Lord of Mysteries: Taiyi
Chapter 55 Mr. A's Party
At 7:30 a.m., in Backlund, south of the bridge, a restaurant on River Bend near the Tasok River.
Fors took the initiative to invite Hugh and Kurt to dinner. Kurt figured he didn't have much to do in the morning, since he had already canceled his morning study session and afternoon home visit. His only plans were to attend Mr. A's party and go to class in the afternoon.
Coutt ordered a plate of Fennebot pasta and a slice of toast with butter, which cost Fors 1 soule and 2 pence, or 14 pence. Only after Fors insisted did Coutt order an extra slice of toast; otherwise, Coutt would have felt embarrassed to order so much.
The three of them finished breakfast with dark circles under their eyes. Afterwards, Kurt arranged to meet them at his house at 2:30 p.m., because Mr. A's party was somewhere in the West End.
……
When he returned to the watch shop, Finks, who was already at his post, was not surprised to see Kurt returning from outside, as Kurt had a habit of jogging in the morning.
He simply adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and asked with concern:
“Running night school is hard work, you should take a break, Mr. Kurt.”
Kurt put down his cane and replied with a smile:
"I canceled all my plans today except for night school. I'll go out and relax this afternoon. Oh, by the way, I recently contacted a famous doctor who might be able to help your mother fight her illness."
Phinks, who was still a little sleepy, asked with some delight after hearing what Kurt said:
"Really? Mr. Kurt?"
Kut nodded, offering no further explanation, but instead said:
"Of course, this is just a possibility. I need your mother's medical records, which you can give me tomorrow."
While I can also provide treatment, it requires seeing the patient, which is truly inexplicable, given that Kurt knew nothing about medicine before. Melanie can solve this problem now, and of course, if Melanie isn't available, he could later seek help from Mr. "Moon," Emlyn White—that was his initial plan.
As for the medical records, Kurt thought it best not to trouble his teacher too much. If this experienced vampire baron could prescribe the medicine remotely, that would be even better...
After receiving Finks' sincere thanks, Kurt went upstairs and told Finks not to let anyone disturb him so he could catch up on his sleep.
Kurt slept straight until 1 a.m., then got up on time to wash up. After thinking for a moment, he asked the chef, Sink, who hadn't done any work that morning, to make some snacks. This chef was from Remburg and knew how to make a special kind of pastry that was only available in his hometown. It looked a lot like the snowflake cake from his previous life, but it was more delicate. It was called "Frea Cake." Friya was a legendary saint from their hometown, and she was the one who invented these cute and delicious pastries.
……
Today, Fors wore a boat-shaped beige soft hat with fine gauze hanging down. She also changed her clothes to a thicker shirt and beige trousers that were more suitable for movement. Combined with her all-nighter last night, she looked even more languid and decadent.
Hugh had grown taller, but otherwise remained the same as always: knight's practice uniform and brown boots, messy short blond hair, and a faint air of authority on his youthful face.
Kurt wore a double-breasted long suit with a half-length silk hat, short, stiff black hair, and dark red eyes. His sharp facial features and tall stature gave him a capable and cold look. Of course, Kurt always had a gentle smile on his lips, which softened his coldness.
He served them "Fria cakes," and like most of the ladies, they enjoyed them.
After Fors finished eating the last bit of food on the plate, he commented:
"These are very delicious pastries, but a bit too sweet. Did your chef make them?"
Having just been told he didn't need to cook dinner, Sinker came downstairs and overheard Fors's comments. He hurried to the dining table and said apologetically:
"I'm sorry, ma'am. Miss Lori and Mr. Kurt both have a sweet tooth, and I didn't take their preferences into account. This is my negligence."
Fors nodded slightly, smiled, and waved his hand, saying:
"It's alright, it's alright, it's already better than those high-end restaurants."
……
When it was almost time, Kurt asked Finks to watch the shop and then went out with Hugh and Fors.
Finks watched the three figures disappear into the distance, lost in thought. Kurt hadn't been to the workshop in a long time...
About 20 minutes later, they arrived at their destination. Kurt put on the mask he had prepared for the Extraordinary Market, which covered half of his face, leaving only a sharp chin and thin lips visible, while his eyes were hidden in the shadow of the hood.
Once they were ready, Hugh and Fors, who were also disguised, knocked on the wooden door in front of them with three long knocks and two short knocks in between.
With a creak, the wooden door slowly opened, and Kurt quickly took in the entire party scene. There were quite a few people sitting inside, most of whom were disguised, while only a few openly exposed their faces.
Kurt also noticed the man in black robes sitting on a single sofa.
The man, also wearing a hood, concealed his face in the shadows. He silently observed the visitors, exuding a condescending and oppressive aura. He only glanced quickly at Kurt and his group, lingering on Kurt's face for a second longer before looking away.
Curt, who wanted to see just how good-looking Mr. A was, suppressed his disappointment and followed Hugh and Fors into the venue, where they found a place to sit down.
At this moment, Hugh, who was standing to the side, whispered the introduction:
"That's Mr. A, an extremely powerful extraordinary individual, and the convener of this secret gathering."
Kut nodded without saying much, and looked at the two blackboards in the middle.
Hugh and Fors saw that Kurt seemed very familiar with them, and considering his official status as an Extraordinary, they didn't offer any further explanation.
"Dust left by a vengeful spirit, 165 pounds."
"We need a pair of Rain Bird's eyes."
"The Flower of the Baby's Cry, 200 pounds."
"Sequence Nine 'Lawyer' Potion Recipe, 220 pounds."
"Fishman Slime, 30ml, £29"
"A pair of wings of the Rainbow Illusionary Cicada, £600."
"Sequence 8 'Sheriff' recipe, 450 pounds."
Kurt saw what he wanted, and his eyes lit up slightly. Turning his head, he saw Fors take out a cigarette, and he remembered that Fors had a smoking habit in the original story. However, Fors hadn't smoked in the past two days, neither during class nor last night when fighting against the Full Moon's whispers... which made Kurt almost forget about it.
Seeing Kurt's gaze, Fors gave a somewhat dejected smile and offered an explanation:
"Smoking can relieve fatigue during creative work."
Kut nodded and said:
"I've got my eye on something, what should I do?"
At this point, Hugh shifted his gaze from the 'Sheriff' potion recipe and replied:
"Just talk to that waiter."
……
The seller of the "Seven-Colored Illusionary Cicada Wings" is a silent man hidden under a hood.
After paying, Kurt received a palm-sized tin box. He opened it right in front of everyone and found two thin, almost transparent cicada wings, each over 10 centimeters long, lying quietly inside. The dim light reflected off the wings, making them shimmer and glow. After confirming their identities, Kurt counted out 60 ten-pound notes and completed the transaction.
Having lost 600 pounds, Kurt lost interest in other items. As for Hugh's desire for the sheriff's recipe, Kurt decided not to help her after thinking it over. In any case, even if she got the recipe, she wouldn't be able to afford the potion ingredients, unless Hugh personally asked him for a loan.
He could just give you the recipe, but that would seem a bit odd... Sometimes you can't be too nice to others.
The main problem is that Kurt doesn't have enough money to lend Hugh right now. He only has 453 pounds 7 sulphurs left, which includes the 200 pounds owed to Mr. Hanged Man, the 170 pounds that Leah owes me, and about 2000 pounds worth of merit in the church...
While observing Mr. A's extraordinary party, Kurt pondered how to make money next.
