Chapter 604 What else can you do?
“You didn’t have to do this, Christine,” Strange said as he ran. “Prisoner kidnapping, system hacking. Everything you have in this universe is ruined. Your career, your status, the Illuminati will put you on their most wanted list.”
"I quit," Christine said nonchalantly. "I'm fed up with working for these self-important bastards. They'll kill without any moral boundaries for the sake of some so-called possibility. I don't want to be their accomplice anymore."
She stopped and turned to look Strange in the eye.
"Besides, I just accepted a ring. I can't let my fiancé be executed on the very first day of our engagement, can I?"
Strange looked at her, and couldn't resist leaning forward to gently kiss her forehead.
"This is the most romantic reason I've ever heard."
"Stop talking nonsense and get going." Christine pushed him away, her face flushed.
The two finally reached the exit of the underground parking garage.
Christine's silver-gray hovercar was quietly parked in its designated parking space.
"Get in!" Christine opened the car door.
The two quickly climbed into the car.
Christine started the engine and plugged the controller into the vehicle's system.
"Switch to manual concealment mode and turn off all external location signals. Activate autopilot and set the target to the emergency plan coordinates."
The hovercar emitted a low rumble as it sped out of the underground parking garage like a ghost and merged into the bustling airspace above New York City.
The Illuminati Building receded further and further behind them.
Neon lights flashed all over the city, and New York was still bustling with traffic at night. No one knew that a thrilling escape had just taken place in that solemn building.
Christine leaned back in her chair and let out a long sigh of relief.
Her hands were still trembling slightly, and only then did a wave of fear wash over her.
The hovercar flew smoothly in autonomous driving mode.
The carriage was quiet, with only the faint sound of the engine.
Strange turned his head and stared intently at Christine's profile.
He just stared at her, not even blinking, as if he were seeing this woman for the first time.
Christine felt a little uncomfortable under his gaze and turned to meet his eyes.
"What?" Christine raised an eyebrow. "Not the same Christine you used to be? Regretting it?"
"No," Strange shook his head, smiling gently. "I love you even more now."
Upon hearing this, Christine gave a proud and charming smile.
"You're smart to know what's good for you."
She brushed a stray hair from her ear and began to explain her plan in an orderly manner.
"There are spare clothes and cash in the car. We'll go to the safe house to change first, then burn the car and cut off all tracking signals."
"I have a considerable sum of money in my Swiss bank account, enough for us to buy a small farm in Europe or South America. Let's stay away from these superheroes."
Christine became more and more excited as she spoke, her eyes sparkling with anticipation for the future.
Strange listened quietly, a faint smile playing on his lips.
I don't care where we go as long as I can be with her.
Just as the two were immersed in their beautiful dreams for the future.
boom!
A golden beam of magic descended from the sky and struck the hovercar's right engine precisely.
The entire vehicle shook violently, and the flames illuminated the night sky.
"Warning! Left thruster severely damaged. Power loss." The flying vehicle issued an alarm.
Thick smoke billowed from inside the carriage.
The flying car lost its balance, began to spin in the air, and crashed towards the building below.
"Hold on tight!" Christine yelled, gripping the joystick tightly in an attempt to control the car's attitude, but to no avail.
Strange quickly unbuckled his seatbelt, leaned forward, and used his body to firmly shield Christine beneath him.
The vehicle crashed into the roof of a warehouse, rolled a dozen times on the concrete ground, and finally came to a stop after hitting a load-bearing pillar.
Thick smoke billowed and flames flickered.
The carriage was severely deformed, and all the airbags deployed.
Strange pushed aside the wreckage of the car door that was pressing down on him, and struggled to climb out with Christine in his arms, coughing incessantly from the dust.
"Christine!"
"Are you alright, Christine? Look at me!" Strange patted her cheek.
"I'm fine... I'm just a little dizzy..." Christine had blood streaming down her forehead and was somewhat disoriented.
Strange breathed a sigh of relief.
He helped Christine to her feet and cautiously looked around.
"It was truly a moving escape drama."
Mordo, dressed in a mage's robe, slowly emerged from the shadows, his hands tucked into his sleeves. He coldly observed the two disheveled figures.
"Dr. Palmer, I thought you were a smart man. But you betrayed the Illuminati and the universe for the sake of a sinful person, and ruined your own life in the process."
Modu shook his head, looking regretful.
"Don't use the universe as an excuse," Christine said through gritted teeth, rubbing her forehead. "You're just used to controlling everything. You don't allow anything to exist that isn't under your control."
"Order must be maintained." Mordo ignored her accusations and looked at Strange. "And you, Stephen. In any universe, you only bring disaster to those around you. Look at Christine now, is this what you call love?"
"I'm warning you again, Mordo, don't target Christine..." Strange's gaze gradually turned cold. "I have no intention of being an enemy of your Illuminati."
"Heh, maybe... but it's no use, this is a personal grudge now," Mordo said with a mocking laugh.
"The Illuminati gave you a chance to die with dignity. But you insisted on dragging her down to hell with you. Now, you will both be executed on the spot for endangering the safety of the universe."
Strange stared blankly at Mordo, his hands hanging naturally at his sides.
"Are you done, Mordo?"
"What? Did you hit a nerve?" Mordo sneered, his gaze sweeping over the anti-magic bracelet on Strange's wrist.
"Besides, what can you possibly accomplish now? You're just an ordinary person with your magic circuits sealed. You can't even produce a spark."
Mordo spread his arms wide, his posture arrogant. "Tell me, Stephen. What can you possibly do against me?"
"Heh..." He chuckled contemptuously. "Want to come over and give me an elbow strike?"
"it's over."
Mordo lost interest in continuing his mockery, and magical energy condensed in his hand, transforming into the Seraphim Sword.
"Since you're so eager to be together, then I'll send you both to hell."
Strange looked at the approaching magic sword, his tone frighteningly calm: "Mordo, your greatest weakness has always been your shortsightedness."
"...You forgot something."
"What?" Mordo narrowed his eyes.
Strange looked down and then up, a slight chill creeping across his face.
"I am not Stephen Strange of your universe."
"In that universe... magic was never the only way for me to solve problems."
Done.
Clang!
Two vibranium mantis blades, radiating a cold, eerie blue light, suddenly sprang from his forearm!
