Hogwarts: My Yorozuya has no taboos!
Chapter 49 Public Outrage
Harry thought he might have underestimated how complicated learning magic was.
Thursday morning's third and fourth periods are Charms classes with Ravenclaw.
Objectively speaking, Professor Flitwick, though short in stature, had a relatively relaxed and fun teaching style. However, he also made Harry fully realize the difficulty of learning magic.
That was definitely not what he had imagined during his summer vacation. He couldn't just wave his arm or move his lips to make all sorts of magical things happen.
Before that, you'll have to take a lot of tedious notes and repeatedly practice various basic spellcasting actions.
For example, in his first Charms class—Professor Flitwick didn't teach them a single interesting Charm, but just had them practice one action over and over again—swinging their arm and then slightly flicking their wrist.
In comparison, the novelty and fun brought by Professor Delfino's ingenious teaching methods in the first two classes were more like unrestrained and unconventional magic!
However, first-year students only have one Defense Against the Dark Arts class per week.
The next class won't be until a whole week later!
This greatly annoyed Harry...
Throughout the day, during the morning Charms class and the afternoon History of Magic class, his good friend Ron kept bragging to the students around him about how he had delivered the final blow to Malfoy, which only deepened his frustration.
He couldn't wait to try flying on a broomstick—the thought of riding a broomstick through the sky and fighting people made his blood boil!
Of course, he also needs to master the methods of dealing with boars and red goblins before the Defense Against the Dark Arts class next week—this cannot be achieved by self-study in the thirty or forty minutes of Defense Against the Dark Arts class alone; he must practice in advance!
This thought was so strong that Harry was only able to stay awake during the ghost professor's history lesson because of it...
He didn't have much of an appetite for dinner. After grabbing two sandwiches from the auditorium, he and Ron asked for directions to the library, where they went back to search for books that could help him improve.
Mrs. Pince, the slender woman in the library with eyes as sharp as a hawk, gave them a stern reprimand for the commotion they caused while "fighting" with the two young Hufflepuff wizards over a book!
But this did not dampen Harry and Ron's enthusiasm.
"The library is definitely not a good place to practice, Harry!"
Ron rubbed his nose, wincing in pain (he had been punched while snatching the book).
"Let's go to the common room... as long as we're careful of the prefect—oh, that's Percy—the others won't interfere!"
"But I worry, can we really learn magic successfully by ourselves?"
Harry, panting, slung his own and Ron's backpacks over his shoulder.
"You know I grew up among Muggles, Ron, without any background."
"Don't worry, Harry, everyone's pretty much the same."
Harry's question did make Ron hesitate for a moment, but he quickly composed himself. He spoke with great enthusiasm,
"Oh, Ron Weasley from Gryffindor killed Draco Malfoy from Slytherin... What a wonderful moment... Remember to remind me to write to Mom and Dad tonight to tell them... Can I borrow your Hedwig for a moment, Harry?"
The two boys chatted excitedly all the way to the Gryffindor common room, dreaming of teaming up to dominate the next "Protect the Captain" competition and win 20 valuable house points for Gryffindor.
Upon entering the round room, which was filled with various bright red tapestries, Harry sensed a subtle anger permeating the tense atmosphere.
The few words that came through couldn't piece together the whole story. Harry's emerald eyes swept over and saw Petit, sitting on a sofa by the fireplace, talking intensely to Neville... The latter's expression was complex—a mixture of relief and sadness.
"That's really strange!"
Harry heard Ron say in a strange tone, looking in another direction.
"See? Harry, Fred, and George seem to be arguing... Oh, they're always so boisterous, but they get along really well. I've never seen them argue before... Shall we go check it out?"
So Harry put aside his doubts for the time being and followed Ron toward a chest of drawers against the wall.
"What's wrong?"
Ron blinked his eyes, which were filled with a mixture of confusion and bewilderment, as he looked at his two twin brothers.
"You two finally broke up?"
"Oh, when did you learn to meddle in other people's business?"
The twins immediately stopped arguing. Fred glanced at Ron sideways.
"Perhaps the thrill of fame has made him lose his head!"
George immediately added jokingly.
"Oh, George, it seems the Weasleys have produced another one who brings glory to the family, following in the footsteps of Prefect Percy?"
"I agree, Fred. Maybe we should ask Ronnie for his autograph before he becomes too famous?"
The twins took turns saying one sentence at a time, giving Ron no chance to speak, and in just a few words they made Ron blush.
But Harry knew the twins were just joking and meant no harm, so he simply stood aside and smiled at Ron's awkwardness.
"What's wrong with you?"
Ron shouted angrily at them.
"Why is everyone coming at me!"
Perhaps realizing that Ron was really angry, Fred and George stopped teasing him.
Don't even mention it—
Fred sighed and said,
"We've lost a lot of face."
"What's wrong?"
Harry asked on behalf of Ron, who was sulking and not saying anything.
"This afternoon we had a match against Hufflepuff—Professor Delfino's 'Protector Captain'... Ugh, Cedric Diggory really humiliated us!"
George also said sadly.
"Even in Quidditch, that handsome young man has never gotten this much of an advantage over us, has he... Did you see the look Professor McGonagall gave me at the end, George?"
Fred said,
"It absolutely sends chills down my spine!"
"yes-"
George nodded listlessly.
"She probably feels that we've embarrassed her... I think we'd better behave ourselves for the time being."
Oh!
Through Fred and George's back-and-forth conversation, Harry and Ron figured out what had happened.
"You two fought the 'Protect the Captain' with Hufflepuff, and you both lost, didn't you?"
Ron's cheeks flushed again as he desperately tried to control himself so as not to appear too smug.
"I don't know if you've heard—"
"Oh, even Hagrid's dogs and the centaurs of the Forbidden Forest have heard about it, my dear little Ronnie—"
Fred rolled his eyes.
"You killed that Malfoy brat, didn't you?"
Cherish it—
George pursed his lips.
"The next time you'll shine this brightly will probably be when you get married."
Just as Ron was about to refute their opinion, Petit and Neville ran over from the fireplace.
"Have you heard? Ron—and Harry?"
Petil glared at them both with righteous indignation.
"What?"
Harry was baffled by Pettier's temper.
"Oh, so you haven't heard of it yet—"
Petil said angrily,
"The news only spread after dinner: the school has ordered Professor Delfino to ban us first-year students from participating in the 'Protect the Captain' competition!"
"What?!"
Harry and Ron shouted in unison.
"It's said that it's because—oh, Professor Delfino has arrived—"
Neville stared wide-eyed in the direction of the portrait of the fat lady, where the gaunt Professor Delfino was stepping through the doorway.
"Maybe that's what he came here to explain."
