Chapter 98 You should look for Gandalf, not me!
"Grant Ward?" Fury frowned, quickly recalling all the information about this agent in his mind. "Jon, you mean..."
“That’s right.” Jon straightened his hat brim and said in a deep voice, “I suspect this is how Hydra recruits its new members.”
Upon hearing this, the others, who had witnessed Jon's insight, immediately exchanged glances, realizing that something was amiss.
After all, it's a long-standing tradition within S.H.I.E.L.D. for veteran agents to mentor rookies on missions.
In this process, veteran agents will pass on their experience, concepts, and ideas to new agents.
If the process spreads the idea of maintaining the world, that's fine; but if it spreads the ideas of Hydra, that's not good.
At the same time, Hydra is like a cockroach; if you find one in the open, it means there are countless others lurking in the shadows.
Colson was particularly terrified of this fact.
S.H.I.E.L.D. is now like a dark forest, where it's hard to distinguish between true enemies and true friends.
But when he saw Jon and Fury's identical calm expressions, he felt inexplicably at ease.
"Just as you trust me, I trust you, Fury." Jon looked directly at Fury. "Those guys are yours to deal with."
"Leave it to me? Mazefak!" Fury squinted his one eye. "I lose sleep for days after every call from you."
"Could you please not call me next time? I need to rest too."
"With great power comes great responsibility," Jon continued to paint a rosy picture for Fury. "You're the king of spies; you know best how to find moles."
In truth, everyone knew that Fury was the biggest beneficiary of this whole affair.
At a time when relations between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Security Council are strained, John Garrett, this neo-Nazi, is the perfect political bargaining chip.
History will record that it was this group of people who exposed the last batch of Nazis. Although the goal is still far away, the future is already in sight.
"By the way," Jon suddenly changed the subject, "is the iron ball I asked for ready?"
"What iron ball? Okay, I know what you mean." Fury said with a straight face, feigning ignorance, "Green, sturdy, portable, and discreet."
"Are you sure you're not talking about magical artifacts? Go find Gandalf, S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't produce these."
"Stingy bastard, forget it." Jon clicked his tongue and gestured with his chin toward Coulson: "You say something too."
"Sir," Coulson said, for his friend's sake, forcing himself to step forward, "he really needs such an iron ball... technically..."
"This is an unreasonable demand," Fury interrupted, then readily agreed, "Alright, I agree."
"Fury," the Blade, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke, "you summoned us not just to catch a mole, right?"
These words awakened everyone.
Indeed, there's no need to deploy Blade and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure to deal with a Hydra agent.
Now, with the addition of Captain America, the lineup's stats on paper are simply outrageous.
Fury was silent for a few seconds, then winked at Sam, who immediately brought over a stack of documents and distributed them to everyone.
"Thank you for your hard work, Agent Sam," Fury said.
"It's nothing." Sam gave a harmless smile. "It's what I should do, sir."
"One copy for each person." Fury reached out and handed the documents in his hand to the group.
Jon glanced at Fury suspiciously as he took the document, but the other man remained as calm and collected as ever.
But as time went on, under Jon's watchful gaze, Fury could no longer remain seated.
"What are you looking at?" Fury said impatiently. "I don't like your type. Look at your intelligence, Jon."
O
"Also, I haven't forgotten, do you remember about the iron ball? The trade was one piece for each person."
"You call that? You're something else, Fury." Jon shook his head helplessly; he didn't even want to say anything more to Fury.
He looked down at the documents and had to admit that Fury had indeed kept his promise and agreed.
For those demanding requirements, portability alone was a major headache, but Fury still agreed.
It's pretty good, considering this task seems quite simple; otherwise, each person wouldn't have received one item.
Even if it's just to refresh his mind, his recent obsession with dating games has made him too less alert, which is not good.
He desperately needed something to raise his awareness, after all, the universe was quite dangerous.
Thinking of this, Jon looked at the document in his hand.
But as he read on, Jon's casual gaze gradually became serious.
The document contained a bizarre local news report:
A mountaineer who had his leg amputated in an accident experienced a miraculous regrowth of his right leg within three days of surgery...
"Is this a mutant? Because he has awakened his healing factor?" Jon asked instinctively.
He guessed that the other party had a healing factor, after all, this is the most common ability among mutants.
"If it were that simple, I wouldn't have contacted you." Fury shook his head and explained, "We collected cell samples the moment we discovered this, but we found that he didn't have the X gene."
"No X gene..." Jon frowned. "Then how did his legs regenerate?"
"This is exactly the mystery we're here to solve." Fury patted him on the shoulder. "I have a feeling this will be a big discovery."
"By the way, just wondering, you... never mind, never mind."
Fury strode into another room, intending to ask Jon why he was so fixated on justice.
But when you see those scarlet eyes, the problem becomes self-evident.
Jon's pupils reflected the images of many others, and it was these people who shaped the Jon we know today.
Despite possessing an evil bloodline, does this prove that personal will can transcend bloodline destiny?
Jon, you bastard!
"So mysterious." Jon pursed his lips, unconcerned. "Are all your missions different from mine?"
“That’s right.” Blade nodded, then said dismissively, “I’ve got my hands on a myth. Looks like Fury wants me to be an archaeologist.”
"Me too." Coulson waved the file and walked over to Blade. "Looks like we're partners this time."
Are we in pairs? Then my teammate is...
"Could it be..." Jon immediately turned to Steve and asked, "Captain, what about you?"
"Fury, let me investigate an athlete." Steve frowned in confusion. "Aren't you going to let me rest?"
"This is an easy task for the captain," Jon said dismissively. "As long as I shove that guy's head in the ground, he won't stay silent."
"Uh..." Steve was speechless, not understanding Jon's humor. "Is it allowed to do this now?"
"Just don't let Fury know," Jon whispered to Steve. "Everything else is secondary."
"That's one of the benefits of fieldwork: freedom, you know what I mean."
"He probably already knows, Jon." Steve awkwardly pointed behind him. "Why don't you turn around and take a look?"
Jon's expression changed, and the burning gaze from the back of his neck confirmed the captain's words.
"Frey? You're back? I thought you went to rest."
"How could I possibly be asleep? I have a ton of things to do." Fury walked over with a shield painted with a five-pointed star. "Captain, here's your shield."
"And you, Jon, don't be impulsive." He slapped another gun into Jon's hand. "This is Fitz's new toy, what's it called? The Dream Gun."
"Mazefak, what terrible naming taste. You can tell from the name that this thing will give the person who gets shot a good night's sleep."
"Understood." Jon took the gun and suddenly asked, "By the way, what about Garrett? Have you thought of an explanation?"
"Do you need to tell me? Do you think I don't know?" Fury rolled his eyes. "After all that talk, I'm still the one who has to clean up your messes."
"Jon, if you really care about this old man, help me think of a reasonable way to die."
"A plausible way to die? He didn't even leave behind a complete body." Jon scratched his head, this really stumped him. "How about saying he was blown to bits?"
"Then how come you're all unharmed?" Fury waved his hand. "Never mind, I'll handle it. Hopefully, his men will accept this explanation."
"Let's go."
He waved them away, sending them off to do their mission.
Fury went into the archives alone to write his report, and finally wrote down the cause of death.
While investigating items belonging to 084, an explosion was triggered, leaving no trace of the body except for a uniform.
(I think the main character needs an item that can instantly restore health; it's not good to keep getting injured.)
