Become a Homelander and a Marvel superstar
Chapter 208 What happened to those you replaced?
Azu returned to his seat, looking at Fury's single, desperate eye.
"The Earth can only be saved by Earthlings themselves."
"And now, this Earthling is called a Homelander."
Fury fell completely silent.
He slumped into the chair, the light in his eyes dimming.
Looking back over the past twenty years, every time Earth faced a crisis, he subconsciously wanted to press that button, but he always held back.
He told himself that this was to save his trump card for last.
But now that I think about it... maybe subconsciously, he was also afraid.
I was afraid that after pressing the button, no one would respond.
If what Homelander says is true...
What he did was not only a joke, but a disaster.
He let the wolf into the house, yet he was still smug about it.
a long time.
Fury stood up from his chair, picked up the documents on the table, his face expressionless, but his slightly trembling fingers betrayed his inner turmoil.
"I need to go back first... and confirm with them."
"what ever."
Azu waved his hand dismissively, turned his chair around, and stopped looking at him.
"Anyway, once I finish what I'm doing, I'll start cleaning up these alien goblins."
"certainly……"
Azu turned his head to the side, showing Fury his profile.
"If you can handle them, that would be best."
"Make them come to me voluntarily to confess, hand over the list, and follow Walter's instructions."
"In that case...they might still have a glimmer of hope."
Fury didn't say anything more.
He turned silently and walked heavily out of the office.
……
After Fury left.
Tianwang said this while tidying up Azu's desktop.
"Sir, I think I need to remind you."
"The data collected by the T-850 robots that have infiltrated all levels of society, after cross-referencing..."
"The first few hundred names on this list can be confirmed with 99.99% certainty as Skrull variants. But the remaining thousands..."
"There is no conclusive evidence that they are also Skrulls."
"So what?"
Azu looked in the direction Fury had left and said indifferently.
"For someone as suspicious and arrogant as Nick Fury."
"Even a 1% accuracy rate is enough to make him doubt the whole world."
……
Brooklyn, an underground air-raid shelter.
One of Fury's secret hideouts.
"Bang!"
A loud bang.
The heavy iron door was kicked open roughly.
Talos was startled and looked up.
Nick Fury stormed in, his face grim and filled with barely suppressed rage.
"Fury?" Talos stood up, somewhat surprised. "What happened? Didn't you reach an agreement with Homelander?"
"Snapped!"
A list was slammed onto the table in front of Talos.
"Take a look at this."
Fury pointed to the list on the table, his single eye blazing with barely suppressed rage.
Tell me, Talos. What is this?
Talos picked up the document with a puzzled look.
"Explain."
He turned to the first page.
Those were some familiar names and photos; they were the ones he had tacitly allowed to infiltrate.
He turned to the second page.
It's still a familiar name.
Page 3... Page 4...
Talos's fingers stopped.
He didn't flip through the list any further; he simply closed it and let out a long sigh.
"It seems... you already know."
Talos's tone was surprisingly calm, offering neither explanation nor panic.
This only made Fury angrier.
"You know that?!"
"You actually admitted it?!"
"Are these lists... real?"
"The first few pages are true." Talos pushed the document back. "There are some parts later that I'm not sure about, but they should be pretty much true too."
"Damn it!"
Fury slammed his fist on the table.
"Tell me, Talos! How many Skrulls are there on Earth right now?!"
Talos remained silent for a moment.
He looked at his old friend, with whom he had fought side by side for more than twenty years.
In the end, he chose to tell the truth.
"all."
"What?" Fury frowned, seemingly not understanding.
"You mean...all of them? All the remaining survivors?"
"Yes." Talos nodded.
"You mean…" Fury's voice suddenly rose, filled with incredulous horror, "There are a million Skrulls on Earth right now?!"
One million! This number hit Fury like a hammer blow to the head.
A million alien creatures, capable of transforming into anyone at will and possessing superhuman strength and endurance, are lurking right under his nose!
"Are you insane?! Talos!"
Fury roared, drew his pistol from his waist, and pointed it at Talos's head.
"What do you want to do? Start a war?!"
Talos did not flinch when faced with the dark muzzle of the gun.
He stood up, and anger ignited in his once gentle eyes.
"I did all this because you didn't keep your promise, Fury!"
Talos roared back, his voice even louder than Fury's.
He walked step by step toward Fury and pressed his forehead against the muzzle of the gun.
"You promised us back then! As long as we listened to you, you would help us find a new home!"
"We believe you!"
"We've worked for you for over twenty years! We've done all sorts of dirty work for you, helping you climb from a lowly agent to the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.!"
"You're no king of spies at all! Without the Skrulls' help, you'd be dead in some ditch long ago!"
"But how have you repaid us?"
Talos pointed at Fury, his eyes filled with disappointment.
"For over twenty years, you haven't given us a single piece of information about a new home, and now you can't even stay at S.H.I.E.L.D.!"
"Look at yourself now! A fugitive wanted worldwide! Forced to hide in a dark, sunless rat hole!"
"How can you expect us to still be able to help us find our way home?!"
"If we don't find a way ourselves, my people will all die out in the universe!"
Fury's hand holding the gun trembled slightly.
He wanted to argue, but found himself speechless.
Because what Talos said was true. He did indeed take advantage of them, and he did indeed... break his promise.
"So this is your plan?" Fury gritted his teeth. "To turn Earth into your new home?"
"My dream is simple, Fury," Talos said, his tone softening slightly.
"I just hope that the Skrulls can live in peace with humans."
"Peaceful coexistence?!"
Fury seemed to have heard the biggest joke in the world.
"Talos, you've lived on Earth for so long, haven't you seen through humanity yet?"
"Humans can't even fully coexist with each other! Do you think they can tolerate an alien species like you?"
He stepped forward and stared intently at Talos.
"And what you call peaceful coexistence—does it mean replacing humanity?"
"What about those people you replaced?"
"Where did they go? Were they killed? Or thrown into space?"
Talos looked into Fury's eyes and said earnestly, "We've known each other for so many years, you know what I'm like, Fury. I'm not a butcher."
"We built a shelter in Chernobyl, and we called it 'New Scyllas'."
"There is radiation there, and humans cannot get close, but it is a natural barrier for us."
"All the replaced humans were transferred there."
"They were put into life support pods and placed in a state of deep hibernation."
