Become a Homelander and a Marvel superstar
Chapter 246, shall we?
The SUV came to an abrupt stop on the gravel-strewn ground, its tires kicking up a cloud of choking yellow dust.
The car door opened, and Cyborg Victor Stone stepped out. His red electronic eyes scanned the surrounding ruins, finally settling on Bruce's weary face.
"Don't waste your energy, Bruce."
Steelbone got straight to the point, without any pleasantries.
"I intercepted encrypted communications from the Superman regime. Those so-called black market leads were all traps. All the Kryptonite dealers were wiped out three days ago, and their heads are now being displayed in the square of Metropolis."
Upon hearing this, Bruce tightened his grip on the rifle slightly.
"So the signal we received was a decoy..."
"That's right, it's a trap to lure out the hiding rebels and wipe them out in one fell swoop," Cyborg continued. "I deciphered the signal and tracked them here. It seems I've arrived just in time."
At this moment, the man who got out of the passenger seat took off his tactical helmet, revealing white hair and a single eye.
Slade Wilson, the death knell.
The world's deadliest mercenary was leisurely slinging his assault rifle over his back, watching the slightly disheveled Batman with interest.
"Looks like our Dark Knight's luck has really run out." Slade looked around at the Parademon corpses and charred marks scattered on the ground and said sarcastically.
"What? Now you even have to take care of that crazy woman yourself?"
Bruce gave him a cold look, threw the empty magazine on the ground, and reloaded it.
"If you're here to collect a debt, Slade, you'll have to wait in line," Bruce said in a deep voice. "I'm bankrupt now. Wayne Enterprises' assets are worthless, and I don't have the money to pay you."
"money?"
Slade sneered, pulled a cigar from his tactical vest, didn't light it, just chewed on the pungent tobacco.
"Look at this world, bat. Dollars are too hard to even wipe your ass with now. Those alien bastards ruined my business and turned my Swiss bank account into a string of meaningless numbers."
He spat out the tobacco crumbs from his mouth, his single eye gleaming coldly.
"I'm here only to get revenge for my money! Killing those aliens is my only pleasure now."
After saying that, Slade's gaze passed over Bruce and landed on Azu, who was being "harassed" by Harley.
"What's this? Your new Robin?"
Slade turned to Bruce and pointed to Azu's conspicuous attire.
"And, Bat, I must say your taste is getting weirder and weirder. Do you have some kind of peculiar fetish for that alien savior?"
"You actually commissioned a uniform for your new henchman that pays homage to that alien dictator?"
"What is this? Some kind of twisted psychological compensation? Although some patriotic elements have been added..."
Upon hearing this, Ah Zu, who had been maintaining a standard smile the whole time, raised his eyebrows slightly.
He released his arms from Harley's embrace, and his body slowly floated up, keeping himself three feet above Deathstroke's head.
"Watch your tone, One-Eyed."
Azu looked down at Slade.
"Your sense of humor is like your eye—it's missing half."
"In this world, anyone who dares to speak of me like that is usually someone I won't let live to see the next second."
Two dangerous red lights flashed in Azu's eyes.
Slade's hand instantly gripped the hilt of his sword, his muscles tensing. As one of the world's top mercenaries, his sense of danger was sharper than that of a wild beast.
"Alright! Stop, everyone!"
Bruce Wayne stepped between the two, making a pushing motion with both hands.
"We have enough enemies now; we don't need to create more internal strife."
He turned to look at Ah Zu, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
"Since you're wearing these clothes and possess that power... are you really completely unrelated to 'him'?"
"he?"
Azu landed back on the ground, his brows furrowed slightly, showing his annoyance with the topic.
"It sounds like you guys have been saying that guy who looks a lot like me... has given you quite a bit of psychological trauma?"
"I'm really interested in that imposter now. So... could you introduce me to him?"
"Yes! Yes!!"
Harley Quinn jumped out from the side, still waving the bent baseball bat in her hand.
"My Mr. Candy is going to beat up that big blue guy!!"
She circled around Azu like a cheerleader captain, dancing a supportive dance.
"I want to see! I want to see you pull down his underwear and shove it into his mouth! That would be so cool!"
"Harley, be quiet."
Bruce watched this scene and shook his head helplessly.
"No matter who you are, Homelander."
"I don't know where you come from, but I'm sure you're not from this world. Or rather... you haven't been back to Earth in a long time."
"You have no idea what we're facing."
"In our world, Superman is invincible; he is a god. But when he fell, he became a god of destruction without any moral constraints."
"Without kryptonite, we can't even scratch his skin."
Bruce paused for a moment at this point.
His keen detective instincts caught a logical contradiction.
The man in front of me claimed to be from Earth, and he was wearing clothing with prominent American flag elements.
But he knows nothing about Superman? He even calls Superman a "fake"?
In this world, there is no one who doesn't know Superman, unless...
Parallel universe.
Or... a branch of the timeline.
The Flash once warned him that time can be altered. Could this man be from another timeline without Superman, or perhaps Superman is a different version of himself?
Bruce's mind raced, analyzing all the possibilities. But the current situation didn't allow him to engage in much academic discussion.
On the distant horizon, the shadowy silhouettes of the Parademon reinforcements were already faintly visible.
He gathered his thoughts, looked at Azu, and his eyes became extremely solemn.
"Listen, it's not safe here. If we keep talking nonsense, he'll fall from the sky and burn us all to ashes."
"Since you claim to be an Earthling, this Earth is currently bleeding, and humanity is on the verge of extinction."
"We need help, we need you."
"Will you come?"
This is an invitation, and also a test.
All eyes were on Azu.
Azu didn't rush to answer. He looked at Bruce's weathered and stubble-covered face, which was older and more tired than he remembered, but also more ruthless.
This world may seem utterly rotten, with a drastically reduced population. But it is precisely because of this despair that people need faith and a savior even more.
If it can save the world, the popularity gained will be enormous.
"certainly."
Azu gave a flawless smile.
"Helping my fellow citizens is my duty. After all, I am a professional hero, and that's written in my job description."
Even if it's just for...
As he spoke, his gaze shifted downwards and landed on Harley Quinn, who looked on with anticipation.
"Harley!" Harley Quinn immediately understood and called out happily, "My name is Harley Quinn! Mr. Candy!"
"Oh, yes..." Azu smiled slightly, "even if it's just for this charming Miss Harley Quinn."
