Chapter 43 Fury Breaks Through the Great Defense!
"So, we're now looking for that guy who participated in the trial?"
Patton leaned against the gate of the makeshift base and said listlessly:
"The owner of the hammer you mentioned? That Asgardian? Unbelievable."
As a top agent, he had pieced together the general truth from Jon's fragmented words.
First of all, this hammer is a key item in a trial arranged by the hammer's owner's father.
They are Asgardians, gods in Norse mythology.
The hammer god is currently on Earth in mortal form, participating in a trial.
"Exactly," Jon shrugged, equally bored. "Unless you have a better idea?"
"However, Patton, first you need to know what he looks like before we can go find him."
"Uh..." Barton was speechless for a moment, then calmed down and said, "Okay, let's keep waiting then."
To be honest, it's not easy to find a hammer god who has been stripped of his divine power in their border city.
Surveillance coverage is low here, and the area is covered in yellow sand.
Not only did they fail to find the person, but they also ate their fill of sand – a thankless task.
Also, he's unsure if Thor is heading towards the hammer.
What if they just left and someone else showed up right after?
To pass the time, Jon opened a cigarette and, under Barton's questioning gaze, fed the tobacco to the lizard he had caught at random.
"Damn it!" Barton leaned closer, watching the lizard suddenly start dancing. "This thing dances after eating tobacco? How did you figure that out?"
"Um......"
Jon saw Joseph's wickedly grinning face.
"An old man with energy that doesn't seem like a senior citizen... sigh."
Mentioning Joseph and Enya's abilities, he suddenly lost his playful mood.
So that's how it is...
Barton pursed his lips knowingly, patted him on the shoulder, and took out his own cigarette from his pocket.
"Want one?"
"Thanks." Jon took a cigarette and put it in his mouth.
The platinum star flashed, and with a speed imperceptible to the naked eye, the cigarette butt was instantly lit by the friction of the fingertips.
Patton stared wide-eyed at Star Platinum, hesitated for a moment, then swallowed his question.
He felt that as a friend, he shouldn't have asked this inappropriate question when Jon was upset.
Just as the two were puffing on cigarettes and watching the lizard's dance,
The Sitwell agent suddenly rushed over.
"Barton! Advisor Yovik! Have you seen Coulson?"
He asked breathlessly.
Jon and Barton exchanged a glance, preparing to cover for Coulson.
Because the code of conduct for secret agents explicitly prohibits drinking alcohol during working hours.
So, as a friend, Jon Snow decisively stepped forward:
"What is it, Sitwell?"
"An emergency." Sitwell showed his tablet. "We need him to handle this."
The two men leaned closer and saw that they were requesting research data from Jane Foster's team, which they used to analyze the hammer.
Experimental data in astronomy?
Jon secretly grimaced.
He knew that this broken hammer wouldn't stay on Earth for long, so studying it would be a waste of time.
But this suited him perfectly; now he wanted to be as far away from that damn hammer as possible.
To avoid getting another electric shock warning from that one-eyed old man who loves to sleep and has a bad temper.
"Understood." Jon readily agreed. "I'll go get Coulson. Thank you."
"Great." Sitwell, unsuspecting, turned and left.
"So..." Barton raised an eyebrow at Jon, "are we going to become bandits, or stay here and continue watching lizards dance?"
"I choose..." Jon kicked the dancing lizard away: "Go wake Coulson and make him a bandit."
"Understood." Barton's expression was subtle. "Hopefully he's sober now."
It was only then that Jon remembered that Coulson was still sleeping in the car.
They were having such a pleasant conversation that they didn't even bother to call him; in short, they forgot.
"It's easier if he doesn't wake up, but I also hope he does."
Jon strode toward the Chevrolet, with Patton jogging to keep up.
The moment the car door opened, a deafening snoring sound came from the back seat.
Barton blinked, wisely stepped back, and extended his hand in invitation:
"Don't you have a way of waking him up? Now, begin your performance, Jon."
"Star Platinum," Jon whispered, pulling his hat brim down.
The Platinum Star appeared instantly, grabbed Coulson's ankle, and lifted him up.
"Waaaaaaah!!!"
Coulson immediately woke up to find himself hanging upside down in front of the two men.
"What's going on?"
He blinked his sleepy eyes, his expression gradually shifting from confusion to disbelief.
"Jon...did Star Platinum capture me? Or is that damned potion still working?"
"Wake up, Coulson." Jon gestured for Platinum Star to put the man down.
"Headquarters wants you to borrow some research materials to study that hammer."
Patton then pulled out his phone.
"Also, we need to call Fury. The researchers have detected electromagnetic anomalies in the hammer."
"It's no big deal." Jon opened the car door. "Let's talk in the car."
"So you only remember me when you need me to be the bad guy?"
Despite his constant complaints, Coulson got into the car.
Once everyone was seated, Jon started the car and casually dialed the number saved as "Chief Chocolate".
A few seconds later.
Fury's projection immediately appeared inside the car.
He was wearing a floral shirt and beach shorts, with sunglasses on his face.
They're obviously on vacation.
"What is it?" Fury said irritably. "Can't you see I'm on vacation?"
"You actually took a vacation?" Jon raised an eyebrow at his attire. "Alright, let's get down to business, Chief Chocolate."
"No problem, as long as it's not asking me to save the world."
Fury said leisurely, lying on the recliner.
Jon paused for a moment, organized his thoughts, and said:
"So, basically, there's an alien prince whose dad sent him to Earth for a trial... right, Barton?"
He turned to look at Patton, who was trying to look cool behind him.
"What the hell?" Fury sat up, immediately taking off his sunglasses. "Barton, is what he said true?"
"Absolutely true, sir." Barton nodded. "JoJo is right."
"JOJO?" Fury looked at the two of them with a strange expression. "You two are already that familiar?"
"Obviously, sir." Patton straightened his back.
"Shit."
Fury rolled his eyes, clutching his forehead in a headache, and mentally prepared himself.
God knows.
One of his three most capable agents was turned by Jon in less than a day?
"This looks so familiar," Fury thought.
Does Jon Snow have some kind of magic? This is too outrageous.
Just yesterday, Patton confidently declared that he would keep a close eye on this guy!
They said they wanted to see what Jon Snow really was like.
But now?
They haven't even seen each other for a day, and wow, they're already calling each other by name and putting their arms around each other's shoulders.
Having realized this, Fury had given up struggling.
"Fine, explain it to me in more detail."
"Simply put..."
Upon hearing this, Jon Snow suddenly became serious and, under Fury's tense gaze, slowly uttered a sentence:
"Fury, do you want to save the world?"
"puff--!"
