Become a Homelander and a Marvel superstar
Chapter 251 You're just fooling yourself
"Yes!! That's amazing!!"
Harley jumped up excitedly, and without caring about the occasion, she hung herself around Azu's neck and gave him a big kiss on his handsome face.
"I knew you were the best! Love you! Sweetheart! You can call me Little Pumpkin now!"
"I'll keep calling you that, little pumpkin." Ah Zu patted her waist.
"No!"
Bruce Wayne slammed his hand on the table, his voice stern.
"Absolutely not! Homelander, you have no idea how terrifying Superman is!"
"And it's not just a matter of strength! Our enemies include Darkseid, and the entire legion of Apokolips!"
"We only have one chance!" Bruce stared at Azu. "One chance to correct all our mistakes. We can't gamble that on your individual heroism!"
"Correcting errors?" Azu narrowed his eyes, grasping the key point in the question, and looked directly at Bruce.
"Tell me, what is your opportunity?"
Bruce glanced at Cyborg and The Flash.
The three exchanged a glance, and finally Bruce nodded. He knew he had to persuade this powerful outsider.
Steelbone walked up to a huge instrument covered by a canvas and yanked the cloth off.
It was an extremely complex-looking mechanical device. Huge rotating wheels, dense coils, and a control panel connected to countless pipes.
"This is a cosmic treadmill."
Bruce explained.
"Our plan is not to defeat Superman. Because at this point, we have already lost."
Our goal is... to restart.
"And at the heart of the plan is The Flash." He pointed to Barry Allen beside him.
"Barry has a magical power called the Speed Force. If he is fast enough, he can reverse time and go back to the past."
"Our goal is to have him use the cosmic treadmill to go back to the day Metropolis fell, or even earlier, to the moment the Batcave was attacked."
"To prevent that tragedy from happening."
"As long as Lois is alive, Superman will not fall, the Justice League will not disintegrate, and Darkseid's invasion will be kept out."
"None of this... this hellish future will exist."
Bruce explained the core of the plan in one breath.
"But," Cyborg added, "the cosmic treadmill isn't the kind of elevator you can just press a button to teleport."
"It needs to store energy."
"When Barry ran and accelerated on it, he couldn't move or stop."
That was when he was most vulnerable.
"And I need to connect directly to the treadmill's main unit and set its landing time and coordinates."
"During this process, I was also unable to fight."
Steel Bone pointed to the top of his head.
"Once the cosmic treadmill starts, the enormous energy fluctuations released by the Speed Force are like lighting a flare in the dark."
"Superman's superhuman senses would capture us in an instant."
"He'll fly here from Metropolis in seconds and kill us all before Barry crosses the border."
"So, we need Kryptonite," Bruce continued, his eyes resolute.
Even if it only weakens him a little, even if it only stops him for a minute.
"That's our only chance of winning."
After saying that, Bruce looked at Azu, waiting for his response.
A brief silence fell over the hall.
"ha……"
Azu suddenly chuckled.
"You're just going to tell me such an important plan to someone you've only just met?"
"What if I'm a spy sent by that imposter?"
"What if I'm Darkseid's henchman?"
"With your lack of secrecy, no wonder you lost so badly."
"At this moment, there's no way out except through faith," Bruce said, looking directly at Azu. "I have no choice. My gut tells me you're not one of his men."
Azu shook his head, his face showing even more mockery.
"Forgive me for being blunt, Batman."
"Your so-called plan to save the world is utterly foolish."
"So stupid that I thought this was the idea of an elementary school student who hadn't graduated."
"What do you mean?" Barry Allen couldn't help but interject.
"Have you considered the consequences?"
Azu walked around the unfinished cosmic treadmill, gently tapping the metal casing with his fingers.
"There is a very simple logical paradox here."
"What if this fast-moving kid really did travel back in time, save that woman named Louise, and change history?"
"So..."
Ah Zu pointed to the dilapidated walls around him and to the scars on everyone's bodies.
"...What will happen to 'us' here?"
"If the past had been changed, then this desperate timeline wouldn't exist. If it never existed, then the future Flash wouldn't have gone back to save people."
"You can't possibly be unaware of this simplest grandfather paradox," Azu continued, ignoring Bruce's increasingly grim expression.
"Your so-called attempts to change the past cannot save the world today."
"You will only create a new timeline, a parallel universe."
"In that new timeline, everyone was probably very happy. Louise was alive, the child was born, and everyone was having a picnic in the sun."
"But what about here?"
Azu stomped his foot, and the ground trembled.
"This damned wasteland! This world full of ashes and corpses! It still exists!"
"The suffering here will not disappear!"
"And you, you're just running away!" Azu pointed at Bruce's nose, mercilessly tearing open the scars in his heart.
"You want to create a beautiful dream, then hide inside it and pretend none of this ever happened."
"And the price... is to completely abandon this world, and everyone here!"
"And the remaining billion or so people are dying in pain and torment because of your inaction..."
Bruce's face turned deathly pale.
His body trembled slightly, and a trace of pain flashed in his eyes.
Does he know?
As one of the smartest people in the world, how could he not know about the theories of the multiverse and time branches?
But he could only gamble, gamble that the Flash could rewrite reality and overwrite this flawed timeline.
Because apart from that, he really didn't know how to win.
"No... once Flashpoint occurs, reality will be rewritten..." Bruce tried to argue.
"You're just fooling yourself!"
Azu rudely interrupted him.
"I've seen the multiverse, Batman. I know how time works."
Those who toy with time will ultimately be destroyed by time!
That's the key point. If we let the Flash go back and mess with the timeline, and he actually creates a Flashpoint, the entire universe will be reset.
Who knows if Homelander will even have a place in the reset DC universe? What if he's been erased from time?
"It's your behavior that needs to be corrected!"
Azu's eyes suddenly lit up with a red light.
