Chapter 196 The Traitor?
"Uh," the instructor glanced around, almost able to see the threatening look on their faces, forced a smile, and waved his hand, "I, I didn't see anything."
He wasn't the only one; the other instructors who were surrounded suffered the same fate.
None of the instructors were stubborn; they all expressed their attitudes sincerely.
Only after the recruit captain nodded did the recruits release the instructors.
The instructors covered their throats and coughed several times before they recovered, watching the new recruits leave arm in arm.
The incident of threatening the instructors was not uploaded, since it was Andrea's instruction. When these instructors wanted to go directly to the governor, they saw Andrea instead of the governor.
When Andrea smiled at them, they were so frightened that they dared not even think of complaining anymore. Instead, they worried that Andrea would say something distorted to the governor.
Andrea had no interest in complaining to the governor. She gave them a disdainful look and turned to go into the governor's office.
The governor sat in his office chair, holding a pen in one hand and lightly tapping on the map, his brow furrowed.
Hearing Andrea's footsteps, he didn't look up, his hoarse voice asking, "Has Milton started working on it yet?"
Andrea said, "Milton has already started the modifications with his team. He's very interested and enthusiastic."
The governor's lips curled up slightly. "Milton is like that, like a child who never grows up, his likes and dislikes are very clear."
After he finished speaking, he looked up at Andrea.
The governor's eyes held a strange and mocking glint, a hint of mockery that Andrea caught. She paused, startled. "Milton—likes me?"
The governor lowered his head, turning his gaze back to the map, his voice still carrying a hint of rising intonation: "You're only just realizing that?"
This sudden news struck Andrea like a bolt from the blue. She had always considered Milton a good friend and had no romantic feelings for him.
After Andrea had gradually processed the news, she hurriedly took her leave of the governor.
The governor kept his head down, studying tomorrow's tactics.
After leaving the governor's office, Andrea walked down the dimly lit street, feeling a slight unease in her heart, not for any other reason than that the news was too sudden.
With her toes pointing forward, Andrea quickly returned to Milton's laboratory.
Inside the laboratory, the deafening noise of chainsaws, the clanging of metal, and Milton's excited shouts mingled together, sounding from the outside just like the experimental site of some mad scientist.
Andrea pushed the door open and entered without knocking.
Besides Milton, there were several auto repair workers in the lab, who were inserting a freshly smelted, somewhat thick steel spike into a truck.
The truck is a white van with no seats in the back; the entire space is used for transporting goods. There are two seats in the front: a driver's seat and a passenger seat.
The sides of the vehicle were densely covered with steel spikes, which were made by heating steel pipes at high temperatures and twisting them a couple of times. The front of the vehicle was equipped with a huge impact beam, and the windshield was reinforced with wire mesh.
Even the tires have been reinforced, so they're less likely to burst.
Andrea carefully examined the "new car," her expression focused.
"Andrea." Milton was covered in engine oil and looked filthy.
As soon as he saw Andrea, he ran over and looked at her with a big smile.
Andrea was taken aback. After learning that Milton liked her, she felt very uncomfortable whenever she interacted with him.
So, suppressing her discomfort, Andrea asked, "Milton, do you know why we need to find this truck?"
"Wouldn't a truck be more practical?"
"That's because—" Milton opened his mouth to speak, but suddenly seemed to remember something, shut his mouth, and glanced slyly at the workers behind him.
He then moved his eyes, gesturing for Andrea to go outside to talk.
Then, he left the laboratory first, with Andrea following closely behind.
Upon arriving at the open space behind the laboratory, Milton looked around several times, appearing very wary.
Andrea was speechless at his series of actions.
Because he had been doing useless work all day, the biggest mole was right in front of him, and he was about to personally tell the mole the information.
But Andrea remained calm and earnestly replied, "There's no one here now, so go ahead and say it."
Milton nodded with relief. "We chose vans over trucks because vans are less bulky and easier to modify."
"After the modification, it can quickly rush into the prison, and then—"
Milton paused again, glancing cautiously at Andrea.
Andrea's heart skipped a beat; she was being suspected.
Andrea quickly pressed, "And then what?"
Milton opened his mouth, sighed, and said in a low voice, "Then we'll put the walkers in there, and use them to attack the prison later."
Andrea frowned in confusion. "Are the walkers really effective against the firepower of those people in the prison?"
Keep in mind that the heavy machine gun was positioned between the main prison building and the lawn, fully loaded with bullets. With a single pull of the trigger, it could easily harvest the zombies like harvesting wheat.
The zombies have absolutely no ability to resist.
Even if they didn't use heavy machine guns, but instead used automatic rifles, and spread their fire across multiple high points in the prison, even if it took a little longer, they could easily eliminate the walkers.
Milton, however, was not in a hurry and explained in detail: "The governor did not intend to use the walkers to break through the enemy. He only needed the walkers to hold them off for a moment and to trick them into giving him information about their firepower."
"If the firepower is too strong, we will attack from other directions. If the firepower is weak, the governor will lead his men to charge in from the front and go directly to the enemy leader."
"As long as you move quickly enough, you won't get entangled with the opponent and you can quickly resolve the battle."
Andrea understood now. The governor wanted to use the walkers to test the opponent's strength. If they were strong, he would send new recruits as cannon fodder from the side, while the governor would lead his men to attack from the rear or the other side.
If the strength is weak, the governor will directly lead the elite troops to charge in. Cannon fodder is useless at this time. If they are brought along, their fear of going to the battlefield for the first time will be enough to ruin the speed of this offensive.
Andrea heard it clearly and understood it perfectly. She nodded solemnly. "Thank you, Milton. You're a good person."
Milton scratched his head, thinking that something sounded a little strange.
However, Andrea said I was a good person, so I guess that was a compliment.
"Thank you, Andrea."
Andrea didn't linger any longer and ran to Carol's small building to inform her of the situation.
