Chapter 94 Captain America and Tony's Unsettling First Encounter
Chapter 94 Captain America and Tony's Unsettling First Encounter
During the day, inside a bar in the Harlem district.
The place is filled with smoke and the smell of alcohol and cigars, but it's not as noisy as it seems, because there's a general in this bar.
General Ross slumped in the shadows of the corner, his uniform collar wide, his dazed eyes staring at a row of empty wine glasses in front of him.
If someone were to look closely, they would find that there is still some unfinished whiskey left at the bottom of the glass.
The sound of billiard balls hitting the glass echoed through the bar, and people deliberately lowered their voices, seemingly maintaining a subtle balance in tacit agreement.
Until the door was suddenly pushed open by a guy wearing a brown jacket over a T-shirt.
Steve appeared at the door, his tall figure clashing with the bar's decadent atmosphere.
He scanned the area sharply, his gaze quickly settling on Ross in the corner.
After all, his wrinkled military uniform and颓废 (颓废 is a difficult word to translate directly, but it conveys a sense of decadence, listlessness, and apathy) aura were simply too conspicuous.
Is this the objective? Steve prepared himself mentally, walked to the table, and said, "General."
"Hmm?" Ross swirled his wine glass in the hand holding the cigar, narrowing his eyes. "Who are you?"
"Just an ordinary soldier."
Steve was carefully choosing his words, preparing to deliver some profound remarks, when the bar door was pushed open again.
This time it wasn't just half-opened, it was completely opened by someone.
A ray of sunlight suddenly pierced into the dimly lit bar.
Tony Stark strode in with a flippant air, his suit and tie unable to conceal his cynical demeanor.
"Wow, what do I smell?" He sniffed exaggeratedly, with a knowing look on his face, "The smell of craft beer and failure."
"Wait a minute." Tony raised an eyebrow when he noticed Steve. "And there's a musty museum smell to it, man. Didn't anyone tell you your outfit is outdated?"
Who is this annoying guy? Never mind, I still have a mission. Calm down.
Steve frowned slightly, suppressing his anger. "General, let's continue our meeting."
"Seriously? A meeting? What era are we living in?"
Tony interrupted, for some reason feeling a strange hostility towards the guy in front of him.
"The way you talk is like a caveman who just crawled out of a history textbook."
Tony raised an eyebrow, took off his sunglasses, walked to the other side of Ross, and sat down.
"You know what? I hate saying 'I told you so' the most—" He waved for a beer, "but I did warn you, General."
"There's a reason the Super Soldier program was halted; the armor is far more reliable than the serum."
On the other side, Steve stood next to Ross but couldn't get a word in edgewise. Ever since the bearded man arrived, the conversation had become a one-man show for him.
However, Steve had a strange feeling that the little mustache looked vaguely familiar.
Sure enough, the words General Ross spoke the next second answered all his doubts.
"Stark," Ross said impatiently, "you always dress so flashy."
"This is my personal style." Tony shrugged, still with that flippant air. "A style that Time magazine approves of."
"Stark?" Steve suddenly realized, asking with some disbelief, "Who is Howard Stark to you?"
"Howard Stark... uh..." Tony pursed his lips and said reluctantly, "Although I hate to admit it... he's my father."
"Your father?" Steve's expression froze instantly, and something on his face vanished.
In his mind, Howard Stark was a great warrior, just a bit too flashy.
But this guy in front of me is extremely arrogant and disrespectful. He always makes sarcastic remarks and is a complete nuisance.
But Steve didn't know that his words had completely hit Tony's sore spot.
Tony hates it when people mention his father and then give him a look that says, "You're not as good as your father."
So, a slightly annoyed Iron Man immediately turned his attention to Captain America, completely ignoring Ross who was standing to the side.
"Ha! I knew it looked familiar."
Tony turned to Steve, a sneer in his eyes, and said mockingly, "So you're that old American popsicle? Looks like the common sense in your head melted away when you thawed it."
""
"What did you say?" Steve clenched his fists, barely containing his anger. "Are you mocking me?"
"Hey! Calm down!" Ross quickly tried to smooth things over, seeing the situation was getting out of hand. "Can we all calm down?"
Unfortunately, it was too late. Seeing that someone wanted to mediate, the two turned their anger towards Ross, and the three of them started arguing.
This scene caused Coulson and Jon, who were lurking in the corner, to exchange a shocked glance.
Things unfolded exactly as Jon Snow had planned.
"Excellent." Jon's lips curled into a slight smile; he'd rarely seen such a good show. "Are you sure you don't want to try and break up the fight? That's your idol."
"Forget it, I don't want to be sent to the ICU by an angry Captain America."
Coulson stared at him, his eyes shining, and remarked, "Seriously, he looks like a raging lion right now—so cool."
"Hey, buddy." Jon rolled his eyes and snapped his fingers at the bartender. "Give this guy a beer to clear his head. I think he's a little out of it."
At the same time, Tony's sharp tongue went into overdrive, leaving Ross and Steve speechless with just a few words.
Tony thoroughly ridiculed Ross's proud plan from head to toe.
"Fuck you, Tony Stark!" Ross roared, his face flushed, slamming his fist on the table and leaping to his feet. "Get out of my bar!"
"Your bar?" Tony pulled out his phone, swiped a few times, looked up with a triumphant smile, and said, "Correction: it's mine now."
"I bought it, just now."
Tony, having won, put on his sunglasses and turned to leave. After taking two steps, he stopped at the door.
"By the way, Ross, I heard this is your favorite place? Here's a suggestion."
"You'd better drink a couple more glasses while you still can, because I'm going to blow this place up next Tuesday. Hehe, see you next time."
"This guy!"
Steve's chest heaved violently; even with his super soldier physique, he still turned pale from holding his breath.
If it weren't for Howard's sake, he would have gone to let Tony experience what the Patriotic Iron Fist was like that morning.
"Fury..." he gritted his teeth, forcing out the words, "You son of a bitch."
It's important to know that during World War II, there was a rule that every soldier was forbidden from swearing on the radio.
So as Captain America, he had long since developed the habit of not swearing, but today, he broke his rule.
Because of those two bastards, Tony and Fury.
"Absolutely brilliant." Jon had truly seen something new today. "I never expected Tony's verbal sparring to be so deadly. Look at the Captain's face..."
"I'm sure that anyone who dares to talk to Captain America now will get a loving punch from him."
"Yeah, but it seems your scheme worked." Coulson looked at Jon with a wry smile. "Now it's my turn to play the fool."
"Good luck." Jon patted him hard on the shoulder. "Remember to protect your vitals; Ross is furious too."
"Don't worry." Coulson straightened his tie and walked up to Ross. "General, I'm Agent Phil Coulson from S.H.I.E.L.D., we..."
"Get out! Fury's lackeys!" Ross spat directly at Coulson's face. "Get out of here, all of you!"
"As you wish."
Coulson calmly wiped his face and gave Jon a wink.
The two turned and walked outside. Steve suddenly frowned at Jon and followed without saying a word.
