The dream of becoming a Pokémon master

10. Only a berserker can possess a creed!

Seeing the Caterpie swarming around him in a frenzy upon discovering him, Kyosuke realized this was a great opportunity to train his Pokémon. He promptly summoned Charmander and Nidoran: "Charmander, Crybaby, come out! The adventure begins!"

"Nidoran!" "Nidoran!" Charmander and Nidoran came out excitedly!

Wait a minute! Looking at the swarms of green caterpillars around me, this isn't what I expected!

"Only those who can fight against overwhelming odds can be considered strong!" Kyosuke said, his back to the two Pokémon warriors, leaving them with a majestic silhouette and seemingly encouraging words, before decisively charging into the Caterpie.

One punch, one kid... one punch, one kid...

Berserker is the strongest! Unleash a flurry of attacks! A massive swarm of green caterpillars is wiped out. Even with his silk-spitting attack, he can only stop Kyosuke for a maximum of 0.01 seconds.

Charmander is quite the fighter, and he usually only trains with weaker Pokémon from the periphery. This is the first time he's had such a large and satisfying number of Pokémon. Plus, he was given a beating by Kyosuke yesterday, so he was still resentful. With a loud "Ni!", he used Flamethrower to drive back a bunch of Caterpie around him.

Nidoran emerged refreshed, but the sight of the caterpillars instantly turned into a grimace, and he burst into tears. The caterpillars, however, paid no heed, unleashing a barrage of Tackle and Bug Bite attacks. Although Nidoran was still quite timid, his father was powerful, and his physical abilities far surpassed those of ordinary Pokémon. He himself possessed the Toxic Sting ability, and the swarm of caterpillars were poisoned. While he continued to cry, he wasn't actually seriously injured. However, seeing this, the caterpillars behind him unleashed a barrage of Silk Shots, binding him tightly, especially reinforcing his mouth with multiple layers of silk.

Nidoran has lost his ability to fight.

On the other side, due to Kyosuke's overwhelming strength and Charmander's extremely powerful area-of-effect attacks, Butterfree and the others from not far away finally arrived.

The neatly arranged winds blew the green caterpillars aside to rest, followed by a large swirling silver vortex.

A large whirlwind swirled around, threatening to form a tornado. Little Fire Dragon felt like he was about to fly away, but the wind still gently brushed the mountainside.

Seeing that Charmander was about to give up, Kyosuke immediately stepped in front of him.

When the giant butterflies realized that the silver whirlwind was ineffective, they immediately switched to flapping their wings and scattering sleeping powder. The powder flakes in the air were still quite menacing; this was their last resort to protect their territory.

"That move won't work on someone as powerful as me. You know, Berserkers are immune to control skills, right, Charmander? Charmander! Charmander! Why are you down?!" Kyosuke, this humanoid beast, was naturally no match for an ordinary Pokémon like Charmander. Charmander collapsed after only taking one breath. It's just that Kyosuke was too slow to react and didn't notice.

The scene was extremely awkward.

The situation was at a stalemate.

"Okay, okay, I think there are a lot of misunderstandings here. Why don't we talk it out?"

"Compare, compare, compare, compare!" "Compare, compare, compare!" "Compare, compare!"

"We didn't intentionally invade your territory. I just wanted to sneak in and capture a Caterpie that had the potential to evolve into Rayquaza!"

"Compare, compare!" "Compare, compare!"

"You don't recognize Rayquaza? Is it because we're from a different generation... But I really didn't mean to! I was attacked before I even reached your territory! Oh, right, here are some healing potions and high-grade antidotes. Go and use them on the Caterpie, because regular Peach Berry won't cure Crybaby's poison."

"Beat, beat." The Butterflies were still somewhat skeptical, but sent one of them to heal the Caterpillars. Watching the Caterpillars slowly recover, they flew around excitedly.

"Since you're all alright, I won't bother you any longer. I was wrong this time, and I'll reflect on it. I won't treat Pokémon like that again." Kyosuke, seeing this seemingly happy ending, prepared to leave. However, he was stopped by a Butterfree.

It turned around and gestured to the group behind it, then the group left to the side to discuss it.

While waiting, Kyosuke tore the silken threads off Nidoran and retrieved him and Charmander. He then waited silently for the Butterfree to finish their discussion.

About five minutes later, the Butterflies finished their discussion and said to Kyosuke, "Bi, Bi (come along, say this on the way)."

Kyosuke was highly skilled and daring, so of course he wouldn't hesitate.

……

"You mean, ten years ago, a green caterpillar was born that never moved, but you had to take care of your people, so you fed it every day, and now it's a meter long? But you can't stand it anymore and want to find a way to get rid of it?"

On the way to the interior of the territory, Kyosuke roughly understood what had happened.

The Butterfree lineage's territory consists of the innermost layer of newly hatched Caterpie and Pokémon eggs, nurtured by the weaker Butterfree; the middle layer is Metapod; and the outermost layer comprises rapidly evolving Caterpie and the powerful Butterfree, responsible for protecting the territory. The Caterpie, however, stubbornly occupies the innermost layer, refusing to move an inch. Ten years have passed, and aside from growing larger, it shows no signs of evolution whatsoever.

Generally speaking, Caterpie's evolutionary cycle is not long, and its lifespan is also relatively short compared to other Pokémon. A typical Caterpie takes only three to four years to evolve into Metapod, and at most five years. This one, however, hasn't evolved for ten years; it's hard to say whether it's exceptional talent or simply laziness and indolence.

"Okay, leave it to me, I'll definitely subdue her!" Maybe this is Rayquaza's dormant period? Just thinking about it made Kyosuke's mouth water.

According to a theory in the Pokémon world, once a Pokémon is captured, the bond between it and its trainer accelerates its growth, making it much stronger and faster at evolution than in the wild. Sometimes, an evolution that takes decades in the wild can be achieved in just one year. Many long-lived Pokémon in the wild are even descendants of Pokémon whose trainers died and who later came to live in the wild. If this is Rayquaza's offspring, it shouldn't be able to evolve so quickly.

Finally, we arrived at the center of the territory. A towering tree came into view, covered with green caterpillars, and swarms of giant butterflies fluttered around it.

"Where's that giant green caterpillar? Is it in some tree hole?" Kyosuke asked the leader, Butterfly, his voice slightly raised.

"Bi, Bi (no, she's in the grass)." Saying this, she flew over a lawn and hovered.

Upon closer inspection, Kyosuke discovered that a green caterpillar was indeed hiding there.

"Impressive. Perhaps this is the true master of stealth." Kyosuke thought to himself, a sense of defeat washing over him. "Therefore! I must subdue her!"

Kyosuke approached the giant green caterpillar.

"Let's battle! I'm going to catch you!" Kyosuke took out Charmander's Poké Ball from his belt and declared war on Caterpie.

Caterpillar looked at Kyosuke with her big, dark, bright eyes and called out, "Caterpillar, Caterpillar (No need to battle, I'll go with you)."

"Eh, eh, eh, eh?"
