Azu spread his hands dismissively.

"A bunch of Nazi remnants who only know how to hide in the gutter and carry out assassinations and infiltrations."

"What can they do? Blow up a few buildings? Kill a few politicians? Or create a few super soldiers like the Winter Soldier?"

"These are like cockroaches in my kitchen. I can stomp them to death anytime."

"On the contrary, it's you, Fury." Azu's eyes sharpened.

"You keep saying it's to protect the Earth."

"But look at all these doomsday crises Earth has faced in recent years, how many of them have had nothing to do with your damn S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Avengers?"

"If you hadn't been messing around with that Tesseract, the Battle of New York would never have happened."

"...You even gathered a group of gifted children together and used them as Hydra's experimental subjects."

Azu slammed his hand on the table and hissed.

"The greatest threat on this planet is not Hydra, nor is it any aliens."

"It's you, Nick Fury."

Fury's expression changed. He clenched his fists, wanting to retort, but found himself speechless.

From a consequentialist perspective, every word Azu said was true.

"That's to prepare for a higher level of warfare!" Fury argued through gritted teeth. "We must possess the weapons to confront advanced civilizations! Sacrifice and risk are inevitable in this process!"

"risk?"

Azu sneered.

"I heard you've recently brought in a new batch of 'risks'?"

He picked up a document from the table and flipped through it casually.

"A group of alien refugees who can shapeshift and disguise themselves."

"You brought them back to Earth. What are you planning, Fury? Are you trying to give them Earth as their new home?"

"Those are Skrulls," Fury said in a deep voice. "They are my allies. They would never dare to act recklessly without my orders."

"Everything is under my control."

"Control?"

"Ha ha ha ha--!"

Ah Zu laughed heartily, his laughter echoing in the empty office, full of irony.

"Come on, Fury. You don't even know how many of your men are Hydra agents, and you're talking to me about control?"

"You don't even have the ability to distinguish them!"

"If I told you now that the person sitting across from you isn't me, but a Skrull who has become me, could you tell the difference?"

Fury fell silent. He truly couldn't tell, and this had always been a source of anxiety for him.

"I have a trump card." Fury was still struggling; it was his last shred of dignity. "I have a trump card that they would never dare to betray me."

"If the situation really gets out of control, I have a way to resolve it..."

"I know," Azu interrupted him. "Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel."

Upon hearing this name, Fury was completely unsettled.

He stood up abruptly, the chair scraping against the floor with a screeching sound.

"How do you know her name?! This is..."

"But what? Level 10 access? Or your biggest secret?"

Azu walked around the desk, stood in front of Fury, and patted him on the stiff shoulder.

"Fury, don't judge me with your narrow-minded perspective."

I know far more than you think.

"Don't mistake your paranoia for clarity, Fury."

"I'll return this to you now... This world is far more complex and dangerous than you imagine."

"Your so-called trump card is nothing in the face of a real crisis!"

Fury's breathing became rapid.

"Carol can handle everything!" he persisted. "She's the strongest warrior in the universe! As long as she comes back..."

"You'll mess everything up before that happens!"

Azu interrupted him again, slamming a thick document onto the table.

"Snapped!"

The documents slid to Fury's face and scattered.

The page was covered with photos, names, and job titles.

"Do you know how many humans those aliens have replaced?" Azu asked coldly.

Fury glanced at the document and instinctively retorted, "They wouldn't dare without my orders. Besides, there are only a little over a hundred Skrulls on Earth, and Talos assured me that..."

"More than a hundred?"

Ah Zu laughed, a laugh that sent chills down your spine.

"Did you actually investigate? Or are you so enjoying the feeling of giving orders that you've forgotten the most basic principle of suspicion that a spy should have?"

"Take a look."

Fury picked up the list with trembling hands.

Page 1: Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Pentagon.

Page 2: The Director of MI6 (British Military Intelligence Bureau).

Page 3: CIA Senior Agent.

Page 4: European government officials.

……

The list is so long it's despair-inducing.

"This...this is impossible..."

Fury flipped through the papers, cold sweat trickling down his forehead.

There are at least several thousand names involved, spanning various fields including politics, military affairs, and economics.

"Talos promised me...they wouldn't..."

"impossible?"

Azu raised an eyebrow and tapped his finger on the list in front of him.

"The actual number is likely much higher!"

"I don't believe that someone with your intelligence couldn't have come up with these results."

"They possess shapeshifting abilities and technology far surpassing Earth's. They can help you infiltrate any organization, obtain any intelligence, capture any enemy, and accomplish all sorts of impossible missions."

"It was thanks to them that you rose from a lowly Level 3 agent to become the so-called King of Agents, and then... the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D."

"You enjoy this feeling of being in control, so you selectively ignore the risks."

"But you need to know, Fury."

Azu pressed down on Fury's shoulder, his fingers applying slight pressure, almost crushing his bones.

"When your abilities don't match your power, you will be devoured by that power."

Your current situation is the best proof of that!

"S.H.I.E.L.D. has collapsed, Hydra has retaliated, and your alien 'allies' are quietly taking over the world right under your nose through this method."

Fury's face turned deathly pale, the color of his own collapse.

He always believed he was using the Skrulls.

Little did he know that he was the one being used as a stepping stone.

"How dare they..." Fury muttered to himself, his voice hollow, "Aren't they afraid...?"

"What are you afraid of?" Azu chimed in, "Are you afraid of Carol?"

Fury didn't speak, but the glimmer of hope in his eyes betrayed him.

"Fury, you've spent your whole life placing your hopes on others."

Azu shook his head, his tone full of pity.

"Especially those who place their hopes on aliens."

"No! Carol isn't an alien!" Fury retorted. "She's Earth! She's one of ours..."

"She's from outer space!"

Azu ruthlessly shattered his illusions.

"Wake up, Fury."

"You think that beat-up pager is your personal hotline?"

"She wholesaled hundreds of those pagers throughout the universe! And gave them to every civilization she deemed in need of 'protection'!"

"The Kree, the Skrulls, the Xandarians... she would leave a trace on any primitive planet she passed by."

"You think you're a VIP? Actually, you're just one in a thousand in her contact list."

Ah Zu turned around and cruelly revealed the truth.

"I guarantee that if you press that broken pager and get on her waiting list within five years, it'll be a miracle from your African ancestors!"

"In her eyes, Earth is no different from countless other civilizations in the universe that are waiting to be saved."
