Ancient Wizards: A Little Progress Every Day
Chapter 77 Introductory Assessment
Bernal lowered his head slightly, as if he was thinking, weighing his options, and making a decision.
After a few breaths, his hoarse and indifferent voice rang out: "Come find me here in three days. There will be an entrance test for joining the Law Circle. Prepare yourself well."
"Serena doesn't live in Krogh Castle. I've arranged for her to be in a safer place. If you want to see her, you can do so in three days."
A hint of relaxation and the joy of finally getting what he wanted shone in Dago's eyes. They quickly ended their conversation. He didn't even get a sip of the host's water. What a stingy fellow.
"I hope you, old man, will keep your promise, or you'll get a punch as big as a sandbag."
After Dago finished speaking, he got up and left, leaving Bernal sitting on the sofa looking bewildered, wondering what Old Deng meant.
Before long, they reached the rusty iron gate of the manor and looked back as the castle gate slowly closed in front of them.
Life goes on like this, sometimes orderly, sometimes chaotic, like grass that turns green in spring and yellow in winter.
In the blink of an eye, three days later.
Dargo stood on one side of Oak Street, as quiet as a fine sculpture.
He took out a brass pocket watch from his storage ring, opened it, and saw that the hands had reached 10 a.m. He then closed the watch and put it back into the ring.
His gaze repeatedly fell upon the tightly closed gates of the manor across the street.
An hour and fifteen minutes had passed since he sent the signal that he had arrived at the manor, but the person he was waiting for had not yet appeared.
Dago didn't lose patience; he was just thinking about how to break Bernal into pieces. In his past life, he had never waited this long, not even for a girlfriend.
Fifteen minutes later, his impatience even affected the real world, and a biting wind involuntarily rose around him. Finally, the sound of someone walking out of the dilapidated manor could be heard.
"Crunch~~"
The castle gates made a harsh, unpleasant sound, and two figures emerged from inside.
It was Bernal and Serena. The former wore an exquisite silver-white robe, the thorny ring pattern printed on the hem and sleeves of which shimmered faintly in the sunlight.
Serena, on the other hand, was dressed casually in a gorgeous floral print dress. She had grown quite a bit since we last saw her.
Upon seeing Dago, she suddenly froze, her fingers tightening sharply until her knuckles turned white.
The first words I had thought of countless times were now stuck in my throat, leaving only my heart pounding in my chest and my eardrums buzzing.
Dago strode toward the two of them, each step feeling like it was treading on her taut nerves.
When the distance was reduced to less than two meters, she realized that Dago's hair had grown past his shoulders again.
"Long time no see," Dago said first, his voice deeper than before, with a hint of barely perceptible joy at the end.
Serena watched excitedly as Dago nodded vigorously, her eyes filled with joy.
If you ignore Bernal's displeased expression, he would definitely sit down and chat with Serena all day.
The relationship between the two is currently very delicate. They dislike each other, are wary of each other, and are forced to rely on each other to achieve certain goals.
You surprised me.
Bernal's gaze fell on Dago, and he said calmly, "It's only been three days, but your aura has changed again. Your understanding of ice magic seems to have deepened a lot, and you've reached a new level."
Dago's eyes flickered slightly, a hint of surprise flashing across them. At that moment, Bernal chose to end the meeting abruptly.
"Once we enter the legal circle, you must investigate the background of the Painful Thorns Society with me. There are some things I need to figure out as soon as possible."
"Don't worry, I won't go back on my promise."
Dago walked beside Bernal, thought for a moment, and asked, "What kind of strength test is required to join the Ring, and how difficult is it?"
"It's simple for you; you're far superior to my foolish sister."
This remark angered Serena, who pinched Bernal in frustration. She was only a level three apprentice wizard, at most the level of a working wizard in Cletam City.
Serena glanced at Dago subconsciously, her eyes dimming. She hadn't expected him to be a full-fledged wizard now. How many stories had unfolded since they parted?
Bernal suddenly stopped and looked at Dago with a strange expression, then said with a smile, "To be honest, I'm starting to look forward to your 'playing dumb to fool the enemy' scenario."
After that, the three of them had no further communication until they arrived at the upside-down porcelain bowl building that Dago had visited when he first tried to apply to join the French Ring.
"It's you again?!"
At the front desk in the lobby, coincidentally, the man who greeted him this time was the same middle-aged man he had met the first time.
He clearly remembered Dago too, and asked half-jokingly, "Looks like you've found someone to recommend you this time. Who is it?"
When Dago announced Bernard Kroger's name, the middle-aged man, who had been all smiles just a moment ago, suddenly stood up from his seat upon hearing the name.
"Bernard?! Where is he?"
Before Dago could answer, the middle-aged man had already noticed the two people chatting not far away.
The middle-aged man stared at Bernal for a long time before sitting down again.
Then, a strange, indescribable look appeared in Dago's eyes.
"Why would Bernal vouch for you? Why would you ask Bernal to vouch for you?"
The middle-aged man muttered a couple of sentences to himself.
"What do you mean?"
Dago frowned and pressed for details, and the latter listed a bunch of well-known wizards that Bernal had offended in the Thorn Ring. Back then, in order to investigate the Painful Thorn Society's murder of his wife, he had offended almost half of the wizards in the Ring.
After registering, he tossed Dago something that looked like a number plate, pointed in the direction of the inner entrance, and then ignored him.
"I'm starting to regret asking you to be my recommender."
Dagos walked back to Bernal with a slightly somber expression. He didn't mention that he had offended nearly half of the wizards in the magic circle. He was beginning to realize the seriousness of this problem that he had almost ignored.
The formal wizarding community in this world is characterized by long lifespans, numerous troubles, and petty-mindedness.
"It's not too late for you to back out now."
Bernal said with a playful expression.
"Change your mind? I'm actually starting to get excited."
Dago shook his head and strode toward the test entrance not far away.
He now only wants to enter the Thorn Ring as soon as possible, to inherit more Soul Imprints, and to access a higher platform for resource exchange and acquisition, thereby accelerating his progress.
The three of them walked into the entrance together, stepped into the light curtain formed by the rune array, and arrived at a room that was not very large.
A group of people stood on one side of the room, talking in hushed tones. Most of them were recommenders who had come together to test the wizards.
A wizard from the Ring of Law quickly approached, briefly inquired about the situation, verified Dargo's identity information and test credentials, and then told him to wait there.
Dago and Bernal stood silently, each aware that the other was hiding many things from them. Their fragile partnership might crumble once the entrance test was over, and this temporary agreement would come to an end.
Serena, caught in the middle, couldn't siding with either of them, and remained silent, observing the two.
At this moment, a small group of people on the other side of the room stopped talking and naturally looked towards the three of them.
"Someone you know?" Bernal asked casually.
Dago recognized the person opposite him, looked away, and calmly replied, "Yes, I tried to get others to recommend me before you."
Standing a dozen meters away from him was Campbell, dressed in a green robe with a brown buzz cut, surrounded by several wizards, displaying his extraordinary and superior status.
Thinking that he was also here, and judging from his demeanor, it seemed that he had also recommended bringing wizards to take the introductory test, and he had brought more than one wizard.
