Lord of Mysteries: Taiyi
Chapter 30 The Truth Association
The interior of the Harvest Church.
After the brief interlude, the two people and the bird finally began the lesson. Melanie first explained the extraordinary abilities of Sequence Eight, "Beastmaster," within the "Pharmacist" pathway...
Melanie brought a lot of materials and learning tools. She was very skilled at this because she was the captain and mentor of new members in the city of Torsos in Fenneport.
Kurt, thanks to the enhanced learning ability brought by the Teacher's Potion, learned very quickly. Melanie cleverly incorporated some history, various organizations, and occult knowledge into her language teaching, such as the fact that Ancient Hermes could manipulate natural forces, and other knowledge mentioned or not mentioned in the original book.
Kurt listened very attentively, firstly because he genuinely needed this knowledge, and secondly because he was trying to play the role of a "teacher," since there's a saying: "Among three people walking together, there must be one who can teach me..."
Two hours passed quickly. Melanie closed her textbook, which was filled with notes, and said with some pleasure:
"It seems your 'potion' has given you a powerful learning ability. I read in the information that you can impart knowledge to others?"
Kurt closed his notebook, closed his pen, and, feeling the slight feedback from the digestion of the potion within his body, nodded and said:
"Yes, I also opened a night school in the East District, trying to be a real teacher, and those kids proved that this ability really works."
Melanie nodded thoughtfully and asked:
"You got the recipe from one of those extraordinary gatherings, didn't you? We've never been able to get our hands on the potion recipes that the 'Truth Society' holds. We never expected it to circulate at an extraordinary gathering."
Melanie clearly didn't believe the Mother Goddess would choose someone who joined a secret gathering and believed in an unknown existence to be chosen as a chosen one. Therefore, combining this with the current situation, she concluded that Kurt was obtained from the Extraordinary Gathering. Furthermore, the church leadership had instructed her not to explore any of Kurt's secrets, or she would bear the consequences…
Sure enough, the "Clockmaker" and the seemingly "Storyteller" type of Extraordinary had appeared, but they didn't seem to be on the Profane Tablets. Alger had only mentioned 22 Profane Cards at the gathering; they only appeared recently? Impossible, Extraordinary traits are immortal… Kurt frowned, not hiding his doubts, and asked:
"The Truth Association?"
Melanie nodded and explained, "A young, secretive organization, also known as 'Time Tracks,' is active in Rune and Fenneport. It is said to have first appeared 150 years ago, and it has strangely emerged suddenly."
"The danger level is not high; it's just a secretive organization primarily focused on research. Their beliefs and high-level combat capabilities are unknown. You should spend some time learning the basics of various secret organizations. I brought the relevant materials."
"Suddenly appeared..." Kurt chewed on the word, nodded, and said:
"Okay, teacher, I will study those materials carefully."
Mr. Hanged Man didn't mention this organization at the previous gathering, which is normal. He also didn't mention secret organizations like the School of Life. I really should brush up on my knowledge in this area. The mysterious world now seems quite different from what I remember.
At this moment, Melanie adjusted her glasses, her blood-red eyes shining slightly as she said:
"I want to experience what it feels like to be taught knowledge."
Kurt paused for a moment, then nodded, pulling himself out of his thoughts.
"Then please relax your mind, teacher, and simulate the feeling of eagerly seeking knowledge from me, just like a student."
When he sensed that Melanie had complied, Kurt activated his extraordinary ability and "taught" her a small portion of the "History of Art in Loen," which he had recently been reading.
Melanie felt as if a wealth of knowledge, not her own, had suddenly appeared in her mind, existing only as memories. She couldn't help but exclaim in admiration:
"What a magical feeling! It's similar to the feeling of being 'chased by knowledge' that occurs in the Seeker Path, but it's much gentler, or rather, much more controllable. I'll consider getting another extraordinary pet from the Watchmaker Path later, so it can do the work for me."
To avoid appearing suspicious, Kurt casually asked:
"Being chased by knowledge?"
Melanie habitually ruffled her blonde curls and replied:
"In the lesson just now, I mentioned the Morse Order. They mastered the path of the Seekers, and they worshipped the impersonal deity 'The Hidden Sage.' However, the 'Hidden Sage'... has come to life!"
Kurt, with the same ease as when he was above the gray fog, calmly expressed his surprise.
The vampire baron then mentioned the characteristics of this pathway and several sequence names.
Sequence 9 "Secret Seeker", Sequence 8 "Fighting Scholar", Sequence 7 "Wizard", Sequence 6 "Roll Professor", Sequence 5 "Astrologer", Sequence 4 "Mystic"!
Melanie, who has lived for 120 years, is indeed very knowledgeable. She even knows the Sequence 4 name of the "Hermit" pathway. But why does she seem to enjoy sharing knowledge and showing off her extensive learning, just like an Extraordinary of the "Reader" pathway?
"If I reveal the subsequent name, the potion recipe, and the corresponding ritual, will she lose control on the spot?" Kurt thought with amusement, but still sincerely praised her aloud:
"It seems I won't need to go to the library anymore; I can just come directly to you, teacher."
"Also, you'd better not show your thirst for knowledge or open your mind in front of other extraordinary beings, that would be very dangerous."
Melanie nodded and smiled:
"Of course I know, but you are the chosen one of the Mother Goddess..."
"By the way, your ring has a natural attraction for us vampires, but be careful when you see other vampires, they might think you killed a vampire viscount..."
Kurt frowned, realizing that this was indeed a problem. One of the reasons why vampires hated artificial vampires was that those vampires advanced by relying on the essence of vampire blood, and the ring on his hand with the "binding curse" had part of the extraordinary characteristics of the "Crimson Scholar", which could very likely arouse the hostility of vampires.
Then, while organizing the documents, she looked at Kurt and said:
"Of course, the Holy Church had already thought of this, which is why they sent me. I will go and find the local vampires. They have always maintained a relationship with the Church, so they shouldn't make things difficult for you after informing them."
Looking for vampires? "Teacher, there are three at No. 48, River Bend Avenue, South Bridge District… but you might only see one in a few weeks," Kurt thought with amusement, but still spoke with concern.
"Doesn't this make them realize I have the extraordinary trait of Sequence Five?"
Melanie gave her a relieved look and said:
"I'll only talk to those old fogies. They know what to do. If vampires were all brainless idiots, they would have been wiped out long ago..."
Kurt sensed once again that Melanie seemed indifferent, even somewhat disdainful, of the title "vampire." He simply nodded, avoiding revealing the White family's identity, and said:
"Teacher, will you be living in the church from now on?"
Melanie shook her head in disdain and said:
"This place is too cramped and too dark. I need to rent a spacious and bright house, the kind where sunlight can stream in."
"Kurt, do you have any recommendations?"
Kurt nodded subconsciously, then suddenly realized something was wrong and silently cried out: "Hey! Aren't you a vampire, a noble bloodline? Why did you choose a room with sunlight?"
A bat developed claustrophobia… He pulled himself together. Kurt didn't ask about it, as it involved the privacy of a 120-year-old girl. Although he didn't want Melanie to live too close to him, he still spoke honestly:
"I can show you around the West End or Queens; I live nearby."
Melanie beckoned Walker, who had been standing not far away, to fly onto her shoulder. She pulled out a vial of potion from somewhere and fed it to Walker. Then Walker gradually disappeared. She straightened her simple baseball cap and said:
"No need, I'll go by myself. I'll probably be staying in Backlund for a long time, so I plan to open a detective agency later."
"Alright, let's continue at this time tomorrow. I have a lot of things to do and can't stay in this church all day. Goodbye."
Curt nodded, watched Melanie leave, and then he also left the church and returned home.
It was already 2 p.m. when Kurt got home. He went back to his bedroom and, after several days of seed research, he successfully grew a peculiar sunflower.
Different colors and patterns will grow on the flowers, which is currently uncontrollable...
It can only be said that Frank was too much of a genius. Although he was not a true "biologist," it still feels like biological research requires a lot of talent and... courage.
