The dream of becoming a Pokémon master

58. Obtain information at Oak's Laboratory!

The next day, after completing his daily training, Kyosuke waited until seven o'clock before knocking on the door of Oki's lab.

"Doctor, I'm here! I made sure I didn't come early to bother you!" Kyosuke said as he knocked on the door.

The doctor had already anticipated this, so he got up at six o'clock today. When he heard Kyosuke knocking on the door, he put down the instant noodles he was eating and went to open the door.

"Kyosuke, you've finally arrived. I've been waiting for you for so long." Oki said with a big smile.

Kyosuke: ? ? ?

"I'm an old man, and I'm so busy running the research institute all by myself. I've been looking for someone to help me, and you contacted me. You even offered me two months' worth of help. I'm so happy about that." Professor Oak said, looking at Kyosuke with a "I have high hopes for you" look, and patted him on the shoulder.

Kyosuke subtly lowered Professor Oak's hand and said earnestly to the professor, "Professor, you might not believe it, but I'm just here to have fun. Don't expect me to help you or anything. Look at my serious expression, see? See? Impossible."

Professor Oak immediately adopted a pitiful expression: "I'm just a lonely old man, and I have to take care of the Pokémon for the trainers in this town, while a trainer who received his starter Pokémon from me won't even offer a little help..."

Kyosuke couldn't take it anymore: "Alright, alright, I'll stay and help. Anyway, it's only two months. After two months, I'll go get the final badge."

"Two months it is then." The doctor immediately perked up. "Just stay here with me during this time."

"I still need to go home to sleep tonight!" Kyosuke thought of the hardships at home and couldn't just leave without a word for two months. "I promise I'll be there on time every day."

"It's up to you," Professor Oak said indifferently.

"Let's start our work today after I finish my instant noodles."

"no problem."

After Professor Oak quickly finished his instant noodles, Kyosuke was taken to a storage room by Professor Oak.

It's called a storage room, but it's more accurate to say it's a room for storing Poké Balls. It's surrounded by iron walls with only one opening, presumably to prevent theft.

It was filled with Poké Balls.

Seeing Kyosuke's surprised look, Oak smiled and said, "These are all Poké Balls that trainers from Pallet Town sent me. A lot, isn't that a lot?"

"But with so many Pokémon here, don't their trainers ever come to see them?" Kyosuke didn't think this was a good thing.

Kyosuke is a staunch believer in Pokémon elitism, arguing that the quality of Pokémon is more important than the quantity. He also believes that every Pokémon has its own potential, and that hard work is more important than talent, and that every life can become stronger through its own efforts.

Another point is about capturing Pokémon. Kyosuke believes that Pokémon also have their own ideas. Rather than capturing them by defeating them, he prefers to attract them with his own personality and become friends and partners with them.

However, he couldn't comment on which other people's Pokémon philosophies were better, since everyone's ideas are different.

Therefore, seeing the large number of Poké Balls placed around Professor Oak's place, he didn't sense how much love trainers had for their Pokémon.

Professor Oak sighed, "Everyone grows up differently. Like you, you don't like catching Pokémon, while Gary has caught almost two hundred."

"So many? What about Satoshi?" Kyosuke asked, somewhat surprised.

He spends most of his time training, and his first thought when encountering wild Pokémon is to gain experience points. Catching them is mostly a matter of luck, and he hasn't yet assembled a team of six. Gary, on the other hand, is catching Pokémon at a rate of more than one per day. If he frequently changes the Pokémon he holds, Kyosuke doubts whether his main team's battle strength will improve properly over time.

"Ash is here," the professor said, pointing in a direction.

Kyosuke looked over and saw Ash's headshot pasted in the middle of a shelf, with two red Poké Balls and a bunch of green Poké Balls below.

"Even Ash has caught so many?" Kyosuke found it hard to believe.

In previous interactions, Kyosuke felt that Ash should have a similar Pokémon philosophy to his own, but what about all these rows of Poké Balls?

"The green ones below are all Tauros that Ash caught in the Safari Zone. Strictly speaking, he's only really caught the two above: Muk and Krabby," Professor Oak explained. "But Ash now has seven Pokémon, not counting Tauros, which satisfies the requirement of battling with everyone. Kyosuke, what about you? I haven't received a single one of your Pokémon here."

Kyosuke was a little embarrassed: "I only have five left now. But they're all super strong! By the way, Ash set off with Pikachu, right? I saw it, and it's really strong. What else did he catch?"

"Let me think about it," the doctor said, lost in thought.

"I caught a Caterpie at first, then it evolved into a Butterfree and I released it, supposedly to pursue love. Speaking of which, Kyosuke, you have a Butterfree too, right?"

Kyosuke nodded; his Butterfly Dance was no ordinary Butterfly Dance.

However, Ash's act of releasing Butterfree made Kyosuke realize that Ash had never changed. His love for Pokémon remained as pure as ever.

If Mai has to leave in the future, will I let her go? Kyosuke asked himself.

Definitely. I have no reason to stop them from pursuing their own happiness.

Having figured this out, Kyosuke felt he had grown up.

Perhaps he could understand the crybaby better now, Kyosuke thought.

Professor Oak hadn't expected Kyosuke to have such a rich inner world, and continued, "There's also a Pidgey. Pidgey and Spearow, Pidgeotto and Finch, are natural enemies."

Kyosuke: "I know, no need to emphasize it. I won't let Ash see this and give him the chance to challenge Ouji." Kyosuke understands all too well the pain of being entangled with Ash.

"Huo'er? Is that the name of that mutated Spearow? Not bad." Professor Oak nodded in approval of Kyosuke's naming ability (Charmeleon, Nidoran: Meow meow meow?). "Also, Ash caught Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander. Although he traveled with Pikachu, he unknowingly collected all three starter Pokémon."

"Ash has a unique charm," Kyosuke said. Although he's a carefree and mischievous kid, his love for Pokémon is second to none.

"Then there are the Krabby and Muk that I left here. You wouldn't believe it, Ash sent Muk to me because he couldn't stand the smell. I had to do a lot of work to get rid of the smell." Professor Oak made a complaining face at the end, which made Kyosuke laugh.

"Now that I've told you all about Ash, what about you, Kyosuke?"
