The dream of becoming a Pokémon master
41. I'm evenly matched with the Four Heavenly Kings.
At four o'clock the next day, Kyosuke got up and began training.
Frost, Fire Monkey, and Infernape are all confused.
That's right, not only did Kyosuke summon the newly joined Glaceon and Frostleaf, but he also summoned Chimchar. Chimchar naturally didn't want to, so he summoned Infernape as well.
Infernape: The question I've been pondering all day finally has an answer. Why go easy on a trainer like this?!
Infernape maintains a high level of training, after all, as a trainer, it can't let its Pokémon fall behind in these areas. Its morning training is also completed easily with Kyosuke.
However, seeing Kyosuke panting heavily, and recalling his three-meter jump yesterday, Fire Monkey felt something was off. Finally, he spoke up: "Kyosuke, your body..."
"I almost crippled the Kanto Fighting King who said I needed to train harder last time," Kyosuke said to Fire Monkey with a slight exaggeration.
The fire monkey immediately shut up.
But I just wanted to say that your training methods seem amazing, I didn't mean anything else! By the way, did you really mess with the Elite Four? Aren't you a rookie trainer? Why did you bully the Elite Four?! You even specified who it was! Infernape was feeling bitter.
After breakfast, both sides began preparing for their battle, and Fire Monkey started chatting with Kyosuke about random topics.
"Kyosuke, your flight is this afternoon?"
"yes."
"Why didn't you stay a little longer?"
"I still have my Pokémon receiving treatment at the center over there, how can I leave them? Besides, I absolutely have to attend this year's Indigo League." Thinking of Mai and Ouji far away, Kyosuke felt a warmth in his heart.
"Participating in the tournament in your first year of traveling? That's ambitious. But there are only four months left. How many badges have you collected, and how many Pokémon have you caught?" Chimchar exclaimed in admiration before asking the most important question.
Kyosuke naturally knew that Infernape was trying to give him some pointers. Even though he wasn't one of the Elite Four, he was still a powerful trainer, and he explained his situation to Kyosuke.
"Collecting all the badges shouldn't be a problem, but I don't have enough Pokémon. Although the Indigo League isn't very high-level," Infernape chuckled, "the last few rounds of each league are all 6v6 battles, and you have to adjust your strategy based on your opponent's type. You'd better hurry up and catch as many Pokémon of different types as possible. Before you reach a certain level, type can be decisive in battle. Kyosuke, you only started your journey in April?"
"I set off on April 1st, my birthday," Kyosuke emphasized.
"April Fool's Day, haha..." Kyosuke clenched his fist, and Fire Monkey stopped laughing. "So you were only 6 years old when you joined the forum? If I'm not mistaken, you're the youngest among our group of old guys. I'll give you a present next year for your birthday, haha, for our little Kyosuke."
"Alright, I want the baby of Hades Rider Latina." Kyosuke also made his gift request without any hesitation.
"Cough cough cough, you're just like Porygon, always thinking about legendary Pokémon. Oh well, you'll find out soon enough." Chimchar felt the conversation was going nowhere.
"Let the battle begin! As a final gift to this meeting, I'll show you the difference between you and the Four Heavenly Kings!"
As the Fire Monkey arrived at a secluded building, which looked dilapidated on the outside but was a well-maintained battle arena on the inside.
"This can be considered a privilege granted to the higher-ups by the alliance. Each city has a hidden building where they can resolve some private matters," Fire Monkey explained to Kyosuke, then found the other end of the venue.
Then a robot appeared: "Next up is Elite Four member Big Leaf versus Pallet Town trainer Kyosuke. One-on-one battle. Let the battle begin."
"Here we go, Infernape!"
"Mid-fire, make your appearance!"
Infernape and Charizard have appeared on the field!
However, compared to Infernape, Charmeleon is a bit shorter and doesn't have the same imposing presence (because of its name).
"Kyosuke, you can attack now." Fire Monkey conceded the first attack.
"Then I won't hold back! Medium fire, flamethrower!" Kyosuke immediately commanded!
Charizard roared into the sky, and then a thick flame rushed towards Infernape!
"Then let's use our Flamethrower!"
Infernape unleashed its Flamethrower at Charizard!
Kyosuke thought the flames would remain even, but to his surprise, the Charizard's flames were dispersed the moment they made contact, and he was then attacked by the flames!
"Zhong Huo! Are you alright?" Kyosuke asked with concern.
Although this was the second time I had encountered an opponent of this caliber, Charizard managed to survive this time, unlike the previous one where it was instantly killed!
"No rush, we'll find an opportunity slowly." Kyosuke hasn't given up yet.
However, the gap in levels is too large to be bridged by mere imagination.
Since Kyosuke hadn't given the order, Fire Monkey didn't hesitate: "Sonic Fist!"
"Keep a close eye on their movements, be careful..."
Before he could even utter a word of evasion, Charmeleon was struck! Sent flying by a single punch, it instantly lost its fighting ability!
"Only two attacks...?" Kyosuke was a little incredulous.
"Good training, but he seems to lack combat experience." Fire Monkey walked over and patted Kyosuke on the shoulder. "If you get defeated by a newcomer, what kind of Heavenly King are you? Find your place, Kyosuke!"
"Yeah, find your place!" Kyosuke recalled his Charmeleon. "Now that the Pokémon battles are over, it's time for us trainers to take the lead!"
"Wait, Kyosuke, calm down! What are you trying to do?!"
The Pokémon Center in Chefton City.
After handing Charmeleon over to Nurse Joy to help it recover, Kyosuke sat down next to the Charmander whose hand was wrapped in bandages.
"Pokémon, you won; Trainer, I won. So it's a tie, I guess," Kyosuke said to Chimchar in a serious tone.
The fire monkey gave him a disdainful look.
But then, remembering something, Fire Monkey said to Kyosuke, "Kyosuke, even though you're going back to Kanto, you'll definitely travel around to grow, right?"
Kyosuke nodded.
"If you ever come to Sinnoh again, remember to look for me in Lakeside City. Of course, I might need your help with something."
"Your friend?" Kyosuke recalled what Fire Monkey had said.
"Yes. I hope he can rediscover the passion he had in those matches. If it were you, perhaps you could."
The passion of battle? Kyosuke couldn't help but think of Ash. That kid has always been full of energy; perhaps he's more suited for it? But he wondered how Ash was doing on his Pokémon journey.
"Okay, I've got it. But it might be a long time before that happens," Kyosuke agreed first.
"It's alright, so many years have passed already, a few more years won't make a difference."
"Well, maybe I'll give you a surprise," Kyosuke replied with a smile.
Maybe Ash will grow up by then. He might be more suitable than me.
