the message and was about to go downstairs to pick up the person when the door was pushed open.
He was a little surprised to see Sang Huan come in alone. Didn't he send a message to Pei Yansheng? Why didn't that kid receive it?
Sang Huan smiled at him, her eyes crinkling, without answering his question. "Good evening, Brother Chenzhou."
Out of the corner of his eye, Lu Chenzhou noticed a figure gradually approaching in the corridor not far away. He raised an eyebrow. Was he still not appeased?
Without saying much, he led Sang Huan to sit down to the side.
Most of the people in the private room were people Sang Huan had met at the banquet, so they weren't strangers to her either. As soon as she sat down, she was pulled in to join the game.
When Pei Yansheng arrived, he saw that the girl had already blended into the atmosphere.
He lowered his eyes, said nothing, picked an empty seat, and silently picked up his cup, trying to join in.
Pei Yansheng used to isolate everyone, so it was rare to see him in such a pitiful state of being abandoned. Lu Chenzhou suppressed the corners of his lips from turning up and sat down next to him, using the loud music to cover his mouth and asking in a low voice.
"What's wrong? Huanhuan still doesn't want to talk to you?"
Pei Yansheng, unusually, was no longer indifferent as before. He poured himself a glass of wine and nodded.
"Yeah, they told me to keep my distance."
"Tsk," Lu Chenzhou glanced at the people separating the two, his expression complex, "So you really listen to her?"
Pei Yansheng's eyes widened in confusion as he brought the wine glass to his lips with his slender fingertips, upon hearing Lu Chenzhou's words.
"Otherwise what?"
Lu Chenzhou choked up for a moment, finding it both funny and absurd to recall this person's almost blank romantic history.
He helplessly reached out and patted Pei Yansheng on the shoulder, "Brother, listen to my advice, sometimes you have to be a little more flexible."
Pei Yansheng raised his eyes, a hint of confusion clearly visible in his dark pupils.
Lu Chenzhou didn't waste any words and whispered a few words in his ear.
Pei Yansheng frowned slightly. "Will this work?"
"I've been there, so listen to me."
Meeting Lu Chenzhou's confident gaze, Pei Yansheng remained silent for a moment, but ultimately chose to believe him.
Seeing that he understood, Lu Chenzhou didn't say anything more. He turned around and joined the party, waving to reorganize the games. He also pulled Pei Yansheng, who was quiet beside him, into the party as well.
There were quite a few people at the party, and they were all young and fun-loving, so they chose the simple and easy-to-learn game of Texas Hold'em.
Lu Chenzhou is the dealer. Each player is dealt three cards. After looking at their cards, players take turns calling for drinks. The dealer chooses to reveal their cards and compare their hands. Players can also call blindly. The loser of the revealed hand drinks double the amount.
Each round consists of at least three players, and after a deck of cards is dealt, the next player to be the dealer starts from the left.
With no objections from the group, the game began.
Sang Huan had attended high school and college reunions, and most of them involved going home after dinner; very few involved drinking as much as this one.
Lacking experience, she blindly shouted to avoid the first round, but she wasn't so lucky in the second round. Lu Chenzhou got a pure three-of-a-kind and opened the game.
Without a doubt, it's a complete loss.
Sang Huan, who blindly ordered two drinks, looked at the three cards in her hand and her eyes instantly cleared.
That's it, the losers who blindly shout out their names have doubled their losses, she'll have to drink at least four glasses!
The girl next to her couldn't help but laugh when she saw her face scrunched up like a bitter gourd, and gently asked if she wanted to drink with her.
Sang Huan wrinkled her nose and looked up, just in time to meet Pei Yansheng's gaze, who was standing two people apart. She didn't know where she got the courage, but she firmly refused and said that she could.
After downing four full glasses of beer, she felt incredibly bloated. Just then, a round strawberry was handed to her.
Sang Huan didn't look up, whispered "thank you" and took it. After the sweet strawberry relieved the discomfort, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Another tissue was handed over, and Sang Huan took it and said "thank you" to the kind person again.
"It's okay."
A familiar, deep voice rang out, and Sang Huan blinked, only then realizing that Pei Yansheng had moved to sit next to her at some point.
Noticing the slender fingertips still stained with a little sticky red juice, Sang Huan froze, her expression extremely unnatural.
Fortunately, the game wasn't over yet, and everyone was drinking and having a good time. The subtle tension between the two gradually dissipated amidst their banter.
Lu Chenzhou's luck didn't improve after that. He lost every time he opened a new account. His luck was like a fleeting moment, and it didn't improve until the bookmaker changed.
After a few drinks, Sang Huan learned a thing or two. She became more cautious and would only call after looking at her cards. Even if she had a good hand, she no longer had the arrogance she had before.
And so, when it was almost her turn to be the host, she still drank two cups.
Seeing that the cards in the young lady's hand were almost dealt and it was her turn, Sang Huan panicked a little, and unconsciously gripped her clothes tightly with her hands at her sides.
Lu Chenzhou's eyes darted around, and he said with a smile, "Old Pei, Huanhuan hasn't played this game before. We've been too busy with ourselves. Why don't you help teach her? We can pretend you two are a team, since you two know each other anyway."
Everyone around her was looking at her, not expecting her to be so nervous. Sang Huan felt a little embarrassed and was about to say that she could manage on her own when...
"it is good."
The man beside him responded softly, extending his long, clean-cut hand to take the deck of cards first.
He lowered his eyes, his bangs were not carefully styled, and some of his eyebrows and eyes were obscured by stray hairs. He slowly shuffled the cards, his handsome and aloof profile giving him a touch of cynicism.
Realizing she had been staring at him absentmindedly, Sang Huan felt embarrassed and looked away. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed that she was holding the man's black trench coat.
In an instant, as if burned, she quickly withdrew her fingers, a faint blush spreading across her fair cheeks.
Those around them then noticed the subtle tension between the two, and when their eyes met, an interest flickered in their eyes.
Whether it was intentional or coincidental, after Pei Yansheng dealt the cards, everyone raised their glasses to a high level, starting with at least one glass, and some even blindly called for four glasses.
After several rounds, Pei Yansheng had another bad run of luck and didn't win a single game, so he went off to drink.
After downing six more glasses of wine, the man's dark eyes and refined features were tinged with a hint of intoxication.
Sang Huan couldn't bear to watch any longer. Considering that the two of them were also in a team, she leaned close to Pei Yansheng's ear and whispered something.
"Let me drink a glass for you, your luck is terrible. I'll deal the cards later."
"Um?"
The man lifted his eyelids, revealing a hazy, faint red tinge at the corners of his pale eyes. He tilted his head, his hot breath, tinged with the effects of alcohol, lingering slightly.
Her pale pink lips were moistened by the wine, turning them a more alluring crimson. Her dark eyes held a smile, tinged with an almost imperceptible languor.
His deep, husky voice was clear, gentle, and incredibly indulgent.
"Okay, I'll do as Huanhuan says."
In an instant, the blush on the girl's face spread directly to her fair neck and earlobes.
She tried to ignore the strange shyness, but the girl next to her couldn't resist gossiping and whispered in her ear, imitating Pei Yansheng.
"Okay, I'll listen to Huanhuan~"
Sang Huan could no longer sit still. She felt her head was spinning and her ears were burning. She quickly made an excuse to go to the toilet and escaped from the private room.
Pei Yansheng's gaze followed her back, and he unexpectedly met Lu Chenzhou's eyes.
Lu Chenzhou raised an eyebrow, and Pei Yansheng, without further hesitation, stood up and nodded to the crowd.
"Excuse me, I need to use the restroom too. Have fun, everyone! It's on me tonight!"
The crowd cheered upon hearing this, ignoring their teasing. Pei Yansheng strode out of the private room behind the girl...
