Lord of Mysteries: Taiyi
Chapter 54 "Investigating Strange Tales"
After a while, in an attempt to liven things up, Hugh began to recount her days as a noblewoman.
"Back then, I didn't have to get out of bed every day. Like Emperor Roselle said, I was fed and clothed without lifting a finger..."
Hugh recounted some past events, as well as her mother and brother, albeit intermittently. Of course, she didn't specify which family she belonged to.
Miss Hugh seems to have started to trust me... Kurt listened quietly to Hugh's story, without asking any questions or bothering to expose her.
After Hugh finished speaking, it was Fors' turn. As a bestselling author, Fors clearly recounted her past: her father's abandonment, her mother's death, her work experience at the clinic, and, as if reporting to Kurt, how she became an extraordinary person.
In the end, Kurt realized that both women were very sincere. Apart from some past experiences that might endanger their friends, they hadn't lied at all compared to the original story... Kurt himself had become the most dishonest one.
His cheeks were slightly flushed, but he wisely refrained from revealing his identity as a remnant of the past and a reader of higher dimensions. Saying these things would not benefit them or Kurt himself; on the contrary, it would bring some unexpected dangers...
At least until Klein becomes part of the Old Ones and releases those "cocoons" can he reveal his previous identity.
In short, Kurt Budd, Fors Wall, and Hugh Deercha may have truly become friends that night...
After chatting, they realized it wasn't 12 o'clock yet... Kurt decided to let the two ladies take a nap first, since he wouldn't have anything to do until 3 pm the next day, and he could basically recover his energy after sleeping for 4 hours.
However, Hugh and Fors both refused, saying they wanted to stay up with Kurt until tomorrow. They probably felt that sleeping in front of a gentleman was inappropriate no matter what…
Realizing he had been somewhat rude, Kurt stopped talking, took a sip of blood, and began to regret not bringing his book with him that day.
……
Kurt felt incredibly bored watching Hugh pacing back and forth and Fors, who was absentmindedly pondering the story.
He glanced at the papers and pens scattered on the table beside him, which Fors had used to resist the Full Moon's ramblings. Suddenly, an idea struck him, and he went to the desk under the somewhat puzzled gazes of the two ladies.
Kurt considered the language and said:
"I once found an interesting prototype of a game in some of the manuscripts left by Emperor Roselle. Why don't we give it a try now?"
As he spoke, he picked up a piece of draft paper, roughly folded it into a angular sphere, used a "finishing touch" spell to give it the characteristics of "uniform texture, 100-sided, and sturdy", crumpled the paper, and a simple "100-sided die" was formed.
If Klein knew I used golden talismans to DIY dice… Kurt smirked and tossed the dice to Fors, saying to her:
"Number 1 to 100 on these surfaces."
Then, addressing Fors, who had curiously taken the dice, and Hugh, who was somewhat surprised by Kurt's extraordinary abilities, he explained:
"Let's call it 'Investigative Chronicles.' I'll make two blank character cards for you later, and then you can fill in the information on them, such as your names..."
Kurt couldn't find a suitable word to replace "tabletop role-playing game," and since he was terrible at coming up with names, he just made one up. Then he picked up another sheet of sketch paper and started drawing the basic shape of the character cards. With the enhancement of the Clockmaker's potion, he casually drew a straight line on the paper, and then came the border...
While making the character cards, Kurt continued explaining:
"After you fill in the numbers, I'll be the host. We'll create an adventure story on paper. You'll suggest actions, and I'll decide whether to roll the dice and plan what will happen next..."
Upon hearing about this interesting and novel game, Fors, a bestselling author, immediately became interested and said excitedly:
"This might give me some special creative inspiration, praising Emperor Russell. I could even have my own characters go on adventures for me, which is something I've always wanted to do."
Kurt's lips twitched, and instead of praising the emperor, he turned to look at Hugh.
Hugh also showed an interested expression and quickly got into the mood, saying:
"I want to create a bounty hunter; that would be really fun."
Kurt smiled and suggested:
"Sometimes it's more fun to create a character that's completely different from yourself."
Xiu tiptoed and pondered:
"A tall bounty hunter girl... or a fallen noblewoman."
Fors also envisioned:
"Then I'll play a chivalrous hero of the night who encounters a down-on-her-luck noblewoman wandering the streets..."
Hugh asked doubtfully, "Is it possible to 'play' a role that is different from my own gender?"
Curt smiled and nodded:
"Of course, as long as it's within reasonable limits, you can even play the role of a curly-haired baboon. Of course, the card you open today can only be for ordinary people. If you don't die in the story, you can use it next time... and maybe you'll become an extraordinary one."
In the end, Hugh picked up Millie Orr, a beautiful 18-year-old noblewoman of medium build, who was framed by a villain and ended up on the streets.
Fors then drove a tall and handsome bard named Okmar, who carried a dagger called "Wolf Fang" left behind by his companion.
Kurt then fabricated a story about exploring a haunted castle. The culprit was a mischievous spirit creature, so the module was named "Mischief." It had the ability to create invisible walls and alter the terrain. In the end, with Kurt's protection, the noblewoman and the bard managed to seal the spirit creature without any real danger and survived.
Since it was their first time experiencing this novel game, Hugh and Fors had a lot of fun. When they threw a big miss, they would wail softly, and when they made a big success or a very difficult success, they would cheer quietly. In short, the night slipped away quietly.
"Okma and Millie worked together to open the balcony window, and sunlight streamed into the castle. The last vestiges of the mischievous spirit dissipated, and the castle returned to its original state. A bard and a down-on-her-luck noblewoman completed their first mission...Okma and Millie became friends."
As Kurt's voice faded, Backlund was bathed in rare sunlight, which streamed into the room. Kurt put down his pen and dice.
Because the desk wasn't spacious enough, they eventually moved the battlefield to the bed, which was covered with the papers that Kurt used to draw the terrain or make notes.
Fors stretched, yawned, and patted Hugh's back, saying:
"You recklessly opened that cabinet just now, almost killing us."
Hugh, somewhat sleepy, retorted:
"A certain bard threw two major failures and remained on the ground for three rounds..."
Fors smiled and praised Kurt:
"Mr. Kurt, you'd be perfect for writing novels. You managed to come up with this complete story on the spot... That was really fun! Can we do it again?"
Kurt began tidying up the scene, saying:
"You all have a general understanding of the rules and can play at home on your own. Of course, we'll get together again when we have the chance...like next full moon."
At that moment, an interesting idea suddenly popped into Kurt's mind: would it be fun to play a tabletop role-playing game in the Tarot Club? And if this were promoted, it might become a trendy game, and Kurt would make a fortune. Of course, it probably wouldn't reach the lower classes, as it would be a waste of time.
Perhaps we can even "invent" some board games that Russell hasn't had a chance to promote yet...
"Then I'll just hope the full moon disappears..."
Fors responded somewhat dejectedly, noting that the Full Moon Whisper was slowly intensifying, and she couldn't be sure that Kurt would continue to protect her; she still needed to find a complete solution.
