Ancient Wizards: A Little Progress Every Day
Chapter 76 The Crystal Coffin
Seemingly noticing Dago's gaze, Bernal turned his tall frame and walked to the front of the crystal coffin.
He spoke coldly, "During the magical battle in the courtyard just now, you seem to be a pretty good ice wizard."
Dago frowned but remained silent, wanting to hear what he was going to say next.
"Come here. For Serena's sake, I hope you can do me a small favor."
Only then did Dago slowly walk over, and without the owner's permission, he wouldn't gossip about other people's family affairs.
This is a coffin made entirely of a special kind of crystal.
The surface was densely covered with all sorts of complex and mysterious runes and arrays, many of which were in operation, while many others had dim light.
Through the runes and magic circles in the crystal, Dagger could barely make out that the person lying in the crystal coffin was a woman.
She was wearing a black dress, had fair skin and blonde hair, and even if you couldn't see her face clearly, Dago could tell she was a sleeping beauty.
Bernal stroked the crystal coffin with one hand, gazing affectionately at the sleeping beauty inside, as if caressing the woman's cheek from afar.
"She was my wife, and a full member of the Thorn Ring, yet she inexplicably fell into an eternal sleep in the library of the Ring Tower, as if she had lost her soul."
His emotions gradually shifted from warmth to mania as he recalled the events. He angrily said, "It must have been those wizards from the Thorns of Pain. They've been coveting our family's ancestral seal for a long time."
Then he looked dejected. "It's my fault. I dragged my wife into this. I'm too weak. I couldn't kill those wizards with my own hands."
"In order to protect my remaining family, I had no choice but to send Serena to a place far away from the Thorn Ring, and I could only stay in the manor all day long, like a bald old dog guarding my little plot of land."
Dargo listened to his story calmly without saying anything. To be honest, people's grief cannot be shared.
After a while, Bernal broke free from his emotions and pointed to a groove on a runic array on the crystal coffin that had stopped functioning.
"Inject your ice-type energy particles into it until this magic circle is fully operational again!"
Following his instructions, Dago gently placed his right hand over the corresponding rune array. Ice energy particles surged up from deep within his skin and gradually flowed into the rune array from his right hand.
As ice-elemental energy particles were infused, the dark rune array slowly lit up, and a chill began to permeate the crystal coffin, making it hazy. A large amount of white frost covered the woman's body inside the coffin.
While "frozen" the rune array, Dago secretly observed the appearance of Bernal beside him.
Clearly, as the woman's body inside the crystal coffin was gradually covered in frost, Bernal's condition improved little by little.
The whole process is like an old dog receiving some kind of continuous comfort, which gradually makes it more active.
Bernal's eyes remained fixed on the woman in the crystal coffin, his gaze softening as he spoke, his lips moving slightly as if he were saying something to her, but Dago couldn't decipher a single word.
Finally, the entire ice energy infusion process was over, and Dago let out a soft breath and withdrew his hand.
"Alright, Mr. Bernal."
Dago spoke up, "Is there anything else I can help you with?"
Bernal shook his head and said calmly, "Your basic ice magic skills are very solid, and the effects are excellent. The crystal coffin can be maintained for a while longer."
Then, he casually tossed a small bag to Dago, saying, "This is your reward for helping out this time. Get out of the manor as soon as possible."
"There is no possibility between you and Serena. Remember who you are, Dago. You are just a wandering wizard."
Dago opened the small bag that Bernal had tossed to him and saw that it contained several mid-level magic stones. Without hesitation, he put them into his storage ring.
He looked up and smiled, then said coldly, "Benaar, what do you mean by this? Putting aside my relationship with Serena, your behavior is insulting me. I expect you to apologize for your rudeness!"
Bernal's haughty gaze fell on Dago, and he said coldly, "Dago, I hope you can face reality. Please leave."
The powerful mental energy of a late-stage first-ring wizard suddenly erupted, but before it could be fully unleashed, it was suppressed by an even stronger aura.
The two formal-level auras collided, creating a violent vortex that made the messy furnishings in the basement rattle loudly.
At the center of this vortex, Dago, whose entire body was covered in countless interwoven ice-blue patterns and whose black hair and robes billowed wildly, stood beneath the soul seal [Winter Star].
He looked at the man before him, who had regained his violent temper, his eyes icy, and said, word by word, "Mr. Bernal, you are indeed pitifully weak!"
Bernal stared at him in astonishment, and after a moment, his face gradually fell.
"When did the Aynak Wizarding Academy produce such a ruthless character as you? Why did Serena never tell me about this?"
Dago reiterated that dignity resides only on the edge of a sword, and truth lies only within the range of cannon fire.
Five minutes later, the two sat on the sofa in the main hall of the castle and chatted amicably, laughing and talking about Dagor's experiences at the academy, especially when they talked about the arrival of the Blood Mother Ersog.
Bernal suddenly fell silent, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "Don't call out the name of the evil god directly, or it will locate you in the spirit world and pull your soul away."
"They are a group of ancient and evil great beings. If it weren't for the protection of the Silver Sea, it would be unknown whether humanity would still exist."
"Compared to the Seven Deadly Sins, the evil gods of the spirit world are beings of equal rank to the Silver Sea, and they are always thinking about devouring the Silver Sea."
"I suspect that the Society of Pain and Thorns worships some evil god from the spirit world, secretly murdered my wife, and forced me to serve them, but I have not been able to find any evidence."
After hearing his statement, Dago said to him with a serious expression, "Do you want revenge, Mr. Bernal?"
Bernal nodded, leaning slightly forward to get closer to Dago.
"You've witnessed my strength. Since you recommended me to the academy, I'll investigate the Pain Thorns Society for you."
After a moment of silence, Bernal said, "Do you know what a guarantee means? It means that I will be responsible for everything you do in the French Ring from now on. If you do anything that is bad for the French Ring, I will also be held responsible."
"Do you think I would take such a big risk because of a few words you said? Especially since you seem like a kid with a lot of secrets."
Dago said calmly, "It seems your wife has lost her soul, which is why you've gone to such lengths to preserve her body. What if I help you find your wife's soul? Don't you want to take that gamble?"
Bernal paused for a moment, a hint of interest appearing in his eyes.
The thought "I knew you would react like this" popped into Dago's mind. Reason made you clearly know you were wrong, but emotion made you disregard it and keep making the same mistake. You're just a person who's blinded by love.
