Chapter 83 Human lives called asset optimization?!
"A supplementary notice?"
On the top floor of the Poseidon Industries headquarters building, next to a huge circular conference table, a gray-haired man tossed his tablet computer onto the table.
He is William Von, chairman of Poseidon Industries.
"Special Asset Management Department? Three hundred and seven missing person reports? What's this new kid up to?"
"William, calm down," a man wearing gold-rimmed glasses said slowly. "He's probably just a young man who just got a toy and wants to open it up to take a look. He may have heard something and is trying to scare us so he can get more benefits at the negotiating table."
"Benefits? He's already taken 37% of the company's shares, what more benefits does he want?" another director scoffed. "Some random Eastern kid who popped up out of nowhere, does he really think he can become the boss just because he bought a few shares?"
"Have you found out anything about him?" William von asked his assistant.
The assistant quickly replied, "I checked. His background is very clean, abnormally clean. He's the owner of a small fish farm in Canada who recently inherited a fortune. Besides money, it seems... he has nothing."
"A fisherman?"
A suppressed chuckle rippled through the conference room.
"A fisherman dares to question us?"
"Tell security that if he has more than two people with him, have them wait downstairs. This isn't his fishing boat."
William von picked up the cigar again, cut it open, and lit it.
A kid who got rich by luck. Since he wants to see it, let him see it.
Let him see who really made the rules of this world.
It was exactly 10:00 AM.
The heavy door to the conference room was pushed open.
Shen Fei walked in.
He only brought one person with him, Kyle.
Both men were dressed in simple casual suits, standing out from the group of well-dressed old-money men in the conference room.
Shen Fei's gaze swept across the entire room.
Twelve people sat around the conference table—the entire board of directors of Poseidon Industries.
Some of them were scrutinizing him, some were fiddling with their pens, and some didn't even look up.
"Mr. Shen, welcome."
William von exhaled a smoke ring and pointed with his cigar to an empty seat opposite the head of the table.
"I am William Von, Chairman of Poseidon Industries. Since you have requested an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders, then we can begin now. Your time is valuable, but our time... is even more valuable."
He glanced at his watch.
"You have fifteen minutes."
Shen Fei did not walk to that spot.
He walked straight to the huge floor-to-ceiling window and looked down at Wall Street.
"Fifteen minutes?"
Shen Fei turned around, his face expressionless.
"I think you may have misunderstood something."
He walked to the conference table, placed his hands on the table, and leaned forward.
"Today, I've come to hear your reports."
"Young man, watch your words," a director frowned.
Shen Fei ignored him.
His gaze was fixed on William von's face.
"I'm sure you've all received my supplementary notification."
"What have the Special Asset Management Department's achievements been over the past ten years?"
William von's eye twitched slightly.
The man with gold-rimmed glasses next to him smiled and took over the conversation.
"Mr. Shen, I think there might be some misunderstanding here. Our company does not have a 'Special Asset Management Department'. As for the missing person report, employee turnover is normal in large companies. Every year, some expatriate employees lose contact for various reasons, which is very common in the industry."
"Yeah?"
Shen Fei straightened up.
"Hannah".
He said it softly.
next second.
The main screen in the conference room, as well as the built-in small screens in front of each director, lit up simultaneously.
No data, no reports.
There were only human faces.
Men, women, young and old, of different skin colors and nationalities. The only thing they had in common was that they were all wearing old-fashioned work uniforms from Poseidon Industries.
One photo after another flashed by.
At the bottom of the screen, a line of numbers is jumping.
It jumps from 1 all the way up to 307.
Do you know these people?
The directors' expressions changed.
"Just some... former employees." William von's voice became somewhat stiff.
"Resign?"
Shen Fei tapped his finger lightly on the table.
On the screen, all the photos disappeared, replaced by a document.
On April 12, 2017, 3 units of Grade C assets were deployed at the following locations: xxxx, xxxx.
John Smith, Pipeline Maintenance Engineer.
A photo of a man holding his daughter appeared next to the document.
Anna Lee, data analyst.
A photo of an Asian girl at her university graduation ceremony has surfaced.
"Hassan Mohammed, security personnel."
A photo of a middle-aged man appears, with his family in the background.
"These three people went missing on the same day."
Shen Fei's gaze shifted to the man with the gold-rimmed glasses.
"Mr. Robert, I found that this 'asset optimization' disposal report was signed by you personally."
"You call this asset optimization?"
The smile on the man named Robert's face froze.
"I don't understand what you're talking about! This is a fake!"
"Forgery?"
Shen Fei tapped his fingers on the table again.
An audio clip popped up on the screen.
It's a recording of a phone call between Robert and a woman.
"…Honey, don't worry, we're going to the Maldives next month. The company just helped me get rid of a 'non-performing asset,' and I got a big bonus…"
The recording has finished playing.
Robert's face turned deathly pale instantly.
"security guard!"
William von suddenly stood up and roared.
"Smash all their equipment! Throw them out!"
The conference room door was suddenly kicked open.
Four security guards in black suits rushed in.
They rushed straight towards Shen Fei.
Kyle moved.
He did not draw his gun.
He simply took a step forward and stood in front of Shen Fei.
The first security guard's fist came crashing down with a whoosh.
Kyle sidestepped and thrust his elbow upwards.
It hit the opponent's jaw squarely.
A muffled thud.
The burly man, weighing over 200 pounds, rolled his eyes and collapsed limply to the ground.
The other three rushed forward.
Kyle did not stop moving.
With a single grappling move, the second security guard's wrist was broken.
A knee strike sent the third security guard sprawling to his knees, clutching his stomach and vomiting bile.
The last security guard met Kyle's gaze, froze on the spot, and dared not take another step forward.
The whole process took less than three seconds.
In the conference room, only the cracking sound of bones breaking and suppressed gasps could be heard.
The board members looked at Kyle, who was standing in the middle of a pile of garbage.
"Now, can we have a proper talk?"
Shen Fei's voice broke the silence.
He walked around the table and approached Wilhelm von step by step.
William von instinctively took a step back.
"What...what do you want?" His voice trembled.
Shen Fei walked up to him and stopped.
He picked up the cigar that William von had placed on the table and stubbed it out in the ashtray.
"I don't want anything to happen."
Shen Fei's gaze swept over everyone present.
"I'm just here to announce something."
"As of today, this board of directors is dissolved."
"What?"
Everyone thought they had misheard.
Shen Fei pulled out the chair in the main seat and sat down.
That position originally belonged to William von.
I'll say it again.
"From this moment forward, I, Shen Fei, am the sole decision-maker of Poseidon Industries."
"I will have David buy back the shares you hold at yesterday's closing price. You can also choose not to sell, but that's just a meaningless string of numbers."
"As for you," Shen Fei looked at them, "now, tell me everything about 'Leviathan.' What it is, where it is, what you're feeding it, and what you want to get from it."
His voice was very low.
"Otherwise, you'll join those 307 people and become names on the next missing persons report."
He leaned back in his chair, looking at the group of people who were pale-faced and drenched in sweat.
"My patience is limited."
"Your decision will be made by the time my 'toy' arrives at the port of Newfoundland."
"Oh, right, I forgot to tell you."
"My submarine is already on its way."
