Chapter 20 Deceiving Fury
"Hello there."
Jon quickly withdrew his hand.
"Ms. Potts asked me to 'invite' you back," Natasha's red lips curled slightly, "but judging from your reaction, you don't seem to intend to cooperate?"
"Of course not." Jon said with a forced smile. "Besides, thank you for your honesty... beautiful lady."
"Just call me Natalie."
"A good name. I heard my aunt has been quite dependent on you lately? You must be very tired, Miss Natalie."
"It's my duty, Mr. Yovik."
Jon nodded, reflecting inwardly.
Pepper is so lucky.
why?
Because not every CEO can have a S.H.I.E.L.D. Level 10 agent as their personal secretary.
To be honest...
If Natalie hadn't done such an impeccable job as an assistant, he would have exposed her long ago.
"That's settled then. If there's nothing else... I'll be going now."
Jon stepped aside. "Goodbye, Natalie."
"goodbye."
Natasha stared at Jon's departing figure, a hint of suspicion flashing in her eyes.
Her sixth sense seemed to be telling her that something was wrong with Jon, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.
"Sigh, let Fury worry about it."
Thinking of this, Natasha pressed her earpiece, "Frey, Jon is going back to the hotel, get ready."
"I saw it," Fury's voice came through the earpiece.
in the hotel.
Jon, as if possessed, pulled out his phone and started checking it.
It's unusual that Skye didn't text or call him.
After a moment, seeing that the information bar was indeed empty, he suddenly realized something and turned around sharply.
Natasha, who had been standing in the same spot just moments before, had vanished without a trace.
"Heh...I see." Jon sneered and pressed the elevator button.
The metal door slowly opened, and he stepped inside.
During the brief moment the elevator ascended, Jon's expression shifted repeatedly before finally settling into calm.
Ding--
The door opened.
The corridor was silent. Using the carpet as a cover, he quietly walked to the door and listened carefully.
"Breathing sounds... two." A mocking smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. "Goodness, they really came to talk to me."
Without hesitation, he pushed the door open.
In the room, Skye, clutching her beloved computer, lay sprawled on the bed, fast asleep.
On the sofa on the balcony, a shiny black braised egg was gradually emerging from the edge of the backrest.
They heard Jon's footsteps.
Fury calmly stood up, turned around, and locked his one eye directly onto Jon.
"It wasn't easy finding you, Jon Yowick. I'm S.H.I.E.L.D...."
"I know," Jon interrupted him abruptly, leaning lazily against the doorframe. "What does Chief Chocolate want with me?"
"Damn it!" Fury's face instantly turned as black as the bottom of a pot. "Couldn't you at least let me finish my opening remarks?"
"Are all young people these days so rude? Can't they at least show some respect for the elderly?"
"Sorry," Jon shrugged insincerely, "first of all, you illegally entered my room."
"Secondly, you also took down my men." He pointed to Skye, who was lying unconscious on the bed.
"With this attitude, you expect me to respect you? Don't be ridiculous, Chief Chocolate?"
"I'm Nick Fury!" Fury's one eye practically spitting fire. "The Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.! Not some fucking Chocolate Director, fuck the hell!"
"It's good enough that they didn't call you 'Turtle Chief'," Jon muttered to himself.
Fury pointed angrily at Skye, who was sleeping soundly on the bed:
"And this woman, lately she's been hacking into our database non-stop, like she's shopping at a market..."
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"Jon?" Pepper's voice came through the door. "Are you in there?"
Fury's one eye rolled to the sky, and then he made a "you handle this" gesture to Jon.
Jon shrugged, deliberately stomping his feet as he stood up, and said:
"Pepper, what's wrong?"
"I'd like to talk to you about your schooling."
"What?" Jon looked at Fury and asked in a low voice:
How should I answer this?
"How would I know?" Fury replied quietly. "I've never been expelled from school."
"Really?" Jon asked skeptically. "I don't believe it."
Fury choked, pointing at Jon as he was about to retort, when Pepper at the door said:
"Jon? Are you listening?"
"I'm listening. Uh, sorry Pepper, I'm a little unavailable right now. How about we talk again tomorrow morning?"
"Okay..." Pepper left.
"Oh! Jesus!" Fury ripped off his eye mask and rubbed his temples.
"Listen, kid, let's get straight to the point. You're a rare talent, so..."
"So S.H.I.E.L.D. wants to recruit me?" Jon sneered. "Let me be frank, Fury... you can't afford my hourly rate."
Fury's Adam's apple bobbed twice, forcing back the mouthful of "Mama Fak" that had risen to his lips.
He admitted that the kid in front of him was just like that guy Stark.
She is both incredibly charismatic and extremely annoying.
"Actually," Fury said through gritted teeth, "we're not that short-staffed, but..."
"A special talent like you is quite suitable for handling certain... situations."
"I've always been special." Jon crossed his arms, then suddenly lowered his voice: "How about this, we make a deal?"
"However, I don't want the details of the transaction to be overheard by others."
Fury had just opened his mouth when he suddenly had a bad feeling.
It felt like he was about to be harvested like a leek.
Just then.
A giant hand glowing with purple light appeared out of thin air and deftly plucked his communicator.
Click.
"WTF?!" Fury jumped up, looking terrified.
He stared intently at the fading purple figure behind Jon, and asked incredulously:
"What the hell was that thing?"
Jon's pupils contracted slightly; could Fury see the Stand?
It seems that this one-eyed man's mental strength is even stronger than he anticipated.
"I'll explain it to you next time." He casually tossed the communicator wreckage into the trash can. "Now, want to hear my proposal?"
Fury's face was grim. After thinking for a moment, he pulled out the walkie-talkie and said:
"Stay alert, I'm safe."
He finished speaking and slumped back onto the sofa, the leather creaking under its strain: "Speak."
"I heard... S.H.I.E.L.D. has consultant positions available every year?"
"Who told you that?" Fury's one eye suddenly narrowed. "Don't say it was Stark."
"What a coincidence, it's Tony." Jon mimicked the playboy's tone. "He said there's a one-eyed field mouse in a leather jacket who wants to start some kind of Superboys Club..."
"Enough!" Fury interrupted abruptly, raising his hand. "Get to the point."
As soon as he finished speaking, the room fell into an eerie silence.
Jon leaned forward, the chandelier casting a heavy shadow on his face.
When he looked into those red eyes, even the seasoned king of secret agents unconsciously tensed his muscles.
"Listen, this next sentence..." Jon's tone was extremely serious, "It's very, very important, you must listen carefully."
Upon hearing this, Fury's breath caught in his throat for half a second.
"Fury..." Jon asked, emphasizing each word, "Do you... want to save the world?"
