Chapter 322 Natasha confronts Steve
"It was fantastic, but... it caused a lot of damage." Tony made conversation, because he had a feeling that Lin Yi was acting differently.
It seems that attitudes toward him have changed somewhat?
Lin Yi smiled. Even though he had decided not to cooperate, he didn't show any displeasure. However, the familiarity he had before was gone.
Tony didn't think too much about it, assuming it was just because the battle had just ended and he hadn't recovered yet.
"You still care about this?" Lin Yi said, seemingly jokingly, and then didn't say anything more.
The transport ship arrived quickly, and the group boarded it and returned to Fragment Continent No. 083.
After eating some more barbecue skewers, Lin Yi made an excuse to go back and rest.
As for the room, it was arranged by Tony Stark.
It was originally planned to be located inside Stark Tower, because the building is so large that almost all of the buildings above 100 floors are residential areas, housing the relatives of most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe characters.
This gesture was also meant to express friendliness to Lin Yi and to show that he considered her one of his own. However, Lin Yi refused, insisting on staying outside, saying it was a bit awkward and he preferred a quieter, more independent place.
Tony didn't press the issue, but he felt that strange sense of alienation intensify.
Was it that Lin Yi didn't adjust well, or...?
Tony stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass window, watching Lin Yi and his group leave in front of Stark Tower.
"I feel like something's wrong," Natasha said suddenly, sitting on the sofa behind him.
Clint, who was sipping his tea, was taken aback when he heard this: "What's the problem?"
"There is indeed a problem." Banner, who had been playing a supporting role and had hardly spoken throughout, finally spoke up.
Banner was rather taciturn, so no one found it strange that he hadn't spoken. However, they didn't notice that Banner had been observing Lin Yi.
Tony turned around, looked at the two of them, and sighed.
If one person feels something is strange, it might be an illusion, but what about three?
"You shouldn't have done that," Natasha continued.
Banner nodded. "I agree, but it may be too late."
Clint panicked: "What are you talking about? I don't understand a word!"
"Xiao Na, explain this to me!"
Natasha pushed Clint away, who was leaning closer, and continued to stare at Tony: "You're a little too hasty, Tony."
"The answer we've been searching for all this time might really be in that person. You know, that's one of our few clues and hopes."
Natasha spoke calmly, in the same tone she used in casual conversation, but Tony could sense a hint of reproach in her voice.
Slightly frustrated, he scratched his head: "I know, I know. This wasn't my idea, was it? I did try to stop Steve."
"Just a few words of advice? Tony, is this the first time you've met Steve?" Natasha's eyes gradually sharpened, and her words became more impolite.
This shows that Natasha is not as gentle and kind as she is portrayed in the movie.
"Alright, alright, stop talking. What's done is done. Now we should think about how to salvage the situation." Banner quickly jumped in to smooth things over as the atmosphere grew increasingly tense.
"Remedy?" Tony asked rhetorically, then shook his head with difficulty, thinking of Jarvis's updated 3D model of Lin Yi.
"That's difficult, given his personality..."
"Would it work to provide some more advanced technology?" Banner pondered, offering his own thoughts.
"He's also from the Marvel Universe, and it's not that he's friends with you from that universe, so providing some advanced technology should be able to ease the situation somewhat."
Tony continued, "He did. He got a suit of armor, along with some unconventional new technology, but he was too wary and immediately guessed my other intention."
Banner was at a loss for words, frowning as he continued to think of any other solutions.
With a bang, the door was opened.
It was Steve, who walked in casually in tattered clothes and slumped onto the sofa.
"Fuck! How did that kid manage to chop that with an axe? I still feel dizzy." Steve rubbed his head and glanced at the group.
Whether it was Steve on the left or Steve on the right, they both immediately sensed that something was wrong.
"What's wrong? What did that kid say?"
"He didn't say, but I guess he did." Tony swirled the wine in his glass, turned his head, and continued looking out the window.
"What do you mean? Don't use tongue twisters."
Natasha leaned back on the sofa and glanced at him sideways: "What I mean is, your little tricks and intentions have all been discovered."
Steve immediately sat up straight: "How is that possible? That kid has only been in the Gap World for a few days! I deliberately distorted his perception using a cognitive bias device; there's no way he could have noticed!"
"Impossible? How many impossibilities have you mentioned?" Natasha sneered.
"To be honest, Steve, I've hardly ever seen you succeed. I really don't know why the captain has an individual like you."
Natasha shook her head, a hint of pity in her eyes as she looked at Steve.
"You are far inferior to the captain of my universe."
"What did you say?" Steve jumped up and stared at Natasha intently.
He considered himself the most powerful of all Steves, and immediately flew into a rage upon hearing this.
Didn't you hear me? Do I need to repeat it?
"You are not as good as him. Do you understand this time?" Natasha stood up without fear and stared at Steve. The temperature around her dropped rapidly, even freezing water vapor into ice crystals, which drifted around Natasha like snowflakes.
"You!" Steve's right fist clenched so tightly it cracked, and his chest heaved violently.
"How is it?" Natasha looked her up and down, adding with a playful tone, "Oh, no, I might have misspoke."
"You're not only inferior to that captain, in my mind, you're not even as good as any of Steves."
"That's right, you're the worst Steve ever, in every way. Did you hear me? In every way!" Natasha said, enunciating each word clearly and without mercy.
"roar!"
Steve couldn't hold back any longer. His face turned red with anger, and he flipped the table over.
"They can't beat me, so you're saying I'm inferior to them!"
The table was flipped onto the roof, smashed to pieces, and crashed to the ground.
Natasha glanced at the shattered table, a hint of pity returning to her eyes.
"So what? Poor Steve, besides your brute strength which is somewhat useful, what else do you have?"
Is it your arrogance? Or your recklessness?
"Have you ever calculated how many times your recklessness has ruined plans?"
"I! You..." Steve's right hand trembled with anger, but he was too afraid to continue.
Why? Because this wasn't the first time Natasha had confronted him. He hadn't bothered to record those foolish moments, but Natasha had meticulously documented every single one of them.
He would admit in his heart that he had caused the plans to change and fail more than once, but he would never admit it aloud.
