Become a Homelander and a Marvel superstar
Chapter 243 Let's see what I found!
"Oh, sure, that green glowing stone." Harley whistled, her eyes darting through the ruins. "If we find it, could we also get a hamburger? Or maybe a rat? I'm starving."
"Shhh."
Bruce suddenly raised his fist to signal to stop.
It was too quiet around us.
"There's an ambush."
Batman's intuition was honed through countless brushes with death. He whirled around, grabbed Harley by the collar, and tumbled to the side.
"boom--!"
A high-explosive shell pierced the wall they had just been leaning against, and the concrete shattered under the high-energy impact.
"Enemy attack!! Position: 12 o'clock!"
Bruce rolled on the ground, knelt on one knee, raised his rifle, and pulled the trigger into the shadows.
"Bang bang bang!"
Specially made explosive bullets detonated in the darkness, illuminating the silhouettes of the ambush group.
It was a squad of superhuman commando soldiers clad in black armor and wearing red "S" armbands. They were advancing in formation, armed with energy rifles modified with alien technology.
Above them, dozens of winged demons swooped down, emitting piercing screams.
"Ha! That's more like it! This is what a party should be like!"
Harley wasn't afraid at all; instead, she let out a sharp, maniacal laugh. She leaped to her feet, hoisted the massive grenade launcher, and fired a shot at the charging soldiers.
"Take this, you bastards, my special Quinn-style attack!"
The grenades exploded among the soldiers, but these soldiers, brainwashed by the Anti-Life Equation, showed no fear. They continued their advance despite the flames.
"Shit! These guys are even more fanatical than EM fans!" Harley cursed, throwing away the empty launcher and pulling out the baseball bat from her back.
"We need to retreat! Harley! Run into the subway station!" Bruce threw a smoke bomb, trying to block the Parademons' vision.
"Retreat? Retreat isn't in my dictionary! Only fight, and fight even more relentlessly!"
"Hahaha! Come on! You flying cockroaches!!"
Harley let out a maniacal laugh, swinging her baseball bat in a wide arc through the air with a whistling sound, and slammed it hard into the head of a Parademon.
"Bang!"
The demonic helmet caved in along with its head, and deep purple blood splattered everywhere.
"Ha! Home run!!" Harley landed, rolled to dissipate the force, and casually drew her large-caliber revolver from her waist, firing a shot behind her without even looking.
"Bang!"
A Parademon that was about to ambush her had its head blown off, and then she frantically pulled the trigger at the Parademon that charged at her.
That thought lingered in her mind for months.
The scene of the helicopter haunted her like a nightmare.
At that moment, Gotham was burning, the Joker was sitting in a helicopter, and she reached out her hand, thinking that "Pudding," whom she had loved all her life, would pull her up.
But the man just stared at her coldly, then kicked her in the face.
At that moment, Harley Quinn, who loved the Joker, fell to her death. Now, only a vengeful ghost remains alive.
"Die! Die! All of you, die!"
Harley threw away her empty gun, pulled out a grenade, stuffed it into the mouth of a Parademon, and then kicked it into the enemy ranks.
"boom--!"
The explosion knocked over four or five Parademons.
"Harley! Stop fighting! We need to break out!"
Bruce snapped the neck of a Parademon, then threw three batarangs, precisely severing the gun barrels of three commando soldiers in the distance.
"Break through? Break through where?!"
Harley screamed as her denim jacket was torn by claws and a deep, bone-revealing gash appeared on her arm, but she seemed oblivious to the pain.
"These flies are everywhere!!"
indeed.
The encirclement is shrinking.
The superhuman commando team on the ground set up heavy energy cannons.
"Buzz—"
A thick beam of energy struck the ruins beneath their feet.
Their footing collapsed, and the two fell to the ground in a sorry state.
Before they could even get their footing, dozens more Parademons pounced on them.
"We're going to die here, little bat."
Harley leaned against Bruce, the baseball bat in her hand bent and deformed.
"Listen." Bruce pulled out the last smoke grenade and high-explosive plastic bomb from his belt.
"I'm going to detonate this place. When the smoke rises, jump down and run east along the sewers. There's a backup exit there."
"And what about you?"
"I'll hold them off," Bruce said firmly.
"Tch! Male chauvinist."
Harley pouted.
She glanced around and saw a gigantic Parademon leader holding a spear, quietly circling around to Bruce's side and rear, preparing to launch a fatal attack.
Bruce was busy setting the bomb and had no time to look behind him.
In that instant, Harley made her choice.
She didn't want to owe anyone anything, especially men.
And... if I die here, perhaps I can escape that nightmare.
"This time, it's my turn to be the hero."
Harley suddenly shoved Bruce aside.
"Harley?!" Bruce exclaimed.
Harley charged toward the Parademon leader, not dodging the thrusting spear, but instead spreading her arms as if embracing death.
"Pfft!"
The spear pierced her abdomen.
"Gotcha, you ugly freak."
Blood gushed from Harley's mouth, but she revealed a sinister smile.
She pulled the pin on the grenade and shoved it into the Parademon leader's mouth.
"Surprise!!!"
"BOOM—!!"
Flames shot into the sky.
The massive shockwave blasted away all the surrounding Parademons, and the leader was blown to pieces.
Harley's petite body, like a tattered leaf, was thrown into the air by the blast wave and then fell helplessly to the ground.
Her consciousness began to fade.
Is this what death is?
It doesn't seem... that cold.
It even felt somewhat warm.
"Um?"
Harley struggled to open her blood-covered eyes, and through her blurred vision, she saw a face.
Golden hair, a perfect jawline, and those deep blue eyes.
She was being held gently in a pair of strong arms.
"Wow..."
The man spoke, his voice a magnetic, well-trained tone, full of charm.
"Look what I found."
"An injured little stray kitten?"
Ah Zu looked down at the woman in his arms.
Is this Harley Quinn? The crazy, eccentric Harley Quinn?
She looked truly pitiful. Her face was covered in blood and dust, and her clothes were tattered, revealing large patches of her pale and scarred skin.
“Who…who are you?”
Harley coughed up blood and asked weakly.
"Who I am doesn't matter, sweetheart."
Azu extended his thumb and gently wiped away the blood from Harley's mouth.
"The important thing is..."
"You look like you really need a hug."
