I can dream about my own death.

Chapter 4 The Emotionless Little Girl

After listening to the two high-ranking employees chat for a while, Chen Wensheng finally mustered up his courage, picked up his tray, walked to the empty seat next to them, put down the tray, sat down, and struck up a conversation:

"I overheard your conversation. The little girl you mentioned happens to live in the building next to mine; what a coincidence!"

"Oh?" The two looked at Chen Wensheng in surprise.

Seeing the two men's suspicious expressions, Chen Wensheng gave them his detailed address: "I live in Room 404, Building 4, Chenxing Low-Rent Apartment."

"Are you sure you're serious about the address of your apartment?" one of them asked, even more surprised.

Chen Wensheng explained with an awkward laugh, "The meaning of this address is indeed not good, but the rent is much cheaper. Other low-rent apartments are 900 yuan a month, while my small studio apartment is only 600 yuan a month, which is a whole third cheaper. And I'm just an Orange Card employee, my salary is limited, so I can't spend money recklessly, so living in this apartment is quite cost-effective."

"Oh, I see. My name is Li Yucheng. I used to be an orange card employee, and it took me several years of hard work to get promoted to a yellow card employee. Orange card employees do get a bit less paid, so keep working hard," Li Yucheng said encouragingly.

Chen Wensheng turned his head and glanced at the person opposite Li Yucheng.

"Wang Feng," Wang Feng said with a smile.

"My name is Chen Wensheng, it's nice to meet you both." After introducing himself, Chen Wensheng immediately changed the subject, "I just heard you mention that the little girl with the heart condition has had a very tough time. I happen to live in the building next to hers, and I'll try my best to help her in the future."

"Let's team up and visit her after get off work today," Li Yucheng suggested.

Wang Feng nodded slightly.

After the discussion on this topic ended, Li Yucheng said while eating:

"A big news story recently broke in Changfeng City. Xue Mingzheng, the chairman of the Xue Group who developed the Yulonghu Mountain Villa high-end villa area, has a liver that is nearing necrosis and needs a liver transplant to survive. He is currently making every effort to find a matching liver donor. If a matching liver donor is found and is willing to donate, he is willing to give away a villa in Yulonghu Mountain Villa."

"The cheapest villa in Yulong Lake Villa starts at ten million. That's a really big deal. Donating a liver once means you won't have to worry about the rest of your life. I'm going to the hospital to get checked out and see if my liver is a match. If it is, why would I need to work? I'll go donate my liver right away." Wang Feng's eyes gleamed.

"How can a liver be so easily adapted?" Chen Wensheng shook his head.

He knew that the human liver was a particularly amazing organ with an absurdly strong regeneration ability.

He had previously read an article about a person who had liver cancer, which caused severe liver damage.

The doctor removed three-quarters of the man's liver.

In just six months, the remaining quarter of the liver returned to its original size through cell division and proliferation.

Therefore, as long as there is no risk of infection after liver transplantation surgery during liver donation, it is equivalent to having no risk.

If his liver is a match for that of the wealthy Xue Mingzheng, he will donate his liver without hesitation.

The current economic climate is terrible; making money is harder than eating shit. If there's an opportunity to rise to the top overnight, he'll definitely seize it without hesitation.

"Oh, I remember now. That tycoon's blood type is Rh-negative, also known as the 'panda blood type.' The primary condition for a liver transplant is that the blood type must be the same. I don't have a chance anymore, so I can skip even the hospital check-up." A look of disappointment appeared on Wang Feng's face.

The three chatted and ate, and time passed quickly; it was time to go back to work in the afternoon.

Chen Wensheng returned to his workstation and continued working until he finished get off work at five o'clock in the afternoon.

After get off work, the three of them got together, bought a carton of milk and two kilograms of loose bread and pastries, and went to room 302, building 3 of Chenxing low-rent apartment to visit the poor little girl.

Li Yucheng knocked on the door and softly called out, "Xu Xiaoqi, are you home?"

After more than ten seconds, Xu Xiaoqi, pale-faced, opened the door and let the three of them in.

She didn't say a word the whole time, and her face was expressionless, like a piece of emotionless wood.

Li Yucheng tentatively asked, "Xiaoqi, do you know about your father's situation?"

"The aunties in the community have already told me," Xu Xiaoqi said in a flat tone, devoid of any emotion.

"Don't worry, don't be afraid, your father's matter will be resolved properly," Li Yucheng comforted him.

"I have a serious heart condition, so I can't worry, I can't be afraid, and I can't have any emotional excitement. Otherwise, my condition will flare up, and I'll need a lot of money to treat it," Xu Xiaoqi explained.

Upon hearing this, Chen Wensheng felt a mix of emotions, a tightness in his chest, and a general discomfort.

It's ironic that a 7-year-old girl has to control her emotions and mature prematurely because she can't afford treatment for her heart disease.

Chen Wensheng's compassion stirred, and he smiled, promising, "Xiaoqi, your father might not be able to come home for a while. I happen to live in the building next to yours, and I'll come to see you often in the coming period. If you need anything, just let me know and I'll buy it for you."

Xu Xiaoqi bowed slightly to the three of them, and said expressionlessly, "Thank you! Please sit down, I'll make you some tea."

"No need, I can do it myself, please sit down."

Li Yucheng picked up the teapot, put in some tea leaves, ran to the water dispenser to fill it with hot water, and then poured tea for everyone.

In the cramped living room, the four people silently drank tea without saying a word, creating a somewhat oppressive atmosphere.

Only after her teacup was emptied did Xu Xiaoqi speak, "Uncles, can I ask you for a favor?"

"Go ahead," Wang Feng replied immediately.

"According to the aunties in the community, my dad was in a car accident because he was driving a severely overloaded vehicle. The accident happened on a road where dump trucks are prohibited. If there were no other unforeseen circumstances, my dad is suspected of dangerous driving, which is extremely serious and could mean at least five years in prison. Could you please help investigate whether his dump truck was tampered with?" Xu Xiaoqi asked.

"You know this too?" Li Yucheng stared at the 7-year-old girl, his eyes wide with surprise.

"Because of my heart condition, I didn't go to school. I could only watch TV at home. I didn't like watching cartoons, so I watched some legal education programs and documentaries. I learned all of this from TV."

"I see." All three were quite shocked; this little girl was unbelievably mature.

"The reason I asked that is because not long ago, my father repeatedly refused an unreasonable request from a rich man. Could my father's car accident have been orchestrated by that rich man?"

"Who was the rich person your father refused? What was that rich person's unreasonable request?" Chen Wensheng asked curiously.

"I don't know the specifics. My dad just said that the rich man offered a lot of money, but he absolutely couldn't agree to it," Xu Xiaoqi shook her head.

"I'm a reporter from 749 Media Company. I promise you, I'll help you investigate," Li Yucheng replied with a smile.

"Thank you!" Xu Xiaoqi's tone remained devoid of any emotion.

After talking for a while, it got dark, and the three of them left.
