Chapter 8 Rogue Knight

Chapter 8 Rogue Knight

As you continue north, the original broad-leaved forests around the road are gradually replaced by spruce and pine trees.

The temperature also changed from the sweltering heat of Jianling to a cool one.

"The next stop is Pinecone Village, located at the entrance of the Frostwind Corridor, and is our last stop before entering the Duchy of Northern Frost."

As he led his troops forward, Rhodes opened the map to determine their location. "After resting and replenishing supplies there, we should try to enter the duchy before nightfall."

Because of the time spent suppressing bandits and training along the way, the time wasted was much longer than Rhodes had calculated.

Originally planned to leave Golden Sword Territory within ten days, fifteen days had actually passed since they reached Pinecone Village on the border.

But the time spent is not important; the key is the effect after the time is spent.

Looking at the soldiers behind him, Rod had been transformed by numerous bloody battles and military drills. They walked with their heads held high and chests out, displaying a more elite appearance.

At this training efficiency, by the time they reach the North, this team will be capable of standing alone and dealing with the barbarian threat.

The wisps of smoke rising in the distance provided them with clear guidance as the group approached the village.

But Noah and Holmes, who were walking ahead, quickly realized something was wrong, and their expressions turned grim.

The dirt road leading into the village was covered with many dark red stains, which were blood that had not yet congealed.

Numerous arrows and wooden spears were embedded in the mud and wooden walls, and shattered pieces of fence wood were scattered all over the ground.

A conflict had recently broken out here, and judging from the scattered weapons, it was not small in scale.

"Sir, there's trouble ahead!"

The two quickly approached Rhodes, keeping watch over their surroundings.

Twelve knights were arranged in a fan shape to protect them.

"We'll know once we go in and take a look; they haven't gone far." Rhodes rode his horse into the village, continuing along the main road inwards.

The houses on the outskirts were quiet, and looking through the smashed doors, the houses were empty.

Following the direction from which the smoke rose, Rhodes and the others arrived at the open space in the center of the village, behind which was the local lord's small castle.

This open space was originally the place where the lord would gather the villagers to discuss matters.

But at this moment, it was occupied by a group of uninvited guests.

The villagers are now gathered here, squatting fearfully in the corner.

Many villagers set up hanging stoves to cook food, and cautiously carried large pieces of cooked meat to the center of the open space.

There, a group of nearly a hundred armed men, each equipped with different weapons, were entrenched.

Rhodes glanced at it and saw that the armor ranged from leather to chainmail, and the weapons were also inconsistent, including swords, clubs, and other weapons.

They didn't look like an army; they were more like a hastily assembled group of mercenaries or thieves.

The approaching footsteps of Rhodes and his group quickly attracted the attention of those present.

Upon seeing this fully armed force, the villagers on the road ahead were even more frightened and quickly made way for them.

He stopped in his tracks, and Rod's gaze fell on the core of the group.

He was the only man wearing plate armor, sitting lazily on the ground, constantly chugging alcohol.

The most eye-catching thing was a giant white wolf, more than three meters long, lying behind him.

The protruding jaws kept clenching something, making a terrifying chewing sound.

"Look, the real knights have arrived!" the man said, laughing as he looked at them. "It's a pity our Baron can't come out to greet them; I feel sorry for him."

His words caused the surrounding thieves to look up and burst into laughter as if they had heard a joke.

Rod looked up following their gaze and saw a corpse hanging on the wooden frame above, still dripping blood.

Judging from his aristocratic attire, he is most likely the local lord or baron.

It seems the baron failed to defend his territory, and the village was breached by this gang of thieves.

"Sir, that's 'Rogue Knight' Peggy. We'd better not get into a fight with him." Holmes came to Rhodes' side and warned him in a low voice, his tone tense.

During the bandit suppression along the way, Rhodes also noticed many high-level arrest warrants issued by nobles.

Those who can be on the wanted list and still live a carefree life outside are all strong knights, and the "rogue knight" Peggy in front of us is one of them.

Originally a minor nobleman in the north of the kingdom, he later killed his lord, plundered his wealth, and fled to become a wandering knight.

His most striking feature is the giant white wolf he has raised since he was a cub, which he always carries with him.

An Iceblade Fang Wolf, a first-tier demonic wolf evolved from an ordinary winter wolf.

Just as humans can continuously eat and train to become knights, Rhodes knew that other creatures could also accumulate magic power to step into the first tier of transcendent beings.

This process is somewhat similar to bioaccumulation; the higher the ecological niche of an organism, the greater the possibility of accumulating magical energy, and thus the easier it is to evolve.

"Great, we can definitely get along, right? Want to order some together?"

Peggy stared at the intruding army before her, suppressing the greed in her eyes.

He waved his hand, and his men quickly stepped back, making room for him in the open space.

Holmes breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this. They were at a disadvantage in terms of both the number of knights and the size of their team, so it would be best if they could avoid conflict.

"Was that done by your men?" Rod asked without moving.

Peggy followed his gaze and, upon seeing the baron's corpse above, nonchalantly shrugged.

"Don't misunderstand. Our Baron Morton not only imposes heavy taxes year after year, but also smuggles grain to the barbarians in the north. The villagers here have long been dissatisfied with him. I am merely executing this traitor on behalf of the king."

"They should thank me; you can ask the villagers here if you don't believe me."

Among the villagers in the corner, the village chief, a middle-aged man who used to manage the village for the baron, walked out shakily.

Under Peggy's cold gaze, the village chief nodded repeatedly, gritting his teeth as he denounced the baron's atrocities.

He was interrupted by a familiar woman's scream.

"Lily!"

The village chief immediately stopped and looked in panic toward the source of the sound—it was his daughter's voice!

At that moment, his daughter Lily, who should have been hiding at home, was roughly dragged out of the house.

As the thief dragged her toward an open space, he grinned and tore off her clothes amidst the girl's helpless screams, exposing most of her skin.

Just as he was tugging at his belt, an arrow pierced his throat.

"This is not quite what you said." Rhodes put down his bow and raised his hand.

The knights and squires behind him drew their swords in unison.

The village chief hurriedly ran towards his daughter, while in the open space, "Rogue Rider" Peggy's face turned fierce.

This arrow broke the stalemate.

The boiling furnace was kicked over, and the thieves, brandishing their long knives, charged forward with shouts and claws, colliding with the soldiers who came towards them.

Roars, curses, the clanging of weapons, the dull thud of shields, all ignited the battlefield along with splattered blood and torn limbs!

The clash of cold weapons is primitive and brutal, yet it carries an indescribable bloody and infectious power.

Rhodes' attention wasn't on that; his knights would command the shield and spear formation for him, so he didn't need to worry about it.

The biggest threat is not these insignificant thieves.

At the moment the battle broke out, Knight Holmes tensed up, his eyes fixed on Peggy and the Iceblade Wolf behind him.

Just as he was estimating how long he could hold off the two knight-level combatants on his own,

He suddenly noticed something was wrong; a figure flashed past him.

To the horror of Sir Holmes, the delicate son of the duke beside him charged ahead!
