My partner at Hogwarts is Tom

Chapter 15 The Peacock and the Loyal Reader

While eating mixed fried dough sticks with Tom, Victor read today's Daily Prophet.

Today's Daily Prophet's front page headline is: "Two World-Renowned Authors Join Hogwarts!"

Below the bold, large title was a photo of myself and Tom.

Next to her own photo was a man dressed in glamorous clothes, with a flamboyant hairstyle and a standard, perfect smile on his face.

Viktor raised an eyebrow as he looked at the familiar, flamboyant man.

Gilderoy Lockhart, it turns out that this year's applicant for the Defense Against the Dark Arts class at Hogwarts is this peacock.

No wonder Dumbledore said that this year's professors' abilities did not match his reputation.

I'm quite familiar with Victor, the Ravenclaw alumnus who graduated in the year he was expelled.

It's not because both of them are well-known authors or honorary members of the Anti-Dark Magic League.

It was Lockhart's outrageous behavior while he was at Hogwarts that led to this.

These outrageous behaviors include, but are not limited to, starting a school newspaper just to publish one's own name;

He carved a 20-foot-long signature on the Quidditch pitch;

He imitated the Dark Mark and projected his own image into the sky above Hogwarts;

I mailed myself 800 greeting cards for Valentine's Day, which resulted in my breakfast being covered in feathers and other debris.

In Victor's mind, Lockhart was always a very talented but showy peacock.

That's about all I remember.

As for his works, Victor has also read them, but what can he say after reading them?

The story is exciting, but the events described don't seem to be the work of the same person.

Upon careful reading, the book contains many contradictions, but the content is undeniably excellent. Viktor even learned some very useful tips from it.

If Lockhart's abilities and methods are truly as depicted in the books, then he is indeed a powerful wizard.

However, according to Dumbledore, Lockhart was not proficient in Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Viktor estimated that most of his stories were adapted from hearsay.

I casually flipped through the newspaper and found nothing of interest.

Victor quickly finished his breakfast in a few bites.

No matter what Lockhart is like, as long as we don't provoke him when the time comes, that's fine.

With a wave of his magic wand, he effortlessly cleaned up the dishes and chopsticks.

Viktor went to the wardrobe and casually picked out a hunting outfit that looked good and put it on.

By the time Victor finished dressing, Tom, who was standing next to him, had also finished breakfast and was standing in front of the mirror wearing the same hunting outfit as him, listening to the mirror praise him.

With his suitcase in hand and Tom, who was still admiring himself, Victor led Tom away from Hogwarts through the window on a swaying white cloud.

After leaving the area where Apparition was forbidden at Hogwarts, Victor and Tom disappeared in a distorted manner.

…………

Privet Road, Little Huigkin, Surrey, London.

With a sudden distortion of space, Victor and Tom appeared here.

At the moment he appeared, Viktor seemed to sense something and looked towards a two-story building.

They led Tom to number 4 Privet Drive, following the address.

Looking at the meticulously manicured lawn in front of the two-story building, Victor checked the house number again.

After straightening his clothes, which were wrinkled from Apparition, with Tom, he went up and rang the doorbell.

Now that he's a professor, Victor has unconsciously started paying more attention to his appearance.

"You've arrived. May I ask who you are?"

As the door opened, a somewhat thin woman wearing an apron appeared before Victor.

Looking at the woman in front of him, Victor smiled and said.

"Hello, Mrs. Dursley, I am Victor Scamander, and I am currently..."

However, before Viktor could finish speaking, a gasp interrupted him.

"Scamander?! Is it Scamander from 'Fantastic Beasts Here'?"

Seeing Penny's surprised expression, Victor's smile grew even brighter.

"I think so, if no one else has written this book."

"Oh my god, is that really you? My son really loves your work; he's a loyal reader. But why would you...?"

At that moment, Penny also noticed Tom, who was standing upright at Victor's feet, wearing the same clothes as Victor.

Seeing Penny's expression shift from surprise to confusion to doubt, Victor spoke up.

"It's like this, Mrs. Dursley. Besides being a writer, I am also a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I'm here today because Harry has encountered some minor problems that I need to help with."

"Hogwarts!"

"Yes, yes, madam, don't be nervous. I'll leave after I've solved Harry's problem. Perhaps I can also give your son a copy of 'Fantastic Beasts Here' with my autograph."

Upon hearing the words "Hogwarts," Petunia Dursley's face turned pale instantly, and her lips pressed into a tight line.

She almost instinctively tried to close the door, but Victor's gentle words and the phrase "a book signed by hand" made her stiff fingers stop on the door panel.

"Dali...he really likes your book." Penny's voice was dry, her eyes shifting warily between Victor and Tom.

"But Harry... that kid doesn't need any magic! He doesn't need..."

"Mrs. Dursley," Victor's voice remained steady, carrying a reassuring strength.

"I understand your concerns. But Harry's situation is somewhat special, and I'm just here to make some simple adjustments to ensure everything is safe and peaceful. I swear on my honor that I will not teach Harry any spells, nor will I leave anything 'unusual' here."

A complex emotion flashed across Penny's face—fear, disgust, and a hint of curiosity that she tried hard to conceal.

She glanced back into the room and said in a low, urgent voice.

“Vernon… my husband, he doesn’t like… this kind of thing. You have to hurry, before Dudley and Vernon get back. And,” she stared at Tom, “it… he won’t get into trouble, will he?”

"Tom is more polite than most people," Victor said with a smile. Tom raised one of his front paws at the opportune moment and nodded slightly like a gentleman.

Penny reluctantly stepped aside, saying, "Please come in. Harry is in his room..."

He followed Penny up to the second floor and arrived at an inconspicuous cubicle door on the side of the second floor.

Penny knocked on the door, her voice curt: "Harry, come out, there's... a guest looking for you."

The door opened, and a thin boy poked his head out. He wore a pair of somewhat old glasses, and a lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead was faintly visible under his messy black hair.

His green eyes were filled with surprise and confusion, especially when he saw Victor and the well-dressed Tom at his feet.

"Harry Potter," Victor said, extending his hand with a genuine smile, "I am Victor Scamander, the new professor at Hogwarts, and this is Tom."

"Teacher, Professor, hello, and Tom."
